rebuilding or still contending?

With the release of brian westbrook which necessary but sad im wondering are we rebuilding or are we still trying to contend?

Star-divide

our organization is always in limbo with releasing older players but now it seems we are getting rid of the core of the team a couple years removed. don't get me wrong i would love to have young players and always contending but are we ever just gonna go all our for a couple of years to try and win the big one.

The way i see it if the organization seriously goes after peppers or kampman they are showing us they want to contend. If we keep mcnabb we want to contend even if it hampers kolb's development. If we bust out the big bucks for free agents and draft picks we are looking to contend. but......

i think if the organization does not go after a big name DE/LB/S and just settles on a draft pick we are looking to rebuild. if they trade mcnabb and let kolb become starting QB they are rebuilding. don't get me wrong i think kolb will be very good but he will take a couple years to fully learn the system mcnabb breathes the system. if the FO doesn't bust out the big bucks for free agents and just trades down and get some crappy 2nd non contribute picks i will believe that we are rebuilding.

that is the weird thing about our organization, we have some amazing young players and are poised for a major run in a couple years. our receivers are excellent and very young. mccoy will be a very good back. celek is finally the catching threat we need.

so that is why i ask the question do pull it all together and have the youth help as we go for the big one but then rebuild later. OR do we do a mini blowup and let these young players learn the offense be good and not great then in a couple years become an excellent team with a good chance to win a superbowl?

I Agree

The eagles been doing it right. It seems ever year we just need something to get over the hump. I say we retool . see how things go. I do think we need some leadership on the team though.

We're being the Eagles

We ditch aging players a year or two before they fall of a cliff in production usually. A complement to Westbrook might be the Eagles waited until he stopped being productive before releasing him.

I do expect a step back next season if its Kolb at the helm, but probably only 1 season.

I don't

expect a step back if Kolb is at the helm. My expectations would be completely open to anything happening.

We are always doing both. Re-tooling and going for a SB. Championships can’t be bought in FB. See redskins….wild-eagle is right. We were a healthy team away from doing big things last year. We have been relevant almost every year this decade. Thats all a FO can do. They can only keep you competitive and hope things align. Injuries/match-ups/weather(fog bowl) all play a part in putting it all together.

I don't think

We’ve ever been really a rebuilding team. At least not since McNabb’s first couple years. The FO has had the belief that there they don’t believe in " rebuilding" (at least that’s what they have said since Andy has been here).

We realease an oft-injured player that barely saw the field last year and that means we’re rebuilding? And if we don’t play Russian roulette with peppers or try to sign a 30 end off acl surgery we’re not trying?

I remember when posts here were sensible…

it's not rebuilding, it's retooling

We’re not getting rid of our players and THEN finding young replacements (excepting Dawk’s case). We’ve got replacements lined up; it has only been a matter of when we feel comfortable with getting rid of our players.

maybe that terminology is screwy, but you get the idea; it’s not straight up “blowing up” the team, it’s a changing of the guard
