The two teams being mentioned in the McNabb sweepstakes are the Cardinals and the Vikings. But why would the Eagles make either of those trades? With a star veteran quarterback, the Cardinals and the Vikings are both serious contenders in the N.F.C. Without one, they may be wild-card teams at best. Two years ago, the Packers wouldn’t ship Brett Favre to an N.F.C. team because they didn’t want him blocking their Super Bowl path. Why would Philly’s situation be any different?

Carolina defensive end Julius Peppers will be one of the biggest names available when free agency begins on March 5. He'll have plenty of suitors, and will likely land a hefty contract. whenever i see quotes like this, the devil’s advocate in me says that if the eagles are so confident in kolb, then they wouldn’t be worried about either of these two teams if mcnabb is their qb. if kolb trully is the heir aparent and a better option, then we shouldn’t be worried about any other team… right?

on the other side, if a mcnabb trade isn’t made, then that tells kolb that (even after 3 years) he’s not ready yet. then what? do they extend him, extend mcnabb, or draft a qb? if something is going to happen, it’s got to be this offseason.

It's pretty clear...

…that the Eagles aren’t confident in Kolb at all. If the three stooges (Lurie, Banner and Reid) really believe that they drafted a quality quarterback who is ready to play, this McNabb trade would have been done by now. That’s why what we’re going to see instead is them trading Kolb and reupping Donovan.

...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.

You’d have to be an idiot to say anything is “clear” at this point.

Nothing is clear.

Sure it's clear...

…clear as mud.

It’s going to be an exciting, interesting, action-packed and surprising off-season for everyone. All the prognosticators will be humbled. Just like last year – just like EVERY year.

JasonB is spot on.

Exactly

Honestly, it would not scare me one bit to play a McNabb team. His days of eluding 5 defenders and throwing for a 40 yard gain or running 15 yards for a first down are coming to a close. McNabb sitting back in the pocket = NOT SCARED at all.

Of course they would be worried

Even if Kevin Kolb is the next coming of Tom Brady, management would have to be stupid to trade McNabb to a competing team in the conference.

Maclin seems like a great kid

Him getting better will be huge for making a SB run next year. Imagine if Maclin got better and then having Celek and Jackson on top of that? We really do have some great young talent.

+1

Completely was going to say the same thing after reading the interview. Doesnt sound like some of the snot-nose rookies that come into the league expecting everything handed to them cough cough Crabtree cough – Kid definitely seems like he has a good head on his shoulders and is willing to learn and be the kind of player it takes.

Yup, looks like we have a player in #18. On a side note, I love how the interviewer thinks Nick Cole is a linebacker.

Bobby April's impact

Given that Akers will be the K again next year and I have a feeling that Rocca will be back given the lack of great alternatives on the FA market, I wonder how much impact April can really have. Really limited to coverage units and KR. Wonder if we will be able to see much of a difference in training camp or it will be more subtle.

by MG77 on Feb 22, 2010 2:39 PM EST reply actions

Even an extra 5-10 yards on KR, and limiting the other team by 5-10 yards on KR/PR, can make a huge difference in results of games, enough to swing a game or two a year your way.
