Eagles reportedly hire Dick Jauron as secondary coach
Last month, Eagles special defensive assistant and defacto defensive backs coach Brian Stewart left to become the defensive coordinator at the University of Houston. His departure left a hole in the Eagles defensive staff and that vacancy will be filled by former Bill's head coach Dick Jauron.
Jauron was fired this year midway through his fourth season as coach of the Buffalo Bills. He was also head coach of the Bears for five years as well as an interim coach with the Lions. Jauron started his NFC coaching career as a defensive backs coach in Buffalo before holding the same position in(and here comes the connection) Green Bay from 1986 to 1994. Andy Reid joined the Packers' staff in 1992.
By hiring Jauron, Andy not only brings in a friend, and a guy who has been a very good defensive coach, but also a guy with real experience to help out Sean McDermott. It certainly seems to be a strong hire.

demps, jones....macho
if he makes them that much better i’ll be convinced. if not, get him the guys that fit his system…idk im rambling….. god we need Dawkins back
In 20 We Trust
No
Look having Dawkins back would not substantially improve the FS position this point or the defense. Eagles do need to upgrade here but Dawkins isn’t the answer.
i was being fecetious
and Dawkins got another pro bowl nod this season….i think any probowl safety is an upgrade from where we were

Probowl start is not indicative of anything. He had a good season but he broke down near the end.

Dude Dawk could play one game and get a pro bowl nod it's name recognition.

Look Stewart didn’t leave to be the Univ. of Houston coach as much he was supposedly told by the Eagles that he was going to be pushed out.
Even the Eagles had 2 Pro-Bowl players there this season, its performance as a whole pretty mediocre at times this year and the Eagles gave up the most passing TD they had this year/big passing plays in quite a while.
Given that the Eagles are likely to have at least one higher draft pick in their secondary next year (either CB or FS), this wasn’t a bad move.
After 34 players opted not to play in the Pro Bowl, I think almost all teams had 2 defensive "Pro Bowlers"
Except,k of course for the Lions
Sometimes it's just fun to take the family for a spin around the lake in the old boat. Even if it's not your family or your boat, and they're screaming for you to stop.

I really like this move
At least we’re showing that we’re definitely focused on fixing that shitty D
Excellent
Eagles are raiding the Buffalo staff!
Now if only we can con them into giving up a 2nd round pick for Michael Vick, and our pillaging fo the Buffalo Bills will be complete.
How good have the secondaries coached by Jauron been?
OK, the Bills did pick off Mark Sanchez 5 times under Jauron, but other than that?
i like
dick…
"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."
This move seems like it will pay off in the long run.
Jauron is experienced, well-taught, and a solid defensive-minded leader.

You know they never write...
“Coach Smith was fired half-way through his three year contact for being an utter failure, plus he drinks too much and beats his wife. Secondary players hate him because he treats them like ballerinas and calls them girls names during practice.”
Not that Jauron is any of those things and the only coach that I have questions about on the team is Morningthing, and that is specific to his in-game play calling. That being said, we’ll see how Jauron fits in with the Eagles, McDermontt and the players as the 2010 season progresses. I hope it turns out good.

I disagree. Here’s an example…
Former Detroit Lions defensive line coach Joe Cullen flew into Jacksonville on Wednesday to interview for a position with the Jaguars. According to a team source, Cullen is expected to be hired, possibly as early as Thursday. But it’s unclear what responsibilities Cullen will hold, because current Jaguars defensive line coach Ted Monachino remains on the staff.
The expected hiring will come with widespread scrutiny. Cullen was arrested twice in seven days in 2006, which resulted in a $20,000 fine and suspension by the Lions and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for what he called "conduct detrimental to the league."
Before making the decision to bring in Cullen, Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver and the staff conducted an extensive review of Cullen, which included a consultation with Goodell, who seemed to endorse the potential hire.
Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio didn’t immediately respond to text messages seeking comment.
A 20-year coaching veteran, Cullen last worked in the NFL in 2008, his last season with the Detroit Lions. Cullen spent three seasons with the Lions, and Detroit ranked among the top 10 in the NFL in sacks in 2007 and 2008. Cullen was the defensive line coach at Idaho State University in 2009.
Cullen was first arrested in August 2006, a night before a Lions preseason game at Oakland, when a worker at a fast-food restaurant’s drive-through window saw the coach naked behind the wheel of an SUV and called police. The Lions said alcohol wasn’t involved in the incident. Seven days later, authorities arrested and charged Cullen with drunk driving the night after Detroit’s preseason finale. According to reports, authorities were called when someone saw Cullen speeding down a street without his headlights on.
Once authorities pulled over Cullen’s car, police tested his blood-alcohol level at 0.12, which was over the legal limit.
Wow. Great.
Bye Dawk just whack-a-moled me!
:)
I’m good with this Jauron was hired for two head coaching jobs, while they didn’t pan out it does mean he knows what he’s doing. Some guys can’t put it all together and need to stick to their specialties.
I really think this is why JJ stayed at D coordinator and why Tom Moore has always been an O coordinator. If you think that those dudes weren’t offered multiple head coaching jobs you are idiotic but yet they never took one.
I’m down.
