Sign this kid up!
It would be funny to see this kid interview Andy to see if he would give the same usual scripted, non-revealing answers.
“So, you’re kind of a big guy. Do you beat your players to the buffet table or let them go first?”
“you know, I don’t like to get into that sort of thing. As the coach, its on me to put my players in the best position to succeed. It falls on me. I have to do a better job of making sure my guys are in a position to be successful and I think thats something that all the coaches have to look at.”
Let the beasting begin.

So Where's the Joke?
I have been a 5 defender for a long time. To my surprise, an interview by a 10(?) year old kid may be what changes my view. If the first thing that comes to 5’s mind about the huddle, in an unscripted moment, is cracking jokes – then I think his detractors may be right that he never will bring home a Lombardi. Nothing to do with talent – but I have yet to see a leader that can get his teammates to play above their ability, to regain relentless focus when challenged, distracted or in extreme pain, by telling jokes. Maybe thats why he played so much better the week after being benched in 2008 – because for once it was no longer a joke as to whether or not he would be on the team at the end of the year. Maybe thats why Garcia, with a fraction of the physical ability, had such an impact in 2007 – nobody doubted how much he wanted it, nor that he was willing to lead from the front and if necessary get killed trying (like Fauvre this year). For once lets hope that Reid focuses as much on leadership as he does on performance in practice, but since that appears to be a weak spot for him too, I am suddenly alot less excited about the 2010 season…
Dude, he was kidding
Overreacting much? I know that you know he was joking but still.

I hope Im overreacting
But imagining 5 cracking a joke in the huddle after airballing DeSean or dirtballing Celek on a crossing route really got me wound up. If it were true, I hope we would cut bait and move on. Realistically, I can’t believe that is his style, and I hope he was just trying to lighten the kid up – but it has definitely planted a seed of doubt with me, where there wasn’t any before.

the man was doing an interview with a kid, half of it was out of jest. ‘i need to go to the bathroom right now!’ don’t take it seriously.

Bullshit
There is plenty of time… thats what you do. Keep things on an even keel, keep people from getting too caught up, keep guys loose.
RIP JJ
dude chill
you always hear about the story of montana telling the 49ers in the huddle “hey look, its john candy” right before he drove them 86 yards to beat the Bengals in the super bowl…and if my memory serves me right, he was viewed as a pretty good quarterback.
Those situations are incredibly tense. If you go into a situation like that and appear to reflect that tension you make it worse. Sometimes when people are tense they overdo things, think to much about making a catch instead of reacting and doing it. Sometimes you need to break that tension. Do you know who was ultra serious and intense as a QB? Jeff George. Know what he’s doing now? Neither do I.
