Texans fan here, doing a background check on Quintin Demps
Recently the Texans had another DE go on the IR & we signed Quintin Demps to add some depth to our soon to be record breaking 'Ole efense (no D here). Since he played for the Eagles, I'm looking for some information on Demps on his possible contributions to the Texans. How good was he as a FS? Is he any better a KR/PR than we have now? Can he possibly do well enough to get Eugene Wilson benched? Does he give us any hope at all?

Well...
We all thought he would take over the starting FS spot, and that’s one of the reasons we didn’t re sign dawk… He basically sucked balls after that tho… Maybe you guys can do something good with him, since it looks like if he really put in work he cud be a pretty good safety, but I’m not too sure… He had a few deceent returns, took one to the house against new england his rookie year in pre season

Demps is a bit of an unfortunate story. He has all sorts of talent, but he’s immature. He has a history of committing dumb personal fouls when he’s frustrated (see the NFC Championship game a few years ago when he decked Kurt Warner WAAAAY after Warner threw the ball).
In 2009, he was the projected starting FS coming out of camp, and he felt that the Eagles would just hand him that job. They didn’t. Instead they trusted a rookie corner (Macho Harris) that had never played safety in his life over him. Not good. I thought he actually had a decent camp this year, but it wasn’t enough.
He’s has good speed, good ball skills, and can return kicks. But he’s dumb. Buyer beware.
I mean no offense whatsoever, but with the Texans secondary, he really can’t be any worse than what’s already in place there.
This is why I hate this moron
(see the NFC Championship game a few years ago when he decked Kurt Warner WAAAAY after Warner threw the ball).
There is no point in doing this. The NFL doesn’t need shit like this from a nobody in the league. If Demps did that this year he would be out of 100k at least. Seriously, if you are gonna hit someone in an attempt to injure them at least do it to someone deserving, like Roethlisberger, not freaking Kurt Warner.

So what your saying is he's no threat to the Texans chances of having the worst defense ever?

I think there may be a slight chance that he may improve your defence
for at least 1 game, sorry?
grew up in Pa. lived there for 40 years but my job has taken me deep into the swamps of louisiana where all you here is "who dat" who dat" and on clear nights when the wind is gently blowing from the west you can hear the wimpers and sobs of jerry and his herd of cowgirls.

What is the "defense" thing that you speak of?
I know what an offense is, but we have this thing called the ‘Ole efense, not sure what their purpose is, but it looks like they aren’t doing much of anything other than letting guys go by

do you guys change the channel when your on d“ole” fence, and just watch the offense play. You know, to keep your sanity as a fan?
No, why would we? We're witnessing history happen
Besides, most of us are too drunk to remember it, but just in case we do, we just chug some Clorox & forget it ever happened

I agree with the sentiment that he has some talent, but is very immature and not the smartest guy…

Demps played and talked his way into the doghouse here in Phily. He has all the tools to be a good player. Plenty of speed and has good hips for a safety. I personally think he needed time more than anything. He also had problems staying healthy,so it was a combination of things that worked against him here. I think he will be a better player with your team and will even make your team next year. He may even end up starting for the Texans considering how poor the Texans safety play is right now. He is a good returner and has above average speed when healthy.

Well he is trying to cover Fitz there
which is like trying to cover a slightly slower but slightly taller Andre Johnson

Yes but Demps on the other hand couldn't cover Max Hall..

No, you had it right the first time. If Max Hall was a WR, Demps would have a hard time covering him.

How about he'd have trouble covering King Dunlap running a go route after pretty much drawing a diagram and telling
him when the ball will be thrown and where…

It looks like demps and KJ will get along just fine
It was a great block by p. Manning on that play too. Not often that a QB gets to mix it up with a Safety.

Well, he's pretty good add for depth
..
As long as he is 5th on the depth chart
5th what Safety?? Hell no.. Good depth if he's the 5th returner in line

They have told you everything
you need to know about him but I will break it down once again
He had the front line to the starting FS job but lost it to a rookie CB who never played safety before and is also no longer with our team because of his suckiness. That sums it up.

KR/PR...
I was one of the few fans of Demps and was kinda pissed when we cut him. At the S position,he hits HARD. But his lack of speed is wut got him cut. Hes too slow to return kicks of any kind. I guess u guys can give him a shot tho. It wouldnt hurt.

I dont understand...
His only “hard” hit was on Kurt Warner in a move that probably cost us the NFC Championship game.
and his speed is pretty good he ran a 4.38 which for a safety is fast..
and according to his scouting report his tackling skills are average which they also explain more as he’s a “drag down tackler”

"Straight line speed is elite"
What’s ure point? Hw many pr/kr are due to straight line speed? Cuts, jukes, and following blocks are keys to returns.

Hester is a guy who's straight line speed gets him TD's,
Desean Jackson after he jukes and gets open runs in a straight line.. Maclin when he’s open, McCoy when he’s open, many many players use straight line speed to get the job done, also you said his “lack of speed is what got him cut” his 40 time refutes that statement.. Demps sucks, he cant hit but the man is fast.

Big whiff on lack of speed
He was fast enough that some teams considered him a corner prospect. His speed was what got him on the field as a rookie and second-year guy.

I must of missed all his speed
Cuz i dnt remember him being quick at all. Why did we cut him if he’s so quick? Cuz we sure could use that speed at safety now.
