Theismann and Schaub, spread the news

In one simple short phrase,

I HATE JOE THEISMANN. When he left broadcasting on the major networks a few years ago, I bought a cake, opened a bottle of champagne and continued to celebrate. He is, quite possibly, the worst sports commentator and all around idiot that I have ever had the non-pleasure of listening to. He always makes generalities, huge exagerrations and honestly has no idea what he is talking about. Case in point:

Late in the 3rd quarter, Kevin Walter makes a 2nd down reception 4 yards shy of the first down marker.

Theismann: "Kevin Walter is their third down reciever. He comes up with big recepetions on third down. Look for him to make a contribution on this 3rd down." (or something to that affect)

As he is saying this, lol, no lie, Walter is jogging to the sideline. Joe is saying this as the camera is focused on him standing there ON THE SIDELINE.

Well done Joe. Well done.

This was just the dumbest of all his comments. He made plenty last night. Sorry, I just wanted to get that off my chest. Obviously sleeping it off didn't help.

Secondly,

Now I am not a huge Matt Schaub fan by any means. I have watched him sparingly ever since he became a starting QB. I can clearly see that he is a serivicable starting qb and has a great upside. He did lead the league in passing yards last year so he has some stats to back it up. But, in the times I have watched him, HE DOESN"T SEEM TO HAVE ARM STRENGTH. Now last night may have been just a bad game, but he still was successful spreading the football around. Two plays in particular. The play when Dimitridiot Patterson jumps an awful slow developing route from Andre Johnson, who ran an out and up, and had Patterson beat down the sideline for a sure TD. Schaub not only underthrew it, watch it again, he absurdly underthrew it. Should have been an easy touchdown. My point is, with a guy like Johnson, how better off would he be with the Vicks, McNabb's, Bradys of the world tossing him the long ball? Don't answer that, too easy.

The second play where Schaub showed his arm strength. Rolling left on 3rd and 3, albeit he was throwing on the run to his left, he underthrew his reciever who was running a curl out. The reciever (forget who it was, probably Walter, lol) was only ten yard down the field. He underthrew him by 3 yards. I literally laughed out loud.

Oh, and how do you throw a pick on a screen, LOLOLOL.

Anyway, my question is, for those of you who know and have seen him play, is Schaub really that good?

Actually, what he said was worse. He said “Kevin Walter is a touchdown guy. He has 4 of them on the season.”

Matt Millen

On comparing the Redskins offense to the Houston Texans, he said that they ran similar schemes except the Texans offense is “just a little bit better, because, well they’re just better.”

Also, on Avant’s TD drop, he kept calling him Maclin WHILE talking about Avant’s drop in the endzone against the giants.

After what he did in Detroit, HOW is that man allowed to be anywhere NEAR the NFL?

Honestly

That was the worst announcing team I’ve ever heard. I had to turn on 610AM and mute the TV. So painful to listen.

I laghed out loud when he made the Redskins comment

a 10 year old could contribute more to the broadcast than those 2 morons

The whole damn crew

announcing were awful. I dont think for the life of them they could call any of our players or Houstons by their correct names. Brent "A"Celek or Adrian Foster. Goddamn idiots.

On his Avant/Maclin screw-up..

Remember what he was saying right before he mixed up their names? He was going ape shit about the play and how great of a defensive play it was. He said:

“This is what it’s all about. I LOVE seeing great defense like this, that defensive back did a phenomenal job!” Slobber, slobber, slobber, gulp, gulp, gulp."

(Then his arch-nemesis, the replay, aired and it showed that the defensive back whiffed and the ball hit Avant right in the chest and then he dropped it)

Thats when he called him Maclin. After the awkward pause of course. He said something like: “Oh. Apparently that pass hit Jeremy Maclin in the face”

Wrong receiver, wrong body part, and Matt Millen – you are a horse’s ass.

No, the worst one was: “Not only was Schaub injured on the play, but because they had to send the trainers onto the field, they lost a timeout, their last one of the half.”

He was legitimately concerned about the loss of the timeout… WITH TWO SECONDS left in the half! WHAT?

i started yelling at the tv when he made the kevin walter comment. he said something about how walter is a good possession wr for third down conversions or 2nd and long conversions. it was such a broad, generic bit of commentary.

by Bleediots on Dec 3, 2010 12:26 PM EST reply actions

Theismann was probably drunk.

That is no excuse. Schaub is a decent QB if he has time to make his reads or if Johnson is wide open.

I hope I am wrong, but Kolb is a four-letter word.

As he is saying this, lol, no lie, Walter is jogging to the sideline. Joe is saying this as the camera is focused on him standing there ON THE SIDELINE.

As Walter was jogging towards the sideline, Joe also said “I expect him to be back out on 3rd down,” or something like that. I don’t know if he’s just not paying attention, or what.

The announcers were very poor.

by 999 on Dec 3, 2010 2:21 PM EST reply actions

I liked this one...

Theisman: “The missed call on Schaub’s blow to the head was a horrible miss by the refs, The illegal hit should’ve been called”. Millen: “That wasn’t a penalty”. Theisman: “You’re a defensive player, you don’t intellect that quarterbacks have, It was an illegal hit”. Millen: “I’m about to put a hit on another quarterback right now”.

You know what would be awesome

having Lawrence Taylor in that booth telling Theismann “if you keep it up, I’ll break your leg again.”

I'd think that the fact that Matt Millen advocates Helmet to Helmet hits should be

placed in a public service announcement for young football players – it could feature shots of Matt Millen as a player interspersed with shots of Millen today speaking – the tag line “don’t hit people with your head or you might end up like Matt Millen”

by ZacharyD on Dec 6, 2010 4:11 PM EST up reply actions

better tagline?

“MATT MILLEN USED TO TACKLE PEOPLE WITH HIS HELMET – DO YOU WANT TO RISK IT?”

In regards to Schaub underthrowing on that curl route...

Vick made some underthrows as well. One in particular was in the endzone intended for Maclin. Both QB’s had trouble throwing the ball at times last night. Maybe it was the cold weather?

morons!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

theisman… millan… who else??? i forgot…i turned off the sound so i could enjoy the game…where do they get these fools? It’s a disgrace….the saddleback junior college student announcers are far better… i just thouhgt i’d give the kids a plug…

Anyone notice

how many names they messed up? Who are Mike Peterson and Houston Justice? I also like how every good play is due to “Great awareness”. The best analysis they can give is that a guy knew what he was doing. They suck.

Cowboys suck.

Matt Schaub

When he was at UVA, he ran the WCO pretty well. He was ready for a Pro Style offense when he first entered the league. Schaub and Kolb have one thing in common: they both threw 300 games early in their careers. I recall Schaub throwing a 300 yd game against the Patriots when Vick was injured in 2005 (maybe 2006).

We Philly fans tend to micromanage QB’s performances. QB make bad throws during games. Even Brees, Brady, and Peyton over/under throw WR. In saying that, I don’t think Schaub’s missteps on Thursday are indicative of his overall abilities.

This year his numbers are down because of the stark emergence of Arian Foster. Also not have Owen Daniels and the transition to a new OC may explain why his numbers are down. Still, I like Schaub. He’s one of those guys who may not be in the upper tier of elite QB, but he’s definitely a guy who you can build your team around. The Texans just have too many holes on defense (duh) to do anything this year.

If/when they making a coaching change, I think you’ll see Schaub and the Texans excel next year. And no, I’m not a “closet” Texans fan, I just watch way too much football.

we have the internet. there is nothing they know that we dont.

No Commentators are alright

when they’re good… Gruden is fantastic, Jaws is probably my favorite(no eagles biasedness really, just makes smart comments) the other dude on MNF is pretty good.

Aside from those three there are a few good ones… But now Theisman and the other two for thursday night football were awful… Millen doesnt need to be anywhere near professional sports.

thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro

"I'm trading Kolb to Buffalo for Cribbs"- the brilliant Trade Kolb

You want to experience real pain

try watching one of the Deadskins preseason broadcasts with Theisman.

You combine all the mistakes, stupid statements, general idocracy, and having no idea what is going on that you know and hate from his NFL Network broadcasts with blatant homerism – and of course, its pre-season!
