some things they left out...
Its not JUST about the mistakes the Giants made. No one wants to mention what the Eagles did to make this happen.
1) from what i have read, they were bringing pressure to block all of the punts up to that point. considering the circumstances, its a safe bet that we are going to sell out to block this one too. based on that, it makes sense that Dodge would rush to kick it. He is expecting to be surrounded very quickly. Add in the high snap and it just makes sense that he gets it away as fast as possible. just get it down field and let your team handle it. its better than it being blocked (although in hindsight….)
Instead, we dialed up our coverage to maximize the return. The giants expect max pressure, but we do the opposite, leaving us in better position to block them on the return.
2) sure, the giants were out of their lanes, but don’t ignore the monster block that took out 3 giants players, i think by Omar Gaither.
3) Jackson’s first few steps after recovering the ball are backwards. This also seems to help bunch up the defenders, but also create the return lane he needed. It made the first wave of defenders take steps upfield, rather than to close in and block off the lane.
4) i know it was mentioned, but desean is fast. really, really fast. i would have liked them to see how the one giants defender who was 10-15 yards back, at the back of the line on the left hand side, reacted to the return. My guess is that in the time that Jackson changed from backpedaling to blazing fast full speed straight ahead this defender took one or two steps and was left flatfooted. That just makes it easier to side step him on the way to the TD.
i dunno…looks like a block to the side to me in the video above @ 1:04. not sure how the blocks from the sides are generally called…
i think the way the guy falls makes it look like it was a normal block, but its hard to get a good look at it.

I think
it was a block in the side, too, but it was close. One hand was near the numbers, the other was inside. That one block made him fall into two other guys, though. Now, those were blocks in the back, haha.
Doesn't matter..
…just like NBA games, refs generally swallow the whistle at the end of the game. Could you imagine the backlash if a ref were to have called a block in the back on this play?? No one wants that kind of heat.
Very funny, yet another take on the "greatest play in the history of the NFL"
"What a gorgeous dog. What do you feed him?"
Spoof

Sports Science really needs its own show

Wow
This is great, the most shocking part IMO is that in just 3 steps he was already past 7 defenders. Unbelievable
Enjoyed watching, but...
(not complaining, just suggesting) a tripod for the camera. I almost lost my lunch.

speaking of this
anyone see chris chase, from yahoo, coming up with another BS article about this play bc he’s still po’d his ginats lost
I've been waiting my whole life for an Eagles Championship
R2C2!
RIP JJ
I honestly have no idea how Yahoo keeps him as a writer.
"He wasn't an astronaut, he was a tv comedian! And he was just using space travel as a metaphor for beating his wife!"
Chris Chase is a butthead who should not be a sports blogger
And he writes for so many of their blogs too. I agree with you, he is a terrible blogger.
He almost got caught from behind on this play and could have had a penalty called on his team because he delayed scoring.
DeSean Jackson was nowhere close to being caught. The Giant who Chris Chase is referring to, D.J. Ware, looks closer on the live shot because of the lack of depth perception. But if you watch the replay from the skycam (1st one Fox shows), you can clearly see that Ware was nowhere close to catching Jackson from behind. Here’s a screen cap to illustrate this.

What made me laugh the most
Is that he thinks Jackson was showboating. God Chris Chase sucks major dick. All he does is write about non-stories about the Eagles.

Yeah he did,
but I believe 50G’s of force to the head can be lethal…
