Eagles' LeSean & DeSean Go Over 1,000 Yards

EAST RUTHERFORD NJ - DECEMBER 19: DeSean Jackson #10 of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrates his game winning touchdown with teammates Jeremy Maclin #18 and Brodrick Bunkley #97 against the New York Giants at New Meadowlands Stadium on December 19 2010 in East Rutherford New Jersey. The Eagles had a few milestones Sunday that were overshadowed by the ridiculousness of how the game played out. So I thought it would be worth giving these guys their due today.

First, Michael Vick set a career record for rushing TDs in a season. Pretty amazing to think that there are seasons where he ran more and started more games and still didn't have as many rushing TDs as he has this season.

LeSean McCoy went over 1,000 yards, he's the first Eagles back to do so since Brian Westbrook in 2007.

DeSean Jackson went over a thousand yards receiving for the second straight year. He's also got a pretty good shot at setting a career high for yardage. Last year he finished with 1,167. He has 1,024 with two games to play.

Jeremy Maclin caught his ninth and tenth TDs, which is the first time an Eagle has had double digit receiving TDs since Terrell Owens in 2004. His 10 TDs are also tied for the fourth most in team history. Maclin has 890 yards receiving and if he got to 1,000, it would be the first time in franchise history two Eagles WRs were over 1,000 yards in the same year. So far this season he's averaged 63.6 yards per game, so he's got a real shot at it.

Ironically, the closest the Eagles have ever gotten to having two 1,000 yard receivers was just last year when Jackson was over a thousand and Brent Celek had 971 yards.

If only the defense were so prolific…

Looks like another "stress on Defense" draft.

That’s OK

the brady vick stat comparison

should include the running stats. why is running not part of a qb rating? never understood this.

by andyfrombrooklyn on Dec 21, 2010 7:50 AM EST reply actions

It is not a qb rating, it is a passer rating

by captain nodar on Dec 21, 2010 8:11 AM EST up reply actions

but it is used as a qb rating.

i had never noticed that semantics difference. interesting. thank you.

Stats are comfort for the losers. I don’t care if Maclin has another catch all season if the Eagles keep winning.

It would be nice to see two thousand yard receivers, but it’s not something we should be upset about if it doesn’t happen.

Maclin

having the quietist great season in WR history. Seriously, the guy just hands the ball off to the official when he makes a TD, doesn’t complain about his contract, etc, etc, etc. Of course, he doesn’t have those unbelievable long TDs the way DJax does, but (before Sunday’s game) he’s the more valuable WR according to DVOA (not including the special teams or rushing, just catching the ball).

Although I just compared the two receivers, I don’t really mean to imply we must choose one and only one to support. We are lucky to have both, and I happen to think that as special as DJax is, Maclin is just as special, though different, to this offense.

Maclin was drafted in the 1st round, he doesn’t have a contract to complain about. Desean outperformed his 2nd round contract… hence the complaints.

by cin7 on Dec 21, 2010 9:55 AM EST up reply actions

Not Taking Anything Away From Maclin Buuuuuuut...

Could it be Maclin is doing so well mainly because DJax is drawling double coverage leaving Maclin in single coverage most of the time?

Actually you'd be surprised, teams will pick and choose who to double cover...

Deseans big play on the first play of the Cowboys game it was Maclin who the safety keyed on and went with allowing Desean to just slip by deep..

Both get doubled alot.

unrelated thought

can goodell intervene and block the shit division from a playoff berth. or at least relegate them to 6th seed. it is ugly. it is wrong. somebody is going to be penalized for being the three seed. somebody is going to be rewarded for being the five seed. somebody good is going to stay home. lets say the giants and saints get in, the packers stay home? and the shit division gets a berth? wrong, wrong, wrong.

by andyfrombrooklyn on Dec 21, 2010 9:00 AM EST reply actions

I think its good

Sucks for those other teams but if we get the chance to play the crap team, I wouldnt mind. Also it’d be nice if they had one lucky game and knocked a tough opponent out of the playoffs.

i fear the eagles getting screwed at the 3 seed playing the saints

and the giants getting rewarded as the 5 seed playing the shit team. i hope not but it could happen. right?
or maybe eagles giants round 3 as the saints get to play the shit team.

I think were going to get the 2 seed

It wont be easy since we have to win out but the vikings and cowboys are a lot easier than the bears Jets and Packers. I think the Vikings will be a blowout, the Jets will beat the bears, then it will come down to the last week with our own fate on the line. I wouldnt take the cowboys lightly though. Im sure it would make them happy to see us lose the 2 seed by their hands.

6 seed will be the Giants

How funny will it be to beat them again?

Man, if only celek could get his shit together. Although I can understand why he hasn’t been that great this year. Because our o line sucks it seems he’s used in max protect constantly. Another thing is that Vick is throwing to fast guys, so when he passes to celek, he always overthrows him cause he’s slow. I’m still waiting for the game where he gets a few TE screens. For such a good screen passing team, I’ve rarely seen TE screens in TGE Andy Reid era.

HIs shit is together.. Tightends block. If King Dunlap could block as well as Celek we wouldn’t have half the problems we did last sunday’s 1st half. As far Vick overthrowing him.. have you seen how slow Celek runs? You might as well have Herremens running that screen play if you want him to catch a screen. Vick will learn to hit him stride.. but I see no reason to put any blame on Celek for any of what you typed. His only fault is 1 or 2 drops this season which can be attributed to his lack of chances/rustyness.

8 drops. Tied for 5th in the league. 8 drops in only 68 targets. By far, the highest percentage in the league.

by Route36 on Dec 21, 2010 10:28 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, Celek is definitely off his game.

He might have had two HUGE obviously game changing drops, but he has had more 1 or 2 drops as you stated. I’ve been highly disappointed in him this season. Hopefully it has more to do with him blocking more?! Who knows, but I can’t say I’m impressed.

He has committed his fair of penalties too

To add the penalties on top of the drops is a killer.

"Maclin is underrated" is an understatement

Don’t quote me on this stat, but I read a blurb somewhere on Sunday that said:

“Jeremy Maclin is only one of three wide receivers to have 10 TDs in a season before their 22nd birthday. The other two are Randy Moss and Larry Fitzgerald.”

Not that is impressive company.

This is great..

BTW McCoy looks like he’s gonna stud it up for years to come…

BTW this running game we have is awesome, I think as a team we have 2,100 yards… That’s pretty amazing.

Yup

149.7 per game (4th in the league), so around 2100 (if it were 150.0 per game it would be exactly 2100).

613 from Vick, 1036 from Shady, probably around 150 from Jerome Harrison, maybe 150 from end-arounds, maybe 40-50 from Eldra Buckley. I’m wondering where the other 100 are coming from. Kolb+Chad Hall = 100 yds rushing?

by phi7 on Dec 21, 2010 1:11 PM EST up reply actions

Okay, found the numbers

Here: http://www.eaglescentral.com/2010/12/with-lesean-mccoy-michael-vick-the-philadelphia-eagles-have-the-greatest-single-season-rushing-offense-in-the-history-of-the-national-football-league.html/

Most of my estimates were right. Desean has ~100 by himself and Maclin 36 (like I thought), ~50 from Kolb, ~50 from Buckley.

I just completely forgot about Mike Bell, who has 28, making up the difference. (Kolb+Bell+Hall ~=100)

by phi7 on Dec 21, 2010 1:20 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah that's right.

I think it was said that the Giants considered that McCoy was by far the Eagles biggest weapon. I totally agree. He’s been great this year. When is the last time that anybody’s seen the Eagles run the ball late in the 4th quarter to maintain possession and win the game like they did in the Cowboys game. I was so glad to see that! Principally McCoy with some help from Michael.
