Improving a helmet won’t help if he has a problem in a players physiology, more specifically, his jaw joint. Athletes playing with a boxers “Glass Jaw”, have been found to be more prone to concussive “events”.
The problem is concussion from blows to the jaw go against all convention text book training neurologists have been taught in this country. Concussions from jaw related forces are real, yet the neurological community laughs when they see articles, like the ones below, relating jaw truama to concussion, Mark Kram did a nice one last year. Their doctrine tells them that the brain is like a jello mould, when forces shake it up, it smashes against the side of the skull and you have a resulting concussion. The jaw related concussion is different, the mechanism of injury is actually the end of the jawbone piercing the skullbase at the temporal bone. Exactly the area where Cantu has stated CTE is found, the medial temporal lobe. A coincidence, not really, although this has not been researched. Not at all. The NFL has had this info for years and has done nothing in the form of research. Helmets, as Cantu has stated, are designed to prevent skull fracture and do not prevent concussion. I would like them to review our latest peer reviewed published data and articles below including my web site.
