Eagles Win Over Giants - Game Balls
The Eagles won their fifth straight matchup with the Giants last night to take over sole possession of first place in the NFC East. From my perspective, I gotta say that this win feels a whole lot better today than it did yesterday. That game was nerve-wracking... So let us commence with the game balls.
Asante Samuel - Certainly can't excuse his fumble on a needless return, but this guy continues to his big season and continues his ownership of Eli Manning. He picked off Eli twice and grabbed the QBs killer fumble late in the game to seal the Eagles win. Samuel now has four INTs in his last 4 games against Eli Manning.
LeSean McCoy - Like I said in the recap, LeSean McCoy carried the ball 14 times tonight. On 12 of those carries, he got next to nothing. On the other two, he gained about 80 yards for a touchdown and a game winning first down. Just when the Giants thought they had everyone on this Eagles offense taken care of... Shady strikes.
Jeremy Maclin - A quietly big game from Maclin, which seems to happen more often than not. Maybe it's because DeSean Jackson makes such spectacular type plays, we sometimes miss the fact that Maclin is a having a nice year. He had 9 catches for 120 yards last night. He's less than 60 yards shy of eclipsing his yardage total from last season and has already nearly doubled his TD output. With six games left he has 706 yards and 7 TDs. It's very possible, if not likely he could eclipse 1,000 yards and 10 TDs. He has more catches, yards, & TDs than DeSean Jackson this season.

It looks photoshopped
yet it’s real. I think that’s the most impressive part.

That connot possibly be real.
Don’t fuck with me, man!

Can the O-line get a little love?
Granted I was all over the place watching the game last night … the beginning at work, listened to end of 2nd/start 3rd while speeding home, then watched the end in a room far away from my wife, who was watching Real Housewives of Atlanta … and then I discovered my DVR didn’t record anything but the opening sequence & I have to wait til Tuesday’s NFL Network replay to get down to the nitty gritty BUT …
seemed to me the O-line did a nice job in patches. And given who they were playing we could grade on a curve. The Giants got to Vick some as you would expect, but the line gave Vick some pressure-free pockets from which to throw, and they were good on the final drive. Even with Umeyiora busting through on the 4th & 1 TD, they helped Shady get around the corner pretty well.
From what I saw — and as I noted it wasn’t everything — can Justice, Peters and everyone but Herremans get some game ball HM action?

Herreman's had some glaring mistakes, but also had some great moments . . .
I would characterize this as a ‘tough’ game for him. Don’t forget his key block on Shady’s TD run.
offensive line
Although they are a group we didn’t really expect coming into the season I really hope we make some moves in the offseason. Half of the carries Shady gets he’s making moves in the backfield to get away from someone that goes unblocked.
Maybe I’m crazy but the Oline never seems to get much push on running plays. Sure we break a big one once in a while but it wouldn’t hurt seeming him getting 18 rushes and 102 yards the old fashioned way. The Giants Dline is one of the best but htis seems to be a consistent problem….or am I being too down on the line?
Real Housewives of Atlanta is totally f'ing compelling.
Count your blessings.
"What a gorgeous dog. What do you feed him?"
Certainly not Herremans… I don’t think Justice did a great job against Tuck. Peters did well.

actually it was Tapp who recovered that last fumble, Asante recovered Bradshaw’s early one

I think the O-line (minus Herremans) and the D line
Deserve the game ball. Vick had all day on the 4 man rush yesterday, and the Dline put a lot of pressure on Manning or Bradshaw (see 5 turnovers created mostly due to D line)

Screw it, Herremans had some bad penalties but Lines play AS A UNIT, and AS A UNIT they are playing at a high level right now (of course minus the pnealties..)

I would accept that
I just wanted to point out that I wasn’t completely blind to Herremans’s glaring mistakes last night.
O-line is that sort of job. Do great 95% of the time and no one notices, have a hold or a random clipping plus a random chop block that would’ve instead been a late hit, and um, we notice

Stop hatin' on Hairymans, he did his best to help the cause,
Nothin’ wrong with a good ole fashun “fuck up yur knee” chop block.
"What a gorgeous dog. What do you feed him?"
Nope
Too many penalties on the o-line (7), a nonexistant running attack, and a real struggle with the blitz in the 2nd half. They gave Vick time to throw generally. when the Giants just rushed 4 though.
Penalties are
FIXABLE. Playing consistent and given Vick plenty of time in the pocket is to be credited…..Weve been bitching about this group since the draft. They ARE playing well in spite of the penalties and we SHOULD give them credit where credit is due..
FLY #7 FLY !!!
Penalties are fixable to an extent, at some point though you have to just admit that this is an undisciplined team and nothing Andy Reid can say is going to stop them from taking stupid penalties. It’s going to bite us in the ass. We are 10 games into the season, at this point what you see is what you get.

what kind of an award does Avant get
man… i was so disappointed in him last night. That guy catches everything, and the time he drops the ball, its like makes me more mad than ever. I’m assuming thats cause he usually catches everything and his expectations are held to a certain level. I still can’t believe he dropped that ball in the end zone which was right between the numbers.

..but he also made arguably the most important catch of the game on a 3rd down at the end of the game….and it was a hard catch to make….I agree with you that the TD non-catch is inexcusable but, give credit where credit is due..

Meh
I’d say that about anyone… but damn he catches everything and that thing looked easy. Thats all I’m saying.

Those are always the hardest ones to catch. He had about 1-2 seconds to think about it…lol….VS 0.34532 seconds they usually have

No excuse for that drop. i dont care about his other 2 catches he also had a costly penalty. He was bad.

That 3rd down catch ism't such a big deal
if he catches that TD pass. You’re getting paid a couple million bucks to catch a ball, and you botch a TD that effectively takes a division rival out of the game going into half-time, you deserve to be called out for that. If the O-line never gets credit for all the times they succeed, I feel WR’s don’t get credit for the times they fail. Yeah, he’s came up big for us on 3rd down, but its more important, to me, that you catch the easy ones that put points on the board, than the hard ones.
Oof.
Sure you have to make that TD...
…but that 3rd down play was a clutch play, AND it occured after the missed TD. You cant always say, Well if we had scored 25 TDs in the first half, we woudnt be in this mess. Bottom line is, Yes he screwed up, but he also redeemed himself in a crucial situation afterwards…
FLY #7 FLY !!!
That was a nice catch.

Asante
had the recovery after Graham’s (amazing and very underrated) strip. Tapp had the pickup after Eli’s clusterfuck.
What you didn’t mention about Asante’s night was his hitting. He had two very big hits (one, questionably legal…). Regardless of whether it was clean or not, I never thought I’d see a penalty on Asante for hitting someone…
A few weeks ago, I wasn’t huge on Asante. I thought he was exciting but at the risk of letting up big plays and whiffing on hits. He hasn’t just produced takeaways (which the Mannings know quite well he has), but he’s been a shutdown corner who hasn’t allowed the big plays behind him. That, and aggressive hitting, are things I never thought I’d see from him. Kudos

… I just think he’s more of a complete player this year (ie not only his INT skills)
FLY #7 FLY !!!
Agreed.
He’s an all around better player this year. He’s the complete package a shutdown corner in the NFL should be. There is very little to complain about with him this year, and he’s not getting the respect he deserves for keeping our team in games that otherwise would be much more difficult.
Oof.
I'd say he
had a couple great hits too last night. It look like he picked that one guy up over his shoulder and slammed him down, I won’t even mention the helmet to helmet that didn’t even phase him. I think he has gotten a lot more aggressive, and I like it!

When I saw the penalty flag
I thought, “damn, we may never see asante try to hit again…”
So glad to see him stay aggressive.

I love Asante (usually)
But he has that one fatal flaw. The only reason he tackled their TE was cuz he ran straight into asante… he just kinda held on (which is commendable) and his big hit, while very entertaining, was not really a “good” tackle… it’s the same way he tucks in his arms and throws his body… I’ll just never be on board with his tackling until he gets in there, wraps up, and consistently makes open field tackles

Then my friend, you will never be on board with his tackling haha. It probably ain’t changing any time soon, we knew that when we got him. But yeah, it frustrating.

unfortunately, no I won’t ever be on board with his tackling. He is just not a tackler. I just need to learn to love him for who he is. sigh.

Play of the Game
Loved seeing the Giants load the box on 4th and 1 “Knowing” Vick was going to qb sneak for 1 yard. Then the pitch for a 50 yard TD run. Awesome Play Calling on that one
Fumble was recovered by Tapp
Thats 2 stories now where you give Asante credit for the recovery. I like Asante, he did great… he made the play to recover it but coughed it up to Tapp who recovered.
Check the tape, give Tapp his due:

Asante made a fumble recovery in the first half
After Brandon Graham ripped it out, Asante picked it up… the Eagles then went three and out and ended up with a field goal if I remember correctly…
Isn’t that what happened?

grabbed the QBs killer fumble late in the game to seal the Eagles win.

That’s what happens with a mediocre offensive line and a great pass rush. Your TE has to block.

I thought this was their best win yet, since it came against an opponent with a good record. Statistically the Giants are a very good team so far and were the best team to use as a measure of how good the Eagles are since the Packers game.
The team has made real progress since the beginning of the year and it should be pointed out that both the offensive and defensive lines have stabilized and can play at at elite level. At times during the game Vick could have painted a picture waiting for the play to develop! If they can do that against he Giants pass rush, they can do that to anybody. And if Vick has that kind of time in the rest of the games the Eagles will be in the Super Bowl.
Coughlin said his defense was good enough but the turnovers killed them. I say Tom is an idiot. The Eagles busted the game open with a 50 yard scamper at a critical juncture, making the Giants defense look awful in the process.
What impressed me was how aggressive the Eagles defense became once the Giants came back. When the team’s back was to the wall the defense forced turnovers both on picks and great hits. The offense responded as well, turning those turns into points.
It seemed to be a closer game than it really was. The Eagles dominated time of possession, made a lot more yards and scored 10 more points.
At the begging of this season, I thought their flaws were to severe for them to compete for a Title. Now, they seem to have fewer flaws than any other team. The trend is about as good as could be, and Andy deserves a lot of credit for assembling a new team on the fly. Is Lurie the best owner in the NFL? Since he bought the team they’ve been very entertaining most years and always a winning team, that’s very hard to do. Just ask Dallas!
I thought Atlanta was clearly our best win, but this was close. You are probably right too, sine this gives us a lead in the division and we won despite not playing our best.

Atlanta didn't fight as hard as the Giants did.
They do look like a slightly better team all around, though.

we def played bad
we need to play better next week. where was djax? banged up?
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Question "Vick"
Can Vick pass a football when rolling to his right out of the pocket? Seems like Giants allowed him to roll right and defenced only against the run. Rolls left, he can pass but right I don’t recall seeing him throwing a pass?
thats the "blueprint" the Giants laid out
but only few teams can put pressure on the quarterback with the front four like the Giants can. It wont be as easy as Chris Collinsworth made it sound
