Sunday night recap

Guys that impressed me:

Giants:

1. Justin Tuck - For most of the night, he made Justice his whipping boy despite Justice getting his share of help on a number of plays from a TE or RB/FB. Also did a great job of containment on Vick who didn't complete a single pass outside of the pocket while going to his right. Yeah, other teams will now try to overload to bring pressure from the left-side to make Vick roll right. Problem is that just about every team in the NFL doesn't have a RDE who has the athletic talent of Tuck.

2. Giants' CB - Vick had alot of time to throw last night especially when the Giants did blitz and only brought 4. Giants' CBs for the most part played a really strong game. Physical and were all over the Eagles' receivers most of the night. When the Eagles did catch something, they were usually tackled right afterwards. Not much YAC for any of the Eagles' WR last night. Thomas had the best game I thought by an opposing CB against the Eagles WRs all year so far.

Eagles:

1. McCoy - Didn't have much space last night but when he did, he made things happen. Really has become incredibly strong on bltiz pickup too and is their best RB at picking up the blitz hands down. Schmitt had a couple of blown reads last night.

2. Maclin - While Jackson is the more explosive player and more athletically gifted player, Maclin is the superior WR. Runs much superior routes with alot more precision and doesn't give up on a play like Jackson does at times. He also does a much better job of working intermediate routes once a play breaks down to get open. Hate to say it but there were a few plays last night that Jackson let up on or gave up on including that bomb in the 3rd quarter. That's unacceptable.

3. A. Samuel - Getting paid like a shutdown corner and earning every dime this year. After that great INT in the 2nd qtr, Manning didn't challenge Samuel again when he was 1-on-1 with another WR. That's respect. He also brought a physicalness and aggressiveness we really haven't seen this year form him in terms of tackling. Hell, Samuel brought down Boss one-on-one last night in the open field.

4. Patterson - Fat Man played a very strong game last night on 1st and 2nd down. Thought it was his best game of the year. Maintained his point-of-attack and got good push most of the night. Also pursued well. Dixon has gotten alot of attention this year because of his play earlier but Fat Man is still their best overall DT.

Guys that didn't impress me:

Giants:

1. Nicks - Needed a big game out of him and simply didn't get it. Eagles did double him alot with safety help when he was matched up against Patterson but he simply didn't really hurt the Eagles. Also had a few drops.

2. Jacobs - Two words. Washed up. Has no burst whatsoever and it takes him way too long to start. Even as a change of pack RB, he doesn't bring much to the table anymore. His drop last night in the 4th qtr was brutal.

3. Manning - Bonehead. Collingsworth was really easy on Manning last night despite several notable mental blunders including simply not sliding down instead of diving there in the 4th qtr. Wound up likely costing the Giants the game. Also missed his share of hot reads and guys who were open last night because he had time to throw when the Eagles' blitzed.

Guys that didn't impress me:

Eagles:

1. Jackson - Eagles did target him last night a fair amount and really tried to get him into the game with mixed results. There were a couple of plays where he either didn't finish his route, ran a really sloppy route, or didn't come back to help Vick when a play broke down. Vick was barking at him after he left up in the 3rd quarter on that deep bomb. Jackson is incredibly talented but there are too many times he doesn't go 100%.

2. Mikell - Had one of his crappier games of the year. Missed a few tackles last night and struggled in coverage including that obvious and costly PI call.

3. Interior lineman - McGlynn struggled last night with the Giants' DT at times and did a poor job of calling out adjustments at the line in regards to the Giants' blitz packages. McGlynn plays hard but has been a notable downgrade from Jackson last year. Just too slow at times especially with his footwork. Reminds me more and more of Fraley although he doesn't have the same size issues that Fraley had. Herremans also struggled last night with one of his weaker showings this year. Had the 2 penalties, didn't generate any push on running plays even though the Eagles tried to run behind him and Peters, and didn't do a great job of blitz protection. RG has been a festering sore this year. It looked like MJG got most of the time there last night but Cole played a bit.
