Defenseless Receivers...

Okay, first off let me start by saying I COMPLETELY HATE THE DEFENSELESS RECEIVER RULE. I miss the old days of Ronnie Lott blowing up a receiver as he catches the ball, rather than seeing a safety have to wait for the receiver to catch the ball and make a football move (dumbest description ever) before hitting him. That said...

...If Kurt Coleman was penalized for hitting a defenseless receiver in a very controversial call that easily could have had a huge effect on the game, how in the hell was the hit Daniel Manning put on Davonne Bess last night not one? Collie caught the ball, tucked it away, came down with two feet, saw Mikell coming and tucked his head before being hit. He was so non-defenseless that really the call should have been a catch and a fumble, not an incomplete pass with a penalty. Daniel Manning practically caught Bess in the air with his shoulder. Bess' feet never touched the ground until he got up off of his back.

I just want consistency above anything else and i don't get why we seem to end up on the wrong side of the stick on these type of calls so much.
