Something that may be lost in Vick's awesomeness the past couple of weeks is how nicely some of the Eagles' young defenders are stepping up, and how this defense may be reallying coming together. It is much improved over where it was to start the season -- think about it ....
1. Fokou: Since he started the run D has been much improved, and his aggressiveness is a great fit and helps set the tone for the rest of the D. Plus, his discipline is better: remember all of the stupid penalties he had last year? None so far this year, right?
2. Dixon: Like Fokou, has really solidified the run D, plus gets great push against the run and pass. Collapses the inside like no one we've had for the past several years. Great story too. Hard to believe a team so thin on depth like the Redskins saw fit to dump this guy. Another Reid reclamation project.
3. Patterson (Dmitri): Getting beat deep once nonwithstanding, he has been incredibly solid opposite Samuel the past two weeks. Big plays, has rarely seemed to be out of place and, like Dixon a Fokou, seems to enjoy being aggressive and being a hitter.
4. Coleman: Has stepped in at tough position (FS) and done solidly against Manning last week and now McNabb. Makes fewer mistakes than you would expect from a 7th round draft pick rookie, and also very aggressive (yet his aggressiveness has not resulted in too many dumb penalties or getting out of position).
You see the them here? Young, aggressive guys, who are also minimizing their errors and playing within the scheme. This reflects greatly on the Eagles personnel people, and also their defensive coaches in getting these guys coached up so quickly.
Along with the veterans on D, these young guys are contributing to an aggressiveness that I haven't seen on the Eagles D for a long time (and has clearly been missing since Dawkins has left).
This type of aggressive D is perfectly paired with our explosive offense, since they can really tee off when we get a big lead, and also since they don't need to play "perfectly" since the offense can pick them up if their aggressiveness leads to a big play/easy TD (like last night).
Exciting how this team is coming together right now!
