From a football fan and dog lover

I am a Colts fan and also a dog rescue worker...

Star-divide

Something many people do not know is that before the Mike Vick inccident only special interest groups took any real interest and action to stop dog fighting rings.  Since Mike Vick did his time and publicly came out to condemn his own actions things have changed.  With his public support  of animal activist groups a new awareness has swept the nation. Law inforcement around the country is more aware of this crime than EVER before. Police everywhere are now investigating dog fighting rings that before Vick would never have even been thought of.  His play on the field only adds to his fame which in turn spot lights dog fighting crimes even more.  A man who turns from a crime is in the best position to fight it.  I love dogs and work to help them. And while I hated what Mike did, I love what he is DOING.  I understand the emotions many have over this subject but there is a very very positive side to all that has happened.  Mike Vick, if he contiues his efforts on AND OFF the field may well do more to stop the cruel practice of dog fighting more than anyone else ever has.

P.S.  Good luck to all you Philly fans the rest of the way.  Oh, and pray for my injury depleted Colts, I would love to meet you again in the Super Bowl --Manning Vs Vick = AWESOME!!

Kudos...

…some people don’t know how to forgive. Those are the people who have never made a mistake in their lives. ;-)

Anyway, about the rest of your post. I have to disagree. We beat Peyton last game, BUT I DO NOT WANT ANY PARTS OF HIM FOR A SUPERBOWL TITLE so I can’t hope to see you there! LMAO

Has anyone ever...

It doesnt matter who you beat when it comes to a Superbowl.

Rather see Manning than Brady.

Because that would mean facing Belichik. You know just what the Colts’ D will do, but not the Pats.

You

have a great team and obviously some great fans, too. I agree with your post, and I hope like hell that his turnaround is for real with regards to his lifestyle. And I do NOT want to play against the Colts in the SB -for the same reason QWEST listed. PM is the best QB in recent memory. Maybe Vick can challenge that for a few seasons, but the Great Peyton has the long-term career that Vick sacrificed with his mistakes.

my dog jackson....

would not like this dog fighting thing… but he would be willing to forgive him (vick)…. i am not so sure… i am less concerned with the crime than the lack of simple ability to empathize that it shows… a person who dosen’t comprehend the pain he’s causing in a defenseless animal is suspect in my book… i want to believe he’s changed and i think on some level he has but i still question what kind of person he really is… nevertheless, he’s a great player and deserves respect for that.

I think pretty much everything that’s been said about this has been said. Either an Eagles fan can accept Vick on their team, with varying degrees of difficulty for each fan, or can’t, and then has to decide to continue to root for the team during what looks like it will be a much longer tenure than probably any of us imaged.

But, nice post, and not what I expected at all when I saw the title.

(1) I worked at a vet and I’m training to be a dog groomer, I love dogs, they are my favorite things ever..

(2) Vick did something that was wrong. However he’s done EVERYTHING right since then..

1 + 2 = 3 which is People can be fucking dumb if they choose, he’s my teams QB I dont care if he eats a poodle on the field if he put up 6 TD’s a game.

I won't support Vick

by wearing his jersey but I do think he deserves a second chance and I am sure as hell glad that he is getting it with the Eagles.

This post makes no sense...

You want the Eagles to succeed with Vick and you think he deserves a second chance…but you could never support him or cheer him on. Seems a little hyporcritical…you can’t hold things against him because of his past and think he deserves a second chance.

by justyn725 on Nov 16, 2010 6:17 PM EST up reply actions

by waterfield on Nov 17, 2010 6:08 PM EST up reply actions

I think people would get the wrong idea

I don’t live in Philly and I think outside of Philly Vick is more dog killer than man repenting for his sins. No matter what he will always be associated with killing dogs and I think many people would see a person wearing a Vick jersey and see someone who is alright with that behavior. My respect is building for Vick and I personally forgive him but I haven’t forgotten what he has done.

Cowboys suck.

by stinkypants on Nov 18, 2010 12:03 AM EST up reply actions

Unless you're able to change people's minds by you wearing that jersey...

I live FAR from Philly and I know a lot of people that hate Vick because of the dogs. I am a very big animal supporter in my community and I believe that getting a Vick jersey will not only show my support for my team and Vick but also possibly change some of the closed minds about Vick.

by justyn725 on Nov 18, 2010 12:20 PM EST up reply actions

I get it now.

Personally, I find him to be an inspiration, but I know he can still fail, and I would not seek out confrontations with people just to try to get them to open up their hearts. It’s none of my business, really.

by waterfield on Nov 20, 2010 11:47 AM EST up reply actions

Okay, not that I want to start a fight

But I just might.
So I am the bad guy for not forgiving Vick? I am the lowly scum of the earth because I don’t see fit to forgive a person who helped contribute to the meaningless torture and death of dogs? I am the the person wrong for thinking that a person shouldn’t get a shot at a multimillion dollar job after he wrecklessly and callously threw away his first opportunity? I am the dick because I resent the fact that if I funded a criminal organization that profited off the death of animals over state lines I would have a very real chance of being charged with a RICO crime and being sentenced to 20 years in prison but yet another athlete/famous person is let off with a pittance of a sentence?
I did not realize, that even though I have took it upon myself to consciously follow the laws of the land even with the opportunities to improve my life by committing crimes available to me, I am the person who is wrong here. My bad.

I totally get that Talon

When I think about what Vick did, it really disgusts me… but when I look back at my own past, I don’t know where I’d be if I wasn’t given A LOT of chances. I lost my license at 16, arrested twice by 18, went crazy in college, did the whole underage drinking and drugs. What was I thinking right? That is not who I am… at least not now. I learned, I grew and I can honestly say that 90% of the things I did, I wouldn’t do again.

Murder, rape… murdering animals even is unexcusable and I don’t think you have to forgive him. I don’t anyone should “HAVE TO” forgive him. He did a shitty thing. As long as he can live with himself and forgive himself that is all that really matters. His life doesn’t affect mine except on Sundays.

The young stuff, I get. I did a few stupid things as a kid, mainly stupid vandalism things. But when I became an adult I grew up. I realized that now all that stuff wasn’t something that I was gonna get a fine for but something I could be punished severely for. With Vick we weren’t talking about a 18 year old kid we were talking about a 27 year old supposed man with a multimillion dollar job.
Anyway, it’s really all for naught but I read some of these comments on all these posts and people are vilifying the people who are still pissed at him and I think that is the most unfair thing about all of this. People are lambasting the responses of people who still are upset with him for his actions as if they are the problem.
Look if you (directed generally here) can forgive the man because you truly think he has repented and not because he is playing good football, then bless you for your forgiving heart. I will not look at vick’s accomplishments on the field as if they make up for the terrible things he did.

Get off your high horse

If you “grew up” at 20-23 and somebody else “grows up” at 28-30, wtf difference does it make?

Gee, you did a few stupid things as a kid?

by waterfield on Nov 20, 2010 12:03 PM EST up reply actions

Do you see me gloating at all? Like I said if you want to forgive this man because you think he is genuinely remorseful and has done enough to make up for his past transgressions, then by all means do. But if all of sudden because he has our beloved Eagles as contender’s and so now you think is the right time to forgive him, that shit is gay. I haven’t forgiven him because I think he did way to little time and believe his remorse is only that he got caught. Hell he said himself that he would probably still be financing that operation if he wouldn’t have got caught.
Don’t sit there telling me to get off my high horse. There is no high horse for this situation. Vick got off light after committing a heinous act of cruelty and financing an illegal cross the state line organization. When I look down on him it is not because I am on a high horse but because he dug his own hole.
