Cowboys 2009 draft update
The Cowboys cut another player from their 2009 disaster draft today. This time it's Stephen Hodge. That leaves just 5 guys left from that draft, in which they selected 12 players. Next up... Brandon Williams?

Also makes me kinda nervous...
they drafted 13, we drafted 13….
I don’t want to be reading these posts about our 2010 class a few years down. Already jittery about 2 or 3 of them now.
But let’s be honest, without Parcells, the Cowboys SUCK in the draft.
Oops, actually they drafted 12, which I just fixed. Still… Nate Allen alone has already produced more than their entire draft. Ditto that for Brandon Graham. Plus… Lindley, Cooper, Coleman, and Clayton have all at least shown some ability in real game action so far this year.
Yup
All 6 of those guys could be starters on this team or somewhere else in the league. And there is def potential for them to be more than “just a starter”. This could go down as one of the Eagles better drafts. Time will tell.
FLY #7 FLY !!!
Damn I cant post anything yet....but I found an interesting picture Poster boy in reply to the Rocky statue
Everything’s bigger in Texas!!!! Fried Turkey anyone?? Oh, look at the scoreboard….

FLY #7 FLY !!!
Not possible
they got a B grade for that draft.

Read it an weep
"The biggest thing we talked about is Going Forward. Like I said, the Giants are going to be at the Meadowlands at 4:15 on Sunday afternoon. We’ve got to get ready for them. So what we need to do is learn from what happened in the past and Go Forward, starting this morning with our meetings, our walk-throughs and our practice."
-Jason Garrett, November 10th, 2010.
To be fair
Brandon Williams shoudln’t be nervous, the guy had a torn ACL in the 2nd preseason game of his rookie year… You could say that this is his rookie season, the season of the trainwreck.
Any staff that takes charge next season should take that into consideration.
Also sad that Hodge developed a degenerative knees condition…
Out of that draft only Butler, Phillips and Buehler look like keepers. I’ve actually been impressed with Buehler kicking FGs, coming from where he was a year ago he has improved a lot. Right now he’s at 75%, just a step below Akers (79%). If Williams and McGee continue to develop, that draft should be far from a failure… That’s why you should grade a draft after 3 years.
Let’s see each other in a year, ok? Or do you want me to mention the 2006 Draft?
Bunkley – Good run defender. That’s it.
Justice – Took him 3 years to wake up.
Gocong – Ugh.
Jean-Gilles – Ugh.
Avant – Great number 3 WR.
Bloom – Ugh.
Gaither – Ugh.
Ramsey – Who?
Teams have bad drafts every once in a while.
Arnold, almost 5 years of good memories, you'll be missed.

Dude
You just pointed out 5 starters (Gocong other team) and one backup out of 8 players. …? Thats bad how exactly
FLY #7 FLY !!!
I’m not sure what you’re getting at. That draft has produced much better results than your 2009 draft has and probably will produce.

Haha, awesome. You pick a draft that produced 5 players that have been regular starters at some point during their NFL careers, and a guy that as you noted, is a “great #3 WR?”
You can do better than this, Chandus. See me after class.

Considering their level of play...
Do they deserve to start?
Bunkley? Yes. He’s capable of playing the first 2 downs.
Justice? He woke up after his 3rd year and he’s playing well.
Gocong, Jean-Gilles and Gaither? No, no and no. You should always look for ways to bench those guys.
So, in reality, that Draft produced a starter like Olshansky or Spears (players that you like to mock because they aren’t anything other than run defenders), a good starter that woke up after his 3rd year and 3 starters that played due to need.
That’s most certainly a great Draft… I’ll just wait another year to really gauge the 2009 draft, ok?

I’m all for the “wait 3 years before you judge a draft” thing, but do we really need to wait on this one? Since… you know… 7 players weren’t even good enough to stick with a 1-7 team?
Choose your battles wisely Chandus. This one isn’t worth fighting, my friend.

Well, you also have to take something in consideration:
From 2000 to 2008, the Eagles had 9 3rd Round picks. Of those 4 have managed to become average or better starters (Burgess, Westbrook, Gocong and Bradley). And looking League wide, there’s also like a 50% success rate in that Round.
When your top pick is a 3rd Round pick, your chances of getting keepers is slim.
Obviously, we hoped for the best, that’s what makes us fans. But that’s why I’m telling you, if McGee and Williams continue to develop, that Draft is far from a trainwreck. It’s certainly not a success, considering that our 1st Round pick brought us Roy Williams… But let’s not go that way…

Hahahaha
That’s a comment like this one:
When the outcome of a game is influenced by a kick hitting the screen we will talk.
Huh?
When you’re comparing that Draft to a Draft that includes the Ryan Leafs of the world, that Draft from the Cowboys look good!

Well, actually, 2009 Cowboys draft is probably 2nd worst draft class ever. Eagles’ 1936 draft class was the worst ever. Eagles picked 9 players in the draft, none which signed with the Eagles.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
Wow...
…did he really just compare football from 1936 to football from last year? Hmm, some differences that come to mind are:
Leather helmets
Uprights in the endzone
Probably 8 teams instead of 32
Huge salary differences
Salary Cap
Segregation
Anyone else care to add more differences as to why this douche can’t compare the draft class of 1936 to the one 73 years later?
Um..."playing due to need"
Is what the NFL is about. It is why you can’t figure out with all that talent why you just won your second game of the season. In the NFL,
YOU ARE ONLY AS GOOD AS YOUR DEPTH.
And you guys have none. Why, do you ask? BECAUSE YOU DON’T DRAFT WELL.
It's laughable...
…that you give McGhee pass for a 3rd string QB who just now saw his first action…but want to go out of your way to point out that Avant is a #3 WR. Guess what…#3 wideouts play a lot…#3 QBs don’t.
.....Jerry.....Jerry....Jerry....Jerry........ OH wait thats Springer not jones
Sorry I get the two confused. They both make me laugh like hell though.
Update on Buehler...
A couple more nights like tonight and he will be getting the ax too. Especially since the fact is that since he has taken over as kicker, he can’t even get the ball to the endzone on kickoffs anymore! lol
