Just spent the last 45 minutes sitting at the next table eavesdropping while Joe Banner had a breakfast meeting with the station manager of WIP at Hymie's in Merion. The radio guy did about 85% of the talking. Some of it was really fascinating, like how the radio guy can't stand most of the talk show hosts. Evidently, he particularly dislikes Missanelli. Also of particular interest was a whole history on the Education of Ike Reese as a broadcaster, and how he "sucked" when he first started out.

Also entertaining was how much the guy was kissing Banner's ass. And perhaps not surprisingly, how much input and control Andy Reid has in the marketing of the team. 

And from the career advice column, if you want a job working for WIP, it's best to have gone to a Catholic school. The station manager feels that people who went to Catholic schools have better values and a better work ethic, although he himself is Jewish and went to public school.

Altogether, a way more interesting time than I had originally expected when I stopped in for my bagel and schmeer. Although I desperately wanted to tell the radio guy he needed to get some shows for people with more than a third-grade education. I'll get a pat on the head someday for my restraint...
