As much as Andy Reid tries to cover for players sometimes, this one was so painfully obvious that he had to do it. Was Ellis Hobbs the only one that had a bad day last Sunday? Definitely not. However, he was the most glaring weakness and when added to the other poor performances he has had this year, this move had to be made.
Now, the thing is, I don't necessarily see this as a bad thing for him. Hobbs was originally signed to play as a nickel corner...which was confirmed in his first official interview as an Eagle. His size just makes him too much of a liability on the outside, where receivers such as Britt, Bryant, Williams, Nicks, and Barden operate. Not to mention we are about to matchup against Reggie Wayne. And if we aren't going to play Asante on the best wideout (which we aren't), it is too easy for other teams to get the mismatch on us there. I always thought that Joselio would be the replacement on the outside, but he just hasn't been the same player he was before the suspension last year. Patterson has worked his a$$ off for this chance. I wasn't sure he would make the 53 man roster this year. Let's hope he doesn't blow it.
