I don't say [penalties] lead up to losses, but...ain't nobody perfect. You can look around the league today and I'm pretty sure 90% of teams that won today had a bunch of penalties.

I'm curious myself
After I get home from work this afternoon, I think I’ll do a writeup on penalties vs. winning percentage, because that stat just doesn’t seem right.
As I mentioned below, Football Outsiders’ research shows that offensive penalties have a negative correlation with winning although defensive penalties do not.

The penalties are absolutely the reason for the loss yesterday.
But the worst one BY FAR was that delay of game penalty at the end of the half!
Rec'd em? Damn near killed em!
True…but who do you blame for that? Is it the coach? The QB? The ref’s?

Because of the track record
I blame Andy. If he didnt have a career of stuff like that than maybe not, but let’s face it – the guy’s clock management is TERRIBLE
I mean, they reviewed that play for like 8 minutes….then called a Timeout…than got a delay of game penalty. Not that there are reviews in Pop Warner – but that shouldn’t even happen at that level of play!
That’s the ball game. I truthfully believe if they had scored a TD on that drive they would have won the game…and it might not even have been close. The Offense was looking for a spark all day and that could have started it right before the half
Rec'd em? Damn near killed em!
The right thing would have been for the offense to come to the line, see what look the defense gave them, then called a time out. Reid just cannot think on his feet.
Sometimes it's just fun to take the family for a spin around the lake in the old boat. Even if it's not your family or your boat, and they're screaming for you to stop.

…except they called a timeout before the play too, so if Reid takes your advice, we’re backed up 15 yards instead of 5. Good job.
That whole clusterfuck was on the referee.
That's great Bobby, but we don't have Dance Dance Revolution, so... you're dumb.
I agree…Reid definitely has a track record…and you are absolutely right it’s terrible. As this was unfolding live I said on the game thread that the team would have all this time to come up with a play and end up calling something ridiculous…now I wasn’t right per say but I knew that there was no way they were getting a 4th and 1 off without a hitch.
Now it was my understanding that Reid called the time out because he did not understand why the spot of the ball was moved back. Ok, fair enough. The ref’s I guess either did or tried to explain it to him but regardless the team should have been at the line ready to go. The ball was moved back by like a yard at most, was that yard really going to change the play? Everyone is blaming the ref’s and I guess that it is somewhat on them but everyone knows that a time out is 30 seconds. So once those 30 seconds expire then the play clock should begin. If that happened, then there really is no one to blame but Andy.

Teams with more offensive penalties generally lose more games, but there is no correlation between defensive penalties and losses.
To clarify...
That was a quote from Football Outsiders, but the comment system ate the quotation marks and everything that came after it.

I don’t have a copy of 2007’s Pro Football Prospectus so I can’t read the study, but these guys are usually pretty sharp. According to their research, false starts have the highest correlation with losing (and Peters has committed his share of these this year).
If anyone else has read Jon Clayton’s piece about McNabb,
Donovan McNabb showed Philadelphia Eagles fans what they were missing in a 17-12 statement victory by the Washington Redskins.
Yeah, a running game for the last 10 years, McNabb did not play that well, not well enough to win at all, the eagles beat themselves…. with a little help from the refs.
I've been waiting my whole life for an Eagles Championship
RIP JJ
Screw John Clayton
I wish the Birds had won yesterday obviously, but the loss does nothing for me to “want mcnabb back” no disrespect to 5 – but we lost that game a lot more than they won it!
Rec'd em? Damn near killed em!
Jason Peters proves to us that..
he is an moron with a lousy lackadaisical attitude! The coaches are obviously not getting through to him about this.
Trade him, all he does is get holding penalties and false starts I have no idea how he made the pro bowl last year
He's 12th man for the defense 3/4s of the time
Time to get Howard working as much as possible — if possible, get him some game experience. We’re going to need him
Agreed
Jason (Hold on Tight) Peters is not the brightest bulb in the pack.
I will always be pulling for you #20.

This makes me angrier than anything else. Dude is really going to come up with an excuse like that after, on numerous occasions, he stalled out drives and can be one of the obvious players to blame for this loss? Pathetic. Utterly pathetic.

Hey, Jason
F you! This type of “who gives a shit” attitude is not going to cut it around here. Perhaps you should consider playing for the Oakland Raiders.
Lex clavatoris designati rescindenda est.
This is why many Bills fans
where happy to see Peters go. What a tool.

Good thing
that 82% of statistics are made up on the spot. Right Jason? I think 90% is a little high…just saying
Obviously
Peters learned much more from the Andrews brothers than they did from him.
