Philadelphia Eagles Week 7 Game Balls

There's really not many candidates for a game ball from an Eagles perspective here. In fact, I could only come up with two.

First, David Akers. He was 4-4 including two 46 yarders yesterday. Plus, I'm pretty sure that every one of his kickoffs were touchbacks. Really big bounceback performance from him after his puzzling three misses against the Falcons last week.

The second and final candidate is rookie WR Riley Cooper who caught three passes for 51 including his first NFL TD. The highlight of the day, for the Eagles at least, was his spectacular 37 yard grab that probably should have been an interception. This was just a great individual play on his part.

Cooper's a gamer....

They need to involve him a lot more in this offense…..I still dont know why they never try a fade/jumpball to the corner of the endzone with him on the field….they NEVER try that….

Kudos to Akers as well.

They called it at least once, but Kolb did not like what he saw and threw it away

As much as its easy to blame those two...

…its a team lost man…the offense wasnt much better…they got what 3 points off 3 turnovers…and :
Red Zone Efficiency 1/4 – 25%
Goal To Go Efficiency 1/3 – 33% (including a nice fumble)…

ST fumble was huge too…..
Coaching was equally at fault for loss….

SO yeh, Team Loss for sure;;;;

No...

Mike McGlynn. That cost us the game.

The MM fumble....

..while it may have shifted some momentum…..it still doesnt stop Britt’s anal rape of the Defense…

We could’ve had a 23-7 lead and could’ve have played nickel the rest of the way. That shift in momentum is what allowed Collins and Britt to play their asses off.

In part...

and I dont necessarily disagree with you man….but in the grand scheme of things, it also showed how weak that part of the team is…..Defense calls, holes…..and Yeh MAYBE they would have won…but it doesnt fix the problems they have on Defense….and their ability to blow leads….and or Offensive inconsistency….

Our pass rush has disappeared. Graham is getting like 25% playing time the past two weeks and late in the game we stop blitzing almost entirely. I’m not taking the blame away from the corners but the fail pass rush in the 2nd half allowed it to happen too.

I would also be interested to know if our DE’s were dropped into coverage on any of the TD passes. Cole and Parker pass rushing from 30 yds away is intimidating, I’m sure.

Def

Cooper in this one. He made that play. If it wasnt for him on that, thats a pick for a big return. I like that he adjusted to snatch that one out of the air.

@Bwest, yeah I was wondering the same thing with the fades. We are in the redzone and we dont even try it. We havent tried one in a while.

I think Dixon should get one too

He came into relief for Bunk and quite frankly looked like the best DT on the Eagles roster and from that performance appears to have solidified a starting spot on the roster permanently.

Just to round it off

with a defensive player, Dixon or Mikkell. They both played well.

Cooper Definitely

I actually jumped up from my seat, shouted and clapped… all by myself.
Those kinds of plays are what separate winner from losers. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying he is or will ever be great, but that sort of effort and tenacity is just great to see. I hope he gets more looks as the season progresses.

by McMuffin on Oct 25, 2010 2:28 PM EDT reply actions

I loved the effort by Cooper

But can we PLEASE never call that stoopid Kolb-as-WR-flea-flicker pass again? Can’t we just beat the guy in front of us for a gain?

Hell, Andy and Marty will probably look at that play as a success, and say ‘if we could just tinker with it a little bit more…’. It was lucky as hell that that wasn’t an incomplete pass at best.

i was fine with the call

Slows pass rush down. I’m not fine, however, with kolbs throw.

That’s more of a #5 or #7 playcall. Kolb has an arm, but that’s a tough play to pull off.

2010-11 Predictions:

Kevin Kolb will go to the probowl and complete >65% of passes.

Jeremy Maclyn will have more receptions than Miles Austin & Steve Smith

Graham will have the starting LDE spot tied up by week 5, win ROTY, and have >10 Sacks

11-5 finish.

This is my exact problem with the way the Eagles play

If he can’t pull it off, DON"T HAVE HIM MAKE THE THROW. They’re just putting him in a position where he has a high chance of failure. His strength is not heaving the ball downfield all the time. So stop putting him in that position and coach to his strengths (e.g., if it’s WINDY, and it’s IN YOUR FACE, keep your QB from throwing up prayers). It’s like Andy/Marty/Howie were saying “he’ll run the offense more efficiently now” or “he’s a better fit”, then they trot him right out there and have him run the Donovan offense. As you said, Donny could do that. Kolb, maybe only occaisionally.

Just give it to kenny britt- that’s what the defense would do.

Game ball goes to Kenny Britt and Kerry Collins.

They are responsible for benching Ellis Hobbs.

Pretty sure Hobbs getting benched is just as likely as Allen getting benched. I personally have nothing against Hobbs and thought he played well prior to this game. I would put most of the blame on McD because if we can game plan for someone we do awesome, but if we have to adapt mid-game we lose. It’s not a coincidence that the two biggest players to destroy are defense are both rookies getting their first breakout game (Brit and Best).

I also think if Britt had been in the game from the start we could have adapted at half time and pulled off a comeback in the 2nd half with our adjustments, but that’s just speculation.

I want Hobbs cut asap.

I want McD and Reid fired for that defensive fiasco. Reid is the worst game day coach in the NFL.

Wow that’s a lot of drama for a 4-3 team. Were you one of those people who thought we’d go 0-7 too because that’s how you’re acting.

by cin7 on Oct 25, 2010 6:01 PM EDT up reply actions

And replace Hobbs with who? Joselio Hanson?

Hobbs had an awful game yesterday, but before that he wasn’t playing bad. Like it or not he’s the best option we have for #2 corner.

As for Reid, he’s not going anywhere and he shouldn’t. McDermott, however, better get his shit together soon or you may get your wish. I know the front office believes that this defense is much better than they’re playing right now, and I agree.

Agreed

The Hobbs haters are just pushing for Lindley.. I have high hopes for Lindley in the future but there’s no way putting another rookie in the line-up right now would be an upgrade.

One thing nobody has mentioned is why we are seeing so much of Coleman out there. He was there on at least one of the long completions to Britt. Who is he replacing when he goes in? Do we really have that many 3 Safety packages? If we do, then god that was dumb to not have more depth at that position. Coleman is only on the team because a few balls rolled his way in preseason game #4. If I had his luck I’d be on the team too.

by cin7 on Oct 25, 2010 6:58 PM EDT up reply actions

Lindley > Hobbs.

A bag of topsoil would have been better than Hobbs on Sunday. At least Britt might have tripped over a bag of topsoil on his way to his “epic game” and historically unprecedented fantasy points.

Yeah, there seems to be trend towards your posts. I get it.. you hate Hobbs, blah blah blah. Stats don’t back up your opinion, he had one bad game, not a bad season.

good game yesterday

I seriously thought you had us. Cooper’s a baller though, that’s for sure. combined with Jackson, Maclin, Celek, McCoy, ect., that makes for one scary team.
good luck with the division though, it’s anybodies game. maybe this will finally be the one that knocks the Cowboys off of MNF for a good, long while.

question

was it more Kenny Brit actually being a force? or was it our secondary just being overmatched?
