The Linc - Kevin Kolb's Scary Concussion Story
Eagles Notebook: Took Kolb a while to come out of concussion fog | Philadelphia Daily News | 10/22/2010
"I went into our quarterback coach's [James Urban] office, it was on Thursday," after the hit, 3 days before the Detroit game, Kolb said. "He said, 'Hey, in nickel, they do a two-for-two swap, they take out a 'backer and a defensive lineman, they bring in a pass-rusher and they bring in a nickel back.' I had no idea what nickel even was. That's when I was like, 'OK, they're doing the right thing' [keeping Kolb out of that game]. Before that, you want to get out there, of course," especially after the terrible offensive performance early against Green Bay.
Eagles Notes: Babin, Witherspoon Thriving for Titans
Will Witherspoon and Jason Babin were little more than serviceable in their roles last season with the Eagles. They have excelled the first six weeks with the Titans.
Giants have fate of Boys in their hands - NFC East Blog - ESPN
Through divine intervention (the NFL schedule maker), the Giants have two cracks at burying the Cowboys for good in the next four weeks. I've already set the ESPN.com record for consecutive obits on the Cowboys' season, but I think a loss to the Giants on Sunday would even make Jones, the Tony Robbins of the NFL, hang his head in resignation. I'm at a complete loss for why the Cowboys are three-point favorites to win this game. (Have four of their five games been blacked out in Vegas?)

That article on Kolb’s concussion was really interesting. Speaking as someone who’s never had a concussion, when he talked about how heavily and for how long it impacts your perception, it makes you realize just how serious the injury is. I mean, any brain injury is serious, but I guess you just never think about how scary concussions are until you read something like that. Glad the NFL is trying so hard to spread awareness about them, this type of injury needs to be taken seriously.

yeah brain cells don't grow back, so when damaged they are lost forever
and that is what stem cell research is for, if we can get a stem cell to divide, then brain injurys and their long term affects can be cured

i’ve been seeing babin and witherspoon all year every time i flip the channel to watch the titans. makes you wonder if we’re picking the right people to fit our schemes and playbooks.
I think this is why,,,
They should put Vick in in the 3rd Quarter is theyre struggling offenseively. The Titans have the most sacks in the league are going to be all over Kolb all day. On the other hand, I really hope Kolb can have a decent/ good day vs this type of defense. If he / and the protection can get thru a game like this, he / and the FO should have enough confiendence with him being the starter for the future….. great test for Kolb on Sunday…probably biggest one yet…

I think its funny
We cut Witherspoon last year and this year he is having a great season with the Titans. We did the same thing with Spikes in 2007 and he went on to have an exceptional season with the 49ers the next season. It only makes me believe more and more that something other than our lack of immense talent at the LB position attributes to the lack of major production from that area. We picked up Ernie Sims (who mind you had 3 100+ tackle seasons) and he struggles in our system. I just can’t cease to believe that something isn’t wrong with our defensive system (not really wrong, but flawed) that makes LBs seem so obsolete year in and out. We haven’t really had stability at our LB spot since Trotter was in his prime.
I think you brought this up on a previous post and I totally agreed
Spuds got a great quote from Babin on PE.com today
“The Titans defense “fits my mentality. It fits my abilities,” Babin told the team’s official website. "There’s no more ‘square peg, round hole.’
“There were a lot of zone blitzes (with the Eagles). A lot of times we were dropping. A lot of times we had different responsibilities. Here it’s just go as fast as you can and hit the guy in front of you and whatever happens happens.”
Part of me wonders why so many players are square pegs…or opportunities for square pegs. We bring in so many guys and it takes most of them forever to ramp up. And these are guys who know how to play at the pro level, for the most part. It’s like we look at a guy who’s an A but say “He’s a good A, but we could make him a great B”, instead of saying ’He’s a good A, let’s see how we can use those A abilities the best". Seems like that’s what the Titans and Seahawks (with Clemons) are doing
+1
I agree. The Eagles need to focus more on LBs going forward for sure ….coaching, players and scheme …

Another LB issue that just occurred to me
When did Ron Rivera leave? That may have had a lot to do with things
Good point
I looked that up and he left after the 2003 year. Jeremiah went on to have a couple good seasons after that, but otherwise, its gone pretty down hill since then. Jeremiah gives him alot of credit to becoming a Pro-Bowler. After that though, it hasn’t gotten any better.
Ernie Sims has gotten better each week. He is finally starting to grasp the system. Also, just because a player goes somewhere else and succeeds does not really put a negative spin on the system the Eagles run. That player just did not fit the system, there really is nothing more to it than that. Plus, the Eagles coach up their defensive line players really well so that they can still contribute to another team.

Dallas Clark is out for the year, that will only help us when we play them after the bye. Wonder how long a “few weeks” means for Austin Collie, without those two I’d like our chances a whole lot more. Also, the Giants/Skins have played the Colts already.
Well
Collie just had hand surgury, and we play then in 16 days. I think its fair to assume that he will not play (and if he does, no way hes close to 100%)
QB Michael Vick says he feels he is at full strength and is ready for whatever role the Eagles have planned vs. Titans.
I still think that it is a good move to start with Kolb on Sunday. He has the hot hand, played superbly last Sunday against the Falcons and deserves the shot to see if the Eagles can beat a good Titans team. Also, while Vick thinks he is fully healthy, why rush him back unless it is absolutely necessary? Kolb has done well and I don’t think Vick needs to play this weekend and should just relax and take it easy.
With that said, if Kolb falters and Vick really is healthy, then I will want to see Reid go to Vick if that is what gives us the best chance to win the football game. Pretty simple.
