Questions NOT concerning our QBs
Okay, I’m throwing questions out there in order to get some answers and maybe spark some conversation on a topic other than starting/trading our QBs. Feel free to jump in on any or all of these:
Question #1: What’s up with Victor? We placed on PUP before training camp if I remember correctly, which means he now (after 6 games) has three weeks to start practicing. Does he come back now? After the bye? Ever? We’re pretty stacked at DE, and at least Graham (and maybe Tapp) have played DT in passing situations which Victor has done in the past. So, do we need him? Do we even want him? If we do, at which player’s expense?
Question #2: What’s up with Keenan Clayton? He hasn’t been activated at all this year. I thought he had a good preseason, I thought he especially outperformed fellow rookie LB Jamar Chaney who has been active this season. Is Chaney just a better ST player? Do they play different LB positions (SAM vs WILL...with all our LB shuffling I forget who has settled into which position)?
Question #3: What’s up with Reggie Wells? And this question should largely spark speculative answers unless anyone has found some inside information that I have no access to. He stepped in for Nick Cole in his first game as an Eagle, and has been absent since. I actually thought our line looked better once he came in, and fully expected him to get the start the following week. MJG ended up with the start, and has actually been playing really well. Is Wells’ position on the bench due to the good performance of Herremans/MJG, or to his own poor performance (in either practice or picking up the playbook)? Is he another Stacy Andrews whom we’ll hear endless excuses for until he’s simply not on the team anymore?
Question #4: Again a speculative one, and TOTALLY dependent on how strongly he comes back: but, what are the chances we keep Weaver as the big RB we’ve tried to get this year while keeping Owen as FB. I, for one, have LOVED Owen. This kid is a tough guy, a brutal hitter, a weapon in the offense, and a good blocker. Of course, that’s not to say I don’t want Weaver, b/c I think the same things of him. In reality, I’d love both...but how cool would it be to have McCoy, Harrison, and Weaver with Owen as a FB?
Question #5: What’s up with Clay Harbor? I thought he had a good preseason, and I was excited to see him in game action, but it seems as though Garrett has largely been the second TE. Is Garrett the better blocker? Is there something that Clay isn’t catching onto?
Time’s yours...

I wanted us to draft Owen Schmitt when he came out. He’s been really good so far though I haven’t really noticed him at blocker outside of the really brutal hits he’s put on some people. Then again, I haven’t really been paying attention to how many 2-back sets we run out of. The thing I really like about Schmitt is he’s a good pass catcher and he’s tough to bring down. It seems like every week he makes a couple catches where at least 3 guys are needed to bring him down. I like seeing that.

Another guy with
a knee injury out of college that we drafted.
Ingram, Ikegwonou
I know there is a few more but I’m drawing a blank.
I can’t kill the team for drafting Jack. He was a projected 1st round talent who had a bad injury at the combine. Thats a gamble I would have made too.

With regards to Victor, I think they keep him if Bunk ends up getting surgery and going on IR — if he’s heathy and can play, that is.
That said, I don’t think he takes a roster spot from anyone without an injury.
Clayton
Im surprised as well. I thought he made his living at special teams and LB in college. with his speed and power, im really surprised…..Im actually surprised hes not even there as LB backup. The kid looked great in pre-season.

I have a question...
Can anyone explain to me why Ellis Hobbs was lined up 1-on-1 against Tony Gonzalez on the goal line?
The Eagles had their goal line formation out there while Falcons had a 5 WR set out. Eagles had only four guys not on the line and playing the pass, so it was either Gonzalez or a wide open receiver for a TD. It was either a really bad play call by McDermott or a really good one by the Falcons.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
Kevin Kolb and Michael Vick combined for the season: 130/201, 64.7 completion%, 1603 yards, 8.0 YPA, 11 TDs, 2 INTs, 103.3 QB rating.
Good by the Falcons
We play our guys according to position, not personnel. It’s the reason we don’t just put Asante on their #1 regardless of where that guy lines up like some teams do with their top corner.
Hobbs is usually (and I’m guessing in this case) responsible for the guy lined up farthest out left. At the goal line that happened to be Gonzales by the Falcons call, and it was a good mis-match they created.

The Falcons are deadly at the goal line, especially when they split Gonzalez out by himself on one side like that. You can put a bigger guy on him, but chances are that a linebacker doesn’t have much of a chance against him. You can try a corner on him, but the corner better be big and physical, or he absolutely has no chance. You can go with a zone look and take him away, but then they’re just going to hammer Turner inside at you.
Obviously, a shorter corner like Hobbs isn’t covering Gonzalez at the goal line. No chance. There’s no way that’s what McDermott wanted, but sometimes the offense just calls the right play/formation and finds a mismatch.

ok let's see what I can do..
I really think that Victor will get IR’d and will have one more chance next training camp.. It’ll be hard for him to come in and take reps from Tapp, Graham, JP and Laws all of whom are playing extremely well.
Question #2: What’s up with Keenan Clayton? He hasn’t been activated at all this year. I thought he had a good preseason, I thought he especially outperformed fellow rookie LB Jamar Chaney who has been active this season. Is Chaney just a better ST player? Do they play different LB positions (SAM vs WILL…with all our LB shuffling I forget who has settled into which position)?
I think Chaney is the MLB, but I get the two confused so if I’m wrong just consider this a pass…
Question #3: What’s up with Reggie Wells? And this question should largely spark speculative answers unless anyone has found some inside information that I have no access to. He stepped in for Nick Cole in his first game as an Eagle, and has been absent since. Is he another Stacy Andrews whom we’ll hear endless excuses for until he’s simply not on the team anymore?
Andy Reid say’s he’s still transitioning from LG to RG, apparently he’s still got some work to do in order to get his Technique right.. Our Line did better when he was in however MJG did pretty well last week.. I dont think he’s another Stacy Andrews, at worst Wells is a very good backup.
I really think there is a high chance that we keep both however I really dont know if Weaver will ever be the same or if his injury wasn’t career ending… Weaver would be the primary FB though w/ Schmitt in there in some sort of “heavy package.”
Question #5: What’s up with Clay Harbor? I thought he had a good preseason, and I was excited to see him in game action, but it seems as though Garrett has largely been the second TE. Is Garrett the better blocker? Is there something that Clay isn’t catching onto?
This is purely what I’m thinking, I think Clay’s still trying to get ahold of things, I think he just needs more time to adjust to the NFL, his blocking was ok in the preseason and is something he needed to work on.. I think Mills is a better blocker so that’s why he’s been dressing ahead of Harbour..

I believe Harbor is in the dog house for missing a big block in week 1.
Abriami….who? haha jk but he really is forget-able.
Wells…..not sure. W.E’s answer looked swell.

According to these links plus stuff I’ve read elsewhere, Macho has tried out with
Lions
Rams
Texans
Jets
Saints
Titans
and Demps has tried out with
Lions
Cowboys
Texans
And neither has found full-time employment.

How can the line improve their run blocking? Between McCoy and Buckley against the Falcons, they averaged 3.2 yards per carry. That is purely on the line, they haven’t been opening many holes in the season.

Weird
it seemed like during the game they were doing fine. Not dominating, but doing enough to keep the Atlanta defense honest.
I don’t want to disregard those numbers totally within the context of the game, but given that they scored 31 points and missed three field goal attempts, including two when they were trying to ice the game, I don’t think the offense was anything but functional this week. If only every defense could make them look so good.

I know the offense was doing just fine without the running game. But in a close game, the running game will be needed and 3.2 yards a carry really isn’t going to cut it.

I feel like that low ypc was because of two thing
1) the line’s run blocking was really struggling
2) i felt the atl defense played way to aggresively to stop the run, they were clearly burned multiple times on play actions

Exactly, they ate up the Play Actions. Biggest and most obvious example was Maclin’s 83yd TD.

Yeah, you have to look at the results as a whole
complaining about a 3.2 yard per carry average when the run game was clearly working in tandem with the passing game to help the overall offense is simply not seeing the big picture.
Akers makes his 3 field goals and they had 40 points. I’ll take that 8 days a week.
