JasonB just posted a link to an article on csnphilly.com by Ray Didinger. I read it going in disappointed with our special teams and after finishing I am ecstatic that the Eagles got rid of Mike Bell. He is a loser and I will tell you why.
Ted Ginn is a very good returner and really took advantage of our bad coverage all night. I however felt there was a severe lack of effort, not a lack of talent or coaching. One that stuck out to me was the opening kickoff I believe when Lindley "chased down" Ginn. He jogged for about 40 yards on a ginormous angle. The lack of effort was obvious. And this is from a rookie...he should be pumped!
The one kickoff that the article really stressed was the last kickoff by the Birds.
Akers gave it a nice boot and well this is how it unfolded:
Gaither had a shot at Ginn but missed. Coleman was pancaked. Jordan slipped and fell like a klutz.
Ginn then reversed field coming back to the side where Bell had responsibility. But him being the chicken shit that
he is decided to stay blocked by a rookie for 5.9 seconds. Yes 5.9 seconds. That is a great block in pass coverage
for an interior lineman. Bell stayed blocked on the opposite side of the field on a kickoff return for 5.9 seconds. I just
can't get over that. And well, the Eagles obviously couldn't either when they traded him yesterday for Jerome
Harrison. Great job Roseman!
Also, Gaither sucks. Cut him now. He isn't even good on specials anymore.
