I can't think of a worse one.

Not even Carolina’s Ricky Manning Jr. literally throwing James Trash out of bounds was worse.

Here’s my thinking…as awful and scarring as that was, mcnabb was still young and we thought they’d be back (and they were, only to kill us again and again).

Also, last week was awful. I did expect them to lose today, in my heart (so maybe that is why the tampa game is worse…i guess), but for them to come out with this pathetic effort is really…i’m out of adjectives for awful.

So, news flash! We have a really really crappy offensive game plan.

All underneath routes are open (curls, hooks, ins, outs, screens) against the Dallas CBs who keep giving our WRs so much cushion.

In fact, we could really just throw quick hitch routes to our WRs every play and we’d average at least 5 yards per play, with the amount of cushion the Dallas CBs are giving us.

Draw runs are open to Damarcus Ware’s side and have been all game.

The play DeSean just scored on has been open all game.

We have not committed to running and running well to set up play action and slow down Demarcus Ware. The other good thing about running is it would protect the Nick Cole led O line and maybe get them to believe in themselves a bit more.

Bottom line: Instead of taking what Dallas gives us, we’ve kept trying to force the big play all game. The great offensive coaches generally look for the weaknesses in the defenses they’re playing against and attack those weaknesses. The mediocre ones keep doing +what we do best" and hope for different results.

Remember Albert Einstein’s quote; Insanity; doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.

I state this earlier in the second quarter too!
All underneath routes are open (curls, hooks, ins, outs, screens) against the Dallas CBs who keep giving our WRs so much cushion.

The Middle of the field has been wide open. And WRs like Avant and Celek have been open their but Dmac keeps holdin on to the ball or just flat out misses

Which is good. But its been the same type of beat down just like last time! U played them THREE times….and u emphasized film study this pass week, yet..beat down in the same fashion.

Thanks again and see you all next year.

any thoughts...

will mcnabb be our qb next year or is it officially kolb’s team now?

by PhillyTilly on Jan 9, 2010 11:14 PM EST reply actions

Up in the air. Reid loves McNabb, but i dont think the feeling is reciprocal. And 5 clearly doesn’t like being here.

by joetimek on Jan 9, 2010 11:15 PM EST up reply actions

Big picture

I don’t think McNabb was the reason we didn’t beat the Cowboys, and his play this year was certainly not problematic.

The only reason to get rid of him is if you can get good value and it’s the only way you can retain/extend Kolb.

That’s risky though. Kolb can play, but we really don’t know what we’re gonna get. McNabb we know who and what he is.

If this team had a dominant defense, this offense could be enough to win a Super Bowl. I don’t think it’s THE issue, by any means. McNabb’s future I mean.

I hope they come out and squash it ASAP. It’s fueled by people asking the question over and over again even though there’s no real reason to believe we should go on/be better off without him.

When the pain heals in a few days

we’ll probably be able to admit that this year was a step forward. We found Westbrook’s replacement, we’ve got two good young WRs plus Celek (may add Avant too), and we learned Kolb can play.

I think we can go any number of ways in the draft.

And the big question might be ‘can we ever win with this style of play?’ I still say yes, but when someone figures us out, they have us nailed and it’s bad.

by PhillyTilly on Jan 9, 2010 11:20 PM EST up reply actions

Different, yes ...

… but we were getting dominated to that point in the game, just not on the scoreboard. I agree it would have been a huge momentum boost, but all things considered, I didn’t see any signs that we would have outplayed them over the course of 60 minutes.

I thought last week we were close; this week looked like the worst loss of the three. We have no answer for them defensively … and it’s probably personnel more than scheme. Dallas can run against us, and get the ball to playmakers who force us to open-field tackle … which is clearly not our strength.

I thought after Macho went out we might improve there, but not so much.

Agree

But honestly why are we asking that question? Was he the problem this season or in the Dallas games?

Thoroughly outplayed. Never really had a chance, you can’t pin this on him.

Unless we’re just eager to get value and retain Kolb, why let him go?

Also, Reid and Lurie have never shown any indication that they’d like to get rid of him. And they tend not to give a shit what fans or media think.

Thing is, this was never a Super Bowl D. I think we took some big steps this year with Maclin, McCoy, Kolb, Celek, Peters.

Witherspoon might be a good Eagle playing alongside a healthy Stewart Bradley.

I’d love an FS or whoever this year’s Cushing is. We need some defensive reinforcements

For next year we still don’t know if Shawn Andrews will play football, if is brother is worthy of starting and who will play center so yeah I’m worried.

But, no, I didn’t expect them to be great tonight. Although snapping the ball on time would have been nice.

the way i see it is jamal jackson is a wash next year and shawn andrews is probably done….he hasn’t played in two years. even if he is healthy, is he going to be any good? i don’t know if stacy will be back. i believe his contract was extremely back loaded and the birds can get out of it cheap after this year but would be locked into a bunch of money after that. if they can get out without repercussions, i think they do it….so by my calculations, we’re due for an upgrade at c and rg

I’m not denying that, it’s a given Bradley will improve the defense (if he can get back to 100%) but the Eagles would have been destroyed tonight even with him. I think the team has serious questions about the OL for 2010

Fuck

Losing a playoff game to the Cowboys in “Jerryworld” is the worst of all possible worlds.
That said, if they were playing well it was almost inevitable. Our team is cobbled together as is and it’s amazing we made it this far. The stat I’d like to see is something like “snaps times rookies on the field for the play, plus snaps missed by projected starters”. We’re without the two Andrews and our starting center; Westbrook has had an obviously tough season from the injury standpoint and was a relative non-factor; our receivers are extremely young; we don’t have Bradley; additionally, our whole LB corps is a clusterfuck; Harris, already a rookie, went out early; Sheldon was clearly not 100 percent, especially after he had to leave the game for a spell; Celek got dinged pretty good early (although he eventually recovered); etc. etc. etc.
At full strength this is an entirely different game. We’ve kicked their asses all decade and I don’t see any reason we won’t resume where we left off next year.
We’re playing with two-thirds of a team here.

by rockaintdeadyet on Jan 9, 2010 11:56 PM EST reply actions

Not to give up with the injuries you had at safety…

Congratulations to the one-third of Cowboys fans who actually have a connection to Dallas and know what a draw play is. You’ve managed to get a playoff win despite the dead weight of bandwagon “America’s Team” bullshit, an egomaniacal ass of an owner who lives forever in the wrath of the football gods for his sins against the sport, and more than one perennial choke-artists and or drama-queens in the star spots on your roster.
