Heckert to interview with Browns Wednesday

Photo

Jay Glazer is reporting that Eagles GM Tom Heckert with meet with new Browns' football Czar Mike Holmgren about their GM opening tomorrow.

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Tom Heckert is slated to be in Cleveland Tuesday night to meet with Holmgren regarding the vacant GM position, FOXSports.com has learned.

Heckert was also coveted for the same post by the Browns years ago before they hired Phil Savage, but at the time Heckert elected to stay in Philadelphia. Savage lasted in Cleveland until the end of the 2008 season, then was replaced by first-year GM George Kokinis — was was fired in early November.

Les Bowen seems to think it's unlikely Heckert will see Cleveland as a good fit.

I'm told Tom Heckert only wants the Cleveland GM job if he gets final say over personnel. Hard to see that working out with Mike Holmgren.

It would appear to be a lateral move in every sense of the word for Heckert. If Mike Holmgren doesn't have final say over personnel, that what is he there for? It seems clearly that Heckert would be under Holmgren just like he's under Reid here. Either way, the Eagles have granted permission for the meeting to take place.

If I had my choice...

out of Heckert, McDermott, and Mornhinweg on which I’d be most willing to give up (if I had to choose one), then it’d definitely be Heckert. I hate how there are stories flying around all of these guys being at the top of team’s lists. If we lose all three, we might be in trouble.

I have an issue with any member of an organization looking for another job during a playoff run even though Heckert may not have much in what is going on.

It seems clear that Heckert would be under Holmgren just like he’s under Reid here.

Maybe Tom thinks Mike would be easier on the back than Andy.

Why in the world would Heckert want that job?

I would think the money would have to be really significant…otherwise it would make zero sense

I really don't know

It would be one thing if he was going to get final say… That would be a pretty big deal, but obviously he’s not.

Yeah, thats likely to be Holmgren territory

Tom will be back next year.

I think they were saying on the radio that they tried to get him previously and he wouldn’t agree to a deal unless he had final say and obviously we see how that turned out, he stayed in Philly.

That's my question

Why do you leave to take a job in the same capacity on a team with less talent on the roster?

There’s something to be said for being able to take responsibility for a turnaround.
