Offense is about stepping up and making a play, it's about betting your man and showing your numbers, it's about a shift to leave a defender with broken ankles.

That's not what Defence is about. It's D is about knowing what your roll is you do your job the man next to you dose his and when it's all put together it is effective. Now what dose this mean. As a MLB if your job is to cover the RB in the flat but you see a TE running across the middle then guess what you move to cover the RB in the flat. Dawkins was a pro at accountability. This year there was no accountability and what that turned into was a breakdown. LBS didn't have confidence in the SS and FS, CBs didn't have confidence in the LB .... Why??

I think what a lot of people don't realize is what the FS position did in a JJ defence. Everyone had a job but there were more assignments than people performing the jobs a lot of the time and Dawkins was able to through experience know what the offense was trying to do and what part of the field needed support or who was going to be left uncovered and move into position to cause the play to break down. With the inexperience at the FS position and Sean taking over ( I'm not blaming Sean everyone knew he wasn't JJ) with new concepts and old philosophies it didn't work and a new more talented FS will not fill the void next year. It's something that needs to be consumed with, surrounded with hours and hours in the film room studying what the NFL offensives philosophies are trying to accomplish.

I read a post called "The Safety Dance" where a blogger was talking about moving Sheldon to a FS position and drafting a talented corner and why I was thinking this guy is a jacka*s, I mean why would you move one of the stronger cover men in the game into a position that he's unfamiliar with? But, the more I thought about it the more it made me think it's a good idea. Sheldon was with Dawkins for his entire NFL creear and knew what JJ wanted to do as well as anyone in the league. I'm a believer in Hanson as a #2 corner with room for improvement and good corners are easyer to find then good safeties. Will Sheldon be an upgrade at FS I think so Will Hanson be a fall off I think so but I think as a whole we would be better off. Can anyone think off hand of some good cover men coming out of the draft that may fall to somewhere in the 19th ranged pick in the 2nd round that would be able to step into a starting roll / nickle corner? Andy will move up if it's worth the talent and has proven he will take good CBs with upper echelon picks.
