Jumping off ship!
Disclaimer: This is a anti-Mcnabb post!
As I was in the car with my wife driving from Las Vegas to LA, she started to ask me about the Eagles (This never ever happens). She wanted to know what happened to them because some of her friends wanted to rub in the fact that their husbands and boyfriends loved the Cowboys and that they kicked our asses. They all knew that I was a huge Eagles fan and I always rubbed it in when we beat up those Cowgirls. Andrea said that she got a bunch of texts about the "Seagles" and "Donovan McChoker". This conversation lead me to a bunch of important questions. Lets get into them:
Why should I have to continually defend this guy? I am tired of hearing about this arugment. I was in the Marines and all I would do is act as if I thought Mcnabb was some kind of Peyton Manning, when I didn't think he was. I am not going to fight for him anymore. I am tired of it.
Why is it that Mcnabb is soo awful at thowing the football? I can see that he misses his guys a whole hell of a lot. Even when I look at some of the "highlights" I see that some of the passes were off target. I really do feel that there is no such thing as failure, only feed back. Even though I am trying to use this in my life, Mcnabb sure as hell hasn't. I've watched Farve do his thing for years. He throws a lot of cannon passes like Mcnabb does, but for some reason, his recievers adapt to them. Ours haven't. This says that he is doing something wrong. I know that he is far from the worst, because he has had some production. But, all in all, he ain't no top 10 Qb!
Am I going to accept his post game BS anymore? It isn't my choice if he is the Qb of the Eagles. I know this. The one thing I am in charge of is being honest with myself. Since '99', I have always thought that he has been a company man. Meaning that he wasn't real when he said a lot of what he was saying. I still feel that the only time we have heard the real Mcnabb has been when Kolb was drafted. That season, Mcnabb seemed more candid. I am not an expert of communication or body language but I really feel that he is being dishonest with us most of the time. Didn't he say the same old after the beat down in Dallas a couple weeks ago? I think he did. Now if he really meant that he should go learn how not to over throw Desean (4.3!) Jackson when he has like 5 steps on a CB! He won't. His track record has shown that (IMO).
Is Kolb a better option at this point? I don't know. We haven't seen enough of him to really know. I do know that this guy really has some good accuracy. His passes, most of the time, has lead his WRs (After 10 years in the NFL, Mcnabb still hasn't figured this out yet) and has been onpoint. He looked really bad when he had to come in after Mcnabb. I cannot dispute that. He had decent games though. Even though it was the Chiefs, I thought he looked like he had a lot more confidence.
My wife has always hated Mcnabb and has continually bashed him though out the years. Her complaints are: He seems very complacent and lazy; He doesn't have a strong presence on the field; He always misses with his passes; He seems insincere when he talks after the games ( I've been watching press conferences on Eagles.com).
To all of this I would always come up with some kind of defense for him. I would say, The coaching is too predictable all of the time. He doesn't have a lot of great skill players around him. He has been injured a lot. Blah Blah Blah.
All of this has been for not. A friutless ten year span with this guy has been the result. And I am tired of all of it! Kaplush! That was the sound of me jumping off Donovan's ship.
What do you guys think? Am I an idiot? Should I be more loyal? (Note: I have defended Mcnabb more than anyone I know, in hostile environments too).

All aboard the Kolb Cutter!
It is not as flashy as the McNabb ship, but it moves methodically toward its goal. The Offense next year will be more consistent → leading to more rest for the D → which will lead to better starting field position.
Also a consistent short passing game will open up the running game so our YPA will be higher next year.

No longer
A McNabb supporter. Too inconsistent, and way too much goofing around (the air guitar really did it for me). However, this is his contract year, so, we might see a more serious McNabb if he returns. I have always been a big supporter of McNabb; I’m just ready for a change.
I think this is the general feel through out the fanbase.
I love McNabb but I too am leaning towards moving in another direction.

Wow
We never really agree. At least I don’t feel like the black sheep at this point. Thanks
Why should I have to continually defend this guy?
Why defend him so hard ? I think his record as a starter speaks for itself doesn’t it?

agreed
I refuse to submit to one side of this argument or the other…mainly because my say has ZERO bearing on the outcome.
To the author of this poll…what do you hope to accomplish by “jumping off the McNabb ship”?
Will you not root for the Birds next year if he stays?
On one side, McNabb is the winningest QB in franchise history, I give the man credit for that. A decade of the best Eagles football in my 32 years would make me fine with giving him one more shot.
On the other side, in the past decade, it seems to me, if he was going to elevate his game, he would have done it by now.
One thing is for sure, either way, I BLEED GREEN …

Dude, you're not getting it.
The deal is, if McNabb or Kolb is at the helm of this team starting this next season, I will still be rooting for the Eagles as hard as I can. I will be the most obnoxious, a$$hole fan there can be regardless of who is quarterbacking this team. I am a fan of the entire team and will never “jump ship”…

I will root for the Eagles until the grave my friend.
You are 100% correct. Me jumping off ship doesn’t mean much really. I still will be at the Red Rock Casino @ 930am for all the games! The only difference is I am going to stay quiet (or not be as contentious) as I was in the past with regard to our starting QB.
1) My wife asked me, so she is the boss and I had to defend him.
2) When your platoon in the Marines is literally 75% Texan, you have to be the aggressor if you want any chance of winning.
3) His record is nice, but…….
His record is nice, but…….
I could have sworn , by how critics them, that all QB’s are judged by is if a team wins or loses? Fair or not but its fact. So to say his record is nice is an understatement. He has proven to be a winner for a longtime. When our teams lose , sometimes we are so fast to just get rid of everyone and overreact. Its not like your team finished 4-12 and out of the playoffs. This team went 11-5 , regardless of who they beat…….thats not easy in today’s salary cap NFL.

You know how you had a nice season, made it to the playoffs, got a nice win over a division foe, but then ya lost short of the super bowl.Yea that was pretty nice, and I am sure you are relatively happy with the season. I would be too, given the history. well try doing that for another 7 years, while watching your qb struggle in the biggest games…. at some point, it really starts to lose its value.
i understand that point
but there is only one true winner each year and 31 non winners……..Its that hard to reach the Superbowl :)

Yawn
I would like the Eagles and Mcnabb or whoever to win a Superbowl.
If you are fine with the way things are going, good for you. I, however, are not happy with the current patterns.
The Phillies in my mind are the best franchise in town. I know they are also the most losing organization ever, but I don’t care. They are better than the Eagles. The sad thing is that I really don’t even like baseball all that much. Winning the World Series is something that can never taken away.
Our last football championship was 5 years before even my Mother was born. Not something I cherish all that much.
…who cares?!
Why should we keep a QB who win percentage Championship game and beyond is .167? Blah blah blah, teams would envy us for getting there so many times, blah blah blah.
If you ain’t first, you’re last.
RIP Jim Johnson, best ever.
And...only one team can be first...
And…only teams that can make the championship game can win the Super Bowl…so…
I was swaying after last years NFCCG
Now I am done. No ill feelings toward the guy, just want to move on. All my buddies (who actually know football) feel the same way. We want to see something new.
Donovan's on the downside
Business is business. He will not get any better, he is what he is. What he is is an above average quarterback who is streaky, and has a knack very being very small in big games. Business is business. Joe Montana got traded, Warren Moon got released, and Favre got Favred. Time for both parties to move on.
I don’t know if Kolb is “the guy”, but I do know that McNabb isn’t. At least not anymore.
I bleed green and I piss silver and blue
I really hope that some desperate team says they want to see Mcnabb on their team. I totally think it is possible and feasable at this point. Before I knew he wasn’t leaving, now I am not so sure.
Plus, the Vikings can “reload” and have another shot next year. With Mcnabb’s resume, and his personal relationship with their coach, I think that it might happen. Who is going to believe that Farve is going to be able to replicate this year again next year? I will never doubt that dude, but I don’t know.
They won't even need to be that desperate.
They just need to be a team in the market for a quality QB. If we shop McNabb there will be plenty teams trying to get him. The catch is there will only be a couple teams the Eagles will be willing to deal with. As close as the ties are to the Vikings I have a hard time believing we would hand an NFC team that could challenge us in the postseason a QB of McNabb’s caliber. I think the Rams or the Browns are more likely, but McNabb may also have some say in where he goes (and he should quite frankly).
Look I don't think mcnabb is the best quarterback in the league
but why is it EVERY DAMN YEAR he’s the scapegoat for failure? This is a team sport; I just don’t get it why Mcnabb is the first to blame. There were SEVERAL reasons why this team ended up the way it was…look at the injuries, look at the safety position, the LBs, the run game, the playcalling, yet we all want to blame it on mcnabb. keep in mind with mcnabb at the helm and several YOUNG players we scored the most points in franchise history (with little run game)
My feelings are that we give mcnabb one more year. we fix our LB play (hopefully stew comes back), we fix the safety position and we see what
"If I can get you to think twice, I'm in your head."
-Brian Dawkins
I agree...
All the blame gets put on McNabb every year that we don’t win the Super Bowl…even having a good record or making the playoffs doesn’t stop this yearly tradition. I will cheer for the Eagles no matter who is the QB but I think McNabb is the right one for us now. I agree that the defense needs to step up and we need some more rushing…
in years past that may have been true
I always supported mcnabb, but this year is different. I think most of the intelligent eagles fans aren’t blaming mcnabb, they just want a change.
There are so many factors leading to people wanting to trade mcnabb
-last year of his contract
-hes old, and consistently has trouble in big games
-kolb has been sitting for 3 years and has had some promising games
-why keep him for another year and let him walk for nothing, conversely do we really want another 3 years of mcnabb, and let kolb walk?
-the picks we get from him could really help our defense
Most people aren’t using him as a scapegoat, theres just so much happening this offseason that I think this change could really help.
-last year of his contract
-why keep him for another year and let him walk for nothing, conversely do we really want another 3 years of mcnabb, and let kolb walk?
-the picks we get from him could really help our defense
Thats basically all one point, and that point i do agree with
-hes old, and consistently has trouble in big games
33 is not old for a QB in the NFL, one year would put him at 34, its not like he signed and will play out till hes 40 or something. Also, consistently has trouble in big games. I actually have seen him play will in big games and come short, the superbowl, nfc championship last year, and others as well. we lost those games because of the Defense, not Mcnabb, and if we did lose “because of mcnabb” that should be rephrased to because of the entire offensive unit, not just one player on it. especially when we don’t have a run game and other Defenses can tell exactly what we will call.
-kolb has been sitting for 3 years and has had some promising games
In all seriousness, what is one more year gonna do, hes 25 yrs old.
"If I can get you to think twice, I'm in your head."
-Brian Dawkins
Who says he'll walk away?
If we give McNabb one more year, then Superbowl or not hand the ball to Kolb, why would Kolb walk? His best situation would be here if the Eagles commit to him after the 2010 season.
And the NFCCG is not all on the defense
Mcnabb’s first half was complete garbage, and put us in a big hole. The defense allowed 1 second half TD.

He's not the scapegoat
But he’s part of the problem. The QB touches the ball every offensive snap just about. If he’s struggling then you;‘ll have people calling for his head. It’s no different than any other player who struggles…except for at this point he’s getting older and there’s no upside.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
so does the center…lets blame him too
"If I can get you to think twice, I'm in your head."
-Brian Dawkins
that was a reply too
he QB touches the ball every offensive snap
the point is, yes, when mcnabb plays well, the team plays well, and vice versa when he plays bad. However the thing still remains that Mcnabb should not be relied solely upon to win games. He isn’t manning and he isn’t brady, we all know that. Mcnabb needs a running attack, a solid O-line and solid D and better playcalling
"If I can get you to think twice, I'm in your head."
-Brian Dawkins
well think about it...
yes, the QB does touch the ball every snap, but what happens when you run the ball? Does he have any effect on that? So in reality mcnabb is responsible for 50 % of th- wait what? we don’t run the ball that much!?!?!
"If I can get you to think twice, I'm in your head."
-Brian Dawkins
check the stats
McNabb was 22nd in attemps. Even if youadd 60 attemps to his throws we still attempted less passes.
wait, almost all the playoff teams and sb contenders passed the ball more?
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Didn’t he say that it was all his fault? At last press conference, didn’t he say that? Are you telling me that I shouldn’t take his word for it. Come on, he would know better than me (Note: I think it was mostly his fault that he missed a lot of passes). He could have audibled or something, he does almost have ten years in the offense already.
No shit our offensive line wasn’t as good as it has been. No shit the heart and soul of our defense left. We all know this. Tell me if he hit Jackson for a long TD it would have changed that game? It would have. He didn’t so it is his fault.
I agree with you totally
dont worry about some complaints your getting from the people on this site. mcnabb doesnt deserve the job because he plays like he doesnt want it. The guy makes millions a year playing a game and he still can’t put a little effort into it.
if he gives less than a crap about football
why is he still around in Philly then? And why does he have a job here, no less?
Adam Eaton gave less than a crap. He got rightfully booed at the Phils’ RING CEREMONY.
Shawn Andrews gives less than a crap. Try finding someone who will back his actions up. It’s gonna be kinda hard.
Point is, to last 11 years in arguably the toughest sports town in America with the hardest job in the biggest sport takes some serious mental toughness, which I think defines him the most for me.
If you want to debate whether he deserves to be back, go ahead. If you want to debate his mental toughness, you’re plain wrong.

Wow, everyone is finally coming to the realization
That McNabb would serve better on another team? Im shedding a tear here ladiest and gentleman!
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
I cannot stand it much longer any longer. I really am tired of this pattern.
For real, he should be traded. I have a lot of patience, but it is all gone with #5. He is nice, I like him still. I just don’t want him to be the Qb anymore. He isn’t working for us, I think he should get a fresh start somewhere else.
Gahhhhh...
Alrite I’m gonna give my opinion here. I love McNabb, and I know at least some of us do. But I can’t deny that his time is running out, and Kevin Kolb is supposedly entering his “prime” stage….
In my opinion, what I want to do is give McNabb one more year to try to win it all, and then if he happens to fail, then let him get traded or let the FO do something. I mean, they gave him a raise, but not an extension for a reason. He has these two years to get it done, and one of the two years is gone. So I would say that this is his last real chance to win a Superbowl with the Eagles….
If I'm goin' to hell, you're coming with me...
Next year is Mcnabbs last year of the contract
So he walks for free if we keep him one more year.

fat chance
mcnabb is a loser plain and simple… no more chances… no more excuses… he lost the big one at syracuse when he blew his last game in college and its been the same ever since… but what the hell??? this is the last window of opportunity to get some value for him as trade bait… same for vick… get rid of them now while there is something to be gotten… since there is absolutely no possibility of mcnabb ever doing anything but choking, there is no benefit to keeping him other than destroying what value he has….

mcnabb is no peyton
its not fair to compare mcnabb to manning. hes a super freak. one thing i noticed last weekend. Before the game did you see peyton manning? he had his game face on and he was ready for battle. There was no bs air guitar act. Mannings got nerves of steel.

A reading from the book of EvilBanner to the Kolbians.
Verily I say unto thee unworthy, unwashed, and unthinking denizens of Philadelphia that not only shall our stalwart leader Donovan McNabb be the starting quarterback next year, but he will receive a contract extension. And Kolb is history. He will be traded (and never should have been picked in the first place). The unrighteous will be shewn the error of their ways and the unrepentant shall be lain low. The word of the Lord.
...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.

Wow a post saying that some one doesn't like McNabb anymore
This is some great shit!!!!!!!!!!
Let's get it Birds.
you can fool some of the people...
mcnabb and vick are two of the great talents in the nfl… (not)…surely there are teams that would give the top draft choices for them… (that of course is wishful thinking on my part)… more likely we (eagles fans) will get treated to more years of mind boggling idiocy waiting for mcnabb to have an attack of consistency or find his brain under a matteress… the likelihood of mcnabb showing any sign of being a real qb is just plain zero… about the same as andy reid disovering that running he ball makes passing more effective…or having a dfense capable of getting off the field is a worthwhile acheivement!!!!
