Around SBN: Tiger Woods, Tony Romo Grouped Together At Pebble Beach

"When I came out to LA after my back issue, I had to look coach Reid in the eye and tell him I owe him," Andrews said. "It’s bigger than football with me right now. If nothing else, I just wish that I could get just one more season just so I can pay coach Reid and just prove to the fans that I still have it, I still want to be a part of this organization. And for coach Reid sticking by me with my situation in 2008, and I definitely owe the city of Philadelphia so hopefully lord willing, I can get back to 100 percent and get to mashing people again."

I've heard this before...

The Eagles need to treat this offseason as if Shawn Andrews is not going to play for this team in 2010, which was a big mistake they made in 2009. If Andrews gives us anything, it’s a bonus.

by JimmyK on Jan 21, 2010 10:10 AM EST reply actions

call me a sucker...

but man… i want to believe him

How awesome would it be if somehow he returned to pro bowl form.

It could be the piece that puts us over the top

I'd rather be an Eagles fan till the day i die and go 0-16 every year than be a cockroach cowboys fan

It's a shame...

He wasted 2 years of his prime, not to mention the Eagles’ money and the fans’ respect.

by JimmyK on Jan 21, 2010 10:21 AM EST up reply actions

its a shame

the birds paid for his studio so he can NOT play football. We need to cut our loses and get rid of the andrews sisters all together

eventually

he is going to need more money so he can make videos in his basement on youtube. Maybe then he will feel like suiting up

I wish I could get paid to sit around and make youtube videos.

The man needed 2 back surguries

Why are you guys all cutting him up? Problems with the back are one of the worse injuries you can have. I still have hope for him and how can you guys not? He comes back, and he’s our top O-lineman (give or take with Peters)

by Team Serbia on Jan 21, 2010 10:58 AM EST reply actions

Because

It is way easier to sit at home on your sofa in a pair of sweat pants with Cheetos stains on them and complain that a guy who could likely crush you with minimal effort is soft, than it is to admit that 1) the guy is way better than you could ever dream to be 2) he may have real problems and 3) you would have quit with those problems as well, without even considering a comeback.

by Cormican on Jan 21, 2010 11:04 AM EST up reply actions

You answered your own question. Back injuries are some of the worst injuries one could ever have. Expecting someone to ever come back to form after two of them is usually not a good idea.

by Walcott on Jan 21, 2010 11:14 AM EST up reply actions

Yea but why are people cutting him up?

He’s trying to come back, and I believe he will. They’re bitching at him like he hasn’t wanted to play.

by Team Serbia on Jan 21, 2010 11:16 AM EST up reply actions

Anybody else remember...

how he was going to come back and “beast” for us again in 2009? I do. Turned out real well, right?

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

It just pissed me off...

that he said that and went on IR and two days later. C’mon man, don’t be cocky if you already know you’re not going to play.

by IronHank on Jan 21, 2010 11:18 AM EST up reply actions

But he did come back to practise

And I believe it was then he realized that something still wasn’t right. Got it checked and was told he needs another surgury.

by Team Serbia on Jan 21, 2010 11:39 AM EST up reply actions

Hey man, I'm all for it if he actually stays on the field through camp

But if he shows any sign of wavering in his resolve, I’d advocate an instant cut.

I'm willing to give him 1 more year

When he is healthy, he is one of the best. All-Pro and 2 Time Pro Bowler. I would be harder on him than any other player, but I’ll give him 1 last shot.

I want him to be given another year.

But not given the starting job. We need to get another starting level guy in there and assume Shawn won’t play. Then, if he does, it will be like Christmas come early.

by NOLACuse on Jan 21, 2010 12:39 PM EST reply actions

I say give him another shot

Hope for the best, and prepare for the worst.

I hope he’s ok to come back healthy.

by EANX33 on Jan 21, 2010 12:59 PM EST reply actions

I would like that very much, Shawn.

And, let it be known, for better or worse – I still believe in you.

by cwel87 on Jan 21, 2010 1:22 PM EST reply actions

I agree with some (most) of the sentiment expressed here. If he is healthy, he is one of the best in the business and would be a huge boon for the o-line. At this point we just can’t count on him to be ok and we need some more depth. But we definitely should bring him into camp and give him every chance to earn his job back.

Whoever said play this offseason Andrews isn’t here……anything he could potentially give us next season is a bonus but I’m not coutning on him.

by Dark Donniee on Jan 21, 2010 1:27 PM EST reply actions

Move on

Hopefully the Eagles take what Andrews says with a grain of salt and move on. It would be great to have Andrews back but you have no idea what kind of shape he would be in, if he would be able to pay most of the season, and just what kind of ability he has.

by MG77 on Jan 21, 2010 1:47 PM EST reply actions

he did prove one thing with that quote, he is still a better talker and hopefully a better RG than he is a singer/rapper.

Chase Utley is so good that on one pitch he stole second, third and the shortstop's hat.

Sweet baby Jesus.

If we’ve heard this crap from Shawna, we’ve heard it a thousand times. “I really want to play…” “I want to do it for the fans…” “I’m about to freestyle up in here.” It’s the same old stuff from the aptly named, “Big Kid.” The “lord willing” caveat gives him an out. We all know he will never play again. He is playing us for suckers. I am with Hank and Bye Dawk on this one, but without any semblance of optimism nor delusions about what is to come. He will show up to training camp, something will “go wrong.” He’ll be placed on IR. Lather, rinse, repeat.

...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.

no he’s clearly not just fucking with us, if that was the case he wouldn’t be on this team anymore, get real.you clearly no nothing about back issues, They are nothing to be careless with.I believe he will come back and i sure hope it will be with the eagles.
