Mike Shanahan will coach the Redskins... SO WHAT!!!
News has recently broken about Mike Shanahan accepting the soon-to-be-open Redskins coaching job for a ridiculous amount of money. My initial reaction dealt with the disrespect/stupidity/lunacy that Dan Snyder showed as he orchestrated this whole ordeal while a head coach was still in place. Others were shocked at the amount of money in the deal and that old man Pennybags was simply striking again. However, there was an atmosphere of concern amongst certain folks.
"Shanahan won a Super Bowl."
"He's getting a team with a good defense."
"I'm scared"
My response..... SO WHAT!!!

The above list shows all of the Super Bowl winning coaching since Shanahan did it twice in '98 and '99. Since then, 8 other coaches have won the big dance. Only 3 of them are still coaching in the NFL. My point? Just because a coach won a Super Bowl over ten years ago does not mean that he will do it again. In fact...
No Super Bowl winning coachHas ever won another Super Bowl with another team
Granted, some of the coaches above are no longer in the league due to their own decisions, but the coach is not 100% responsible for a team's success (see the current Indianapolis Colts). I know most of you aren't worried, but for those of you who are... DON'T!!!

Big Red
I think he can win one. He has the right team now. I’m not sure if the team is mature enough. But the current cast can win a championship.
BEAK PERFORMANCE takin it all the way!
welcome to BGN dude
But I really don’t like your username!
I happen to be a Kolb fan

I feel bad for Cambell
No CBA this year means hes likely stuck with the Deadskins another year, and since theyre changing coaches again, it means another new system for the poor guy. If he had some consistancy around him, I think he could be pretty good player.
This is like when
Al Saunders came in and was going to revamp their entire offense with his 100,000 page offensive playbook.

That’s an interesting point. I thought about this with the hoopla of Holmgren going to Cleveland. Now I know he’s not the head coach and he obviously know a whole lot about football, but I think he falls into the same category as Shanahan. Credit to Holmgren for getting to the SB in ‘05, but he and Shanahan really haven’t done much recently (since late ’90’s). Once again, I really admire Holmgren and know that he is a great coach, but I guess its just a gut feeling that if he were to come back and coach, he wouldn’t be the immediate answer – and that’s the same way I feel about Shanahan. ’Ole Daniel “Dollarbills” Snyder has struck again, but the track record speaks for itself. I believe he did have a high profile, Superbowl winning coach in Washington not too long ago…some Gibbs guy…
Dedication without talent is a daydream. Talent without dedication is a nightmare.
the thing is i dont think this effects us but more the cowboys and giants.
Mike S is really good at developing young talent which he will no doubt aquire, we have a young team so we will run with them for yrs but the cowboys and nyg are older at alot of their spots so I see it being ours and the skins division for the 5 yrs after probably 2011.
Fuck Shanahan and his creepy eye. What did he do after Elway? NOTHING. Well, he did get himself fired in Denver— that’s an achievement.
Reid builds teams for the long haul. Shanahan had Elway and lucked out on Terrell Davis. We have nothing to fear.

athough Shanahan's
zone running game consistantly gets 1,000+yard rushers and usually causes alot of problems… But it will take 1-2 offseasons to get everything(personel) he needs to run that type of zone scheme infact here is my in depth analysis:)
1) He will need a more athletic offensive line, which will basically have to be completely overhauled in Washington, there OL is old and big and clunky, I see them going out in FA and trading for some younger/promising Offensive linemen then taking one or two high over the next two years.
2) he will need a 1 cut type of runningback, pretty much has a few of those in Washington but if he can get one with a bit more talent then he would be golden(im assuming portis isnt there next year, ive just got a feeling he’s done as a redskin)
3) a good blocking fullback…
4) a dual threat QB(cough cough campbell)

Shanahan coached for the long haul...
Anyone that says bringing in a coach with his credentials is not going to change anything is an idiot. Seriously, its not like the Skins will win the SB next year, or the year after that but he obviously going to get the organization moving back in the right direction. Look at what Parcells did in Dallas. Did he win any playoff games? Nope. But in 3 short years he built the team up to be able to contend for the divisional title. The year after he left… they went 13-3… please dont tell me that was Wade Phillips. Shanahan to the Redskins is not a good thing for Eagles fans plan and simple. They may not dominate us, they may not even beat us, but they will be a better run team, a better organization, and a flat out better football team.

I think Shanahan will improve the Redskins
Though, it doesn’t make them an automatic pick to win the Super Bowl. Mike Ditka, George Seifert, and Tom Flores were Super Bowl winning coaches that sucked ass with their next teams. Jimmy Johnson had some decent years with the Dolphins, but nothing like his success with the Cowboys.
Some people will make the point that Shanahan’s last three seasons in Denver were very average. I think a year away from pro football and a new team could give him renewed success. I think the Redskins will be a very dangerous team in Shanahan’s second season.

The funny thing is that the REdskins have played us really tough over the past few years. So even if they get better, it’s not like much will change for us. Hopefully they’ll stop giving two automatic wins to Dallas and NY.
Could make the NFC East more competitive in 2 years
A more competitive NFC East would affect us. Could make losing that one bad game a year more costly.
