Keith Brooking has a short memory
Did everyone catch Keith Brooking crying to the Vikings sideline after the Vikes scored a late TD on a 4th down play at the end of their blowout? Our pals at Daily Norseman recapped it if you did miss it...
Both Cowboys coach Wade Phillips and Brooking accused the Vikings of "running up the score" (as if there is such a thing at the pro level.)
"I thought it was classless," Brooking said. "I thought it was B.S. Granted, we get paid to stop them, but we had zero timeouts left. I didn't think there was any call for that."
Classless you say? Hey Keith do you remember way back to week 17 of this year? Sheil Kapadia of Philly.com does...
With about 2:30 left in that game, the Cowboys faced a 4th-and-2 from the Eagles' 35-yard line. They were up, 24-0 (the exact point differential in yesterday's game before the final TD). Dallas could have easily taken a knee and given the Eagles' offense the ball back with 2:20 left(note or attempted a long FG - JB), but Tony Romo dropped back and looked for a receiver before getting sacked by Juqua Parker.
As Sheil points out, Mr. Brooking was not barking at his QB or coach about how that call was "BS" or "classless."
Oh and I don't remember any Eagles crying about it after the game either.

You guys stopped them, and they couldn’t stop us. So it’s all our fault for being mean to them. Or something.

Oh, I can’t stand this clown. That stupid speech he does to gets the defense all fired up is so annoying.

There are very few players in the NFL who can yell and scream about how “WE GONNA HIT ’EM IN THE MOUTH” and actually sound like a badass. Keith Brooking is not such a player. A certain gentleman currently playing safety for the Broncos, OTOH, is.

I guess we are guilty of hypocrisy when it comes to our sports teams (getting in a huff about things that other players and teams do that our team and player are also guilty of i.e. Brooking) but Brooking is being such a whiny sore loser. Its not the fact that the Vikings “ran up the score.” Brooking is pissed at how badly the Cowboys played, plain and simple, but isn’t man enough to give the Viking the credit they deserve for handling Dallas so effectively. While I was horribly frustrated with the Eagles and felt that they really shot themselves in the foot through their Playoff game with Dallas I have no problem admitting that Dallas out-coached us and were nothing less than dominant. They deserve the credit, as much as it pains me to say it.
I just hate how this fourth grade drama crap becomes to focus of the game when its all said and done. As much as Brooking might like us all to focus on this meaningless, not to mention, non existent issue (because there is no such thing as “running up the score” in the NFL), the fact of how badly the Boys got their asses whooped continues to be the blaring point of importance to me!
Hey Brooking, how about you be man enough to admit that your team sucked and the Vikes played well. Friggen cry baby!

It reminds me of the quote of Jimmy Johnson when he “ran up the score” against Nebraska when he was coaching the U. Something along the lines of “I only coach my team, I have no control over how well or poorly the other team plays.”
Great job, Jason!
After reading that, I have to wonder if Brad Childress called Andy Reid after yesterday’s game and said, “That last touchdown was for you, man.”

Gonzo are you seriously trashing Ware?
if so then you are not much of a sports fan. That guy is a beast and a heck of a good guy. He got hurt the same way when trying to sack Rivers. This time it was Farve ducking down quick and he jammed his head and neck. Be thankful Farve is still quick enough to drop like that or he would ’ve been drilled.

I saw the Dallas news had a story about this season being a step in the right direction
Is that really the case though? I mean they certainly trounced us and got the 15 year drought off their backs, but i dont know if i would say getting completely blown out in divisional game that many thought they could win is a step in the right direction.
If you ask me, its still the same old Dallas, just with a difference in timing on when they imploded
I'd rather be an Eagles fan till the day i die and go 0-16 every year than be a cockroach cowboys fan
so I'm confused...
if Dallas can’t call this a step in the right direction, than what was Philly’s season? Y’all went to the Championship game last year, but lost in the Wild Card Round this year. So is Philly a team in decline?

I think we took a step back as a team, but we also got younger.
So if I had to put a term to it I would say this year was a reloading season because good teams don’t rebuild. Unfortunately, after how our defense played against you guys we might have to reload our defense next year.
I think the cowboys are going to be good next year and playoff experience is valuable so I think that they did take a step in the right direction, but you also might be losing your OC to the Bills from what ive read and your oline is getting very old so we will see.
ok this gets old
but we also got younger
The oldest team in the lead has a avg age near 28 and the youngest 26.12 or something …..I don’t see how you all are that much younger….I believe you were 9th on the list and Dallas 15 or 16 I think . So do you really feel you’re that much younger than all the other teams? Most teams get rid of the veterans salary each year and go for young. Its been this way for years now so there isnt a real old team in this league.

Cowboys offensive line
is upping the average age of the whole team. When are they going to address that?
We fans have been asking this for a long time.....
for some reason we don’t draft OL high. Its odd but who knows what Jerry is thinking. I guess since he got lucky in the past with guys that it will always work. We were going for a lineman this year but he went 2 spots before our pick so they didnt get a lineman at that spot. I think it was Unger but dont quote me on that.

I see your point
but I’m just saying that if i was a dallas fan there would be NO silver lining in this season from me
I'd rather be an Eagles fan till the day i die and go 0-16 every year than be a cockroach cowboys fan
If I were a Dallas fan, I’d…well, I’d be a bandwagon hopper like so many other folks in York County, but I digress.
If I were a Dallas fan, I think I’d feel pretty much like I felt as an Eagles fan last year. Great memories of crushing your hated rival in an elimination game, and getting farther in the playoffs than you’d gotten in years.
I’d be really disappointed — really, really disappointed, furious even — with the ending, but I don’t know how you can’t say it isn’t a step forward.
Didn’t make the playoffs last year, hadn’t won a playoff game in 13 years.
But, kind of like Eagles’ fans frustration with the Reid/McNabb era is more than just an overreaction to this year’s playoff results, but the failure to win it all after being so close for so much of this decade; Dallas had a great shot in ’07 to win it all, missed opportunities last season, and this year seemed like the hot team.
Did the Eagles take a step back?
In one sense, yes, definately. Losing earlier in the playoffs. But, they also had a better regular season. I know that doesn’t mean anything, but the Eagles were in a better position at the end of this season than last year. last year, they just got improbably hot at the right time.
In another sense, no. I don’t think you can ignore the impact of injuries on this season. The Eagles run up an 11-6 record with so many projected key players out of action that despite the bitterness of the ending, I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
That said, IF they decide to move McNabb and go w/Kolb, I expect that next year’s probably a step back in the hope that they go 2 steps forward in 2011 and beyond.
Ok this gets old and
I’d be a bandwagon hopper like so many other folks in York County, but I digress.
Didn’t you all have a post here saying you wish all this would stop? the name calling , the 13 year playoff drought, the never won a superbowl, the cant win in december? I remember a post here and everyone praised it including myself. Yet its some of you that keep resorting back to this nonsense.
Dallas cleared 2 big mental hurdles this year. And that IMO is huge when it comes to getting a monkey off your back. The played well in Dec. and won a playoff game. Is that all they wanted to do to succeed this year? Well no , cause the Superbowl is the reason you play and there are no concessions to getting close. They took a step foward but that’s not saying much. Win a Superbowl and the season was a success, lose in the playoffs and your in like most teams with a decent season looking for answers.

Dubious, I’m sorry. I started typing, “If I were a Dallas fan…” and couldn’t resist the joke. I didn’t mean to call anyone specific out, especially you, and if you saw the sports fans in my town you’d probably agree. But, still it was not furthering the discussion and so I apologize. I’m glad to be rid of most of the Cowboys fans that were coming here over the last two weeks, but you’ve been refreshingly un-gloaty and it’s appreciated.
And the rest of my post was meant to be complimentary toward the Cowboys, actually. I don’t how they CAN’T have been considered to take a big step forward, but I can see why the badness of the ending might not have assuaged a Cowboys fan’s frustration with, say, wade phillips. (I assume there’s a Romo-bashing contingent of Cowboys fans, too, even if it’s a minority?)
nah Romo had a bad game but
we all saw what happens when a OL is abused in a game. When he has time he is deadly, in games like yesterday he is trash like most QB’s with no time. Our line is a problem thats preetty obvious no matter what some homers might say.

That always blew my mind. I only spent a few years there, but because of where it is located they have arguably 3 “home” teams they could root for (Eagles, Steelers & Ravens) yet there are a few that chose a team thousands of miles away.

I’d say it might be a step in the right direction for Dallas, but they still have a lot of problems… one of them being the senior citizens they have playing on the O-line, with no solid backups in place. (Free got dominated).
That o-line is only going to go down from here. Other than that though, they have some young talent in place, like us.
As a Boys fan- these comments by Brooking embarassed me
It’s professional football, stop them or go home. While I think it isn’t in the best taste to score, as the writer attributed in this post mentioned, we did the same thing to y’all just a week prior.

I think Brooking’s been a good leader for the Dallas D, on a team where it seemed like leadership may have been lacking in the past, but he’s just looking like a whiner here.
The whole “firing up the team before the game thing” is one of those thing’s that’s annoying when the guy on the other team does it, but awesome when Brian Dawkins did it, so that doesn’t really bother me.
Shut your piehole
Never understand why athletes make these kind of points especially when his team had just done something similar just 2 weeks ago. This is professional sports and it wasn’t like Minnesota player did some kind of personal taunting/behavior that was clearly not appropriate.
Shut your piehole Brookings.
I think it's worse
Because by going to yell at the coach of the Vikes and the press, he’s like the kid who gets picked on and goes to the Bully’s parents to ask that the bully quit picking on him.
Unbelievable
Majority of BTB is crying about how classless it was. The game is played for 60 minutes. If you don’t like getting scored on, just stop them. It’s really just as simple as that.
Brooking is a shmuck...
Him crying like a little baby just made him look like a bitch.
Brooking, your team did the same thing the week before. The only difference is the Eagles stopped ’em. Shut up and get a clue.

We got our butts kicked 2 weekends in a row by the same team, and the only talk coming out of Eagle land was that WE sucked and needed to improve. no crying about getting the score run up on you, because as Brooking said, they get paid to friggin stop them!
Chase Utley is so good that on one pitch he stole second, third and the shortstop's hat.

I couldn’t stand how everyone was jumping on their bandwagon. After reading the story above, it makes it even sweeter that my Vikes scored on that 4th down.

pat williams from the vikings said the same thing, that he didnt hear any of the eagles complaining the last two weeks after the cowboys ran the score up on them.
Dallas ran the score up on the Eagles?
they scored in the middle of the third in both game and none in the 4th. So why would you even say they ran up the score? They didn;t do anything in the 4th at all in both games. They basically shut down.
Williams needs to watch more games and get more knowledge before throwing out idotic comments. Do any of you feel this in the Minn game is the same as aany of the Eagles game?

Read JasonB's original post
and the article he linked to. Dallas tried a pass play with 2:30 left in the final regular season game. It didn’t work, but they were still gunning.
Until I read that
I didn’t feel like Dallas ran the score up on us, I felt like they got a big lead then properly milked the clock out … both times.
But whatever. The only thing that annoyed me was Miles Austin celebrating every catch (and there were a lot of them) and Mike Jenkins gyrating to every good play he made like it was his first … but even those fall in the category of ‘you don’t like it, then outplay them’

Trying to make yourself feel better by imagining some moral superiority after getting your butt whipped is classless, and pathetic.
No one has mentioned the fact that the Vikings had Rice, Berrian, and Harvin, our top three receivers, on the bench during the Shiancoe touchdown. Shiancoe was out there with the JV squad, and he was the only one of three receivers open. If you can’t cover that, and you leave the Vikings on a short field, then it’s just too bad you get a cheap score on you.
I put some other things to consider, like why the Cowboys didn’t punt, and why they dragged the game out with incomplete shotgun passes and burned all their time outs, on the BTB page.
Would anyone think the Cowboys hadn’t been completely owned if the final score was 27-3?
Nope.
Good luck Eagles fans, next year. The High Road is always best. It’s only a game, after all.

Btw Farve was out there on the play and he acted as if they had just won the game on that play. Just seems the Vikes would have had him off the field being smart but maybe they needed that score for the media who knows. They won’t tell why and I don’t care. The score was 34-3 and they won cause they scored one more point than we did :)

Making my point for me about delicate psyches. Go ahead, reply again, and keep making it. If my team got annihilated, I’d feel bad about it, but I wouldn’t spend my time whining about a late touchdown and defending a d-bag like Keith Brookings, either.
I’m not making a big deal about the Shiancoe touchdown. I was surprised when I heard that anybody questioned the Vikings “running up the score”, and never noticed Brookings on the sidelines, either. In all my years watching football, I’ve never seen so much ado about a nothing touchdown in garbage time.
It just strikes me as hilarious that you are criticizing Favre for pumping his fist on his own sidelines when he wins a divisional playoff game, and, apparently, giving Brookings a pass for taunting the Vikings on their own sidelines being obviously a poor sport and a sore loser.
Poor loser? Whining?
If someone gives an opinion about a play its always called whining from the opposition. Would it be whining if I attacked the play as a Colts fan? Well then it would be looked at different, but since I am a Cowboy fan than it must be whining. You seem very defensive cause others have opinions. Mine differs from yours, and that’s ok. I like for teams not to score useless TD’s at the end of the game. Its only my opinion and nothing more than that.
In all my years watching football, I’ve never seen so much ado about a nothing touchdown in garbage time.
See pats 2007, heck even watch the end of the Cowboy game against the packs, again going for a field goal at the end for a record was classless and guess what my team did that. I stand by my beliefs do you? I will call my team out for being bone heads as I will opposing teams.

Did you even watch the game? He threw the touchdown, put both arms in the air and ran over to several players and while jumping – body bumped. Again , its a laughable arguement we are having but can’t you atleast know what he did before critizing my opinion of his actions?

I did watch the game...
Whatever, he was celebrating on his own sidelines, with his own team, whatever he did. He wasn’t in a single Cowboy’s face celebrating. He didn’t taunt anyone. After he scored, he turned to his own sidelines and celebrated. He didn’t even see Brookings come up behind him.
I also watched him shake hands with the Romo and others after the game.
I’m willing to bet I’ve watched Brett Favre play at least as much as you have, and probably more. Twice a year at minimum, and most often more than that. I’ve never seen him do a classless thing in one single game.
Brett Favre did the same thing at the end of that game, or after scoring, that he’s been doing for almost 20 years now. It was a particularly big game, and he’s an emotional guy. I would have thought everyone knew that by now. I know it can drive you nuts when he beats you, but so what? I’ve never seen anyone on the opposing team call him classless before. Maybe it has happened, but I’m not aware of a general sentiment that Brett Favre is a classless player.
Almost 20 years of being a respected player counts much more, in my book, that Keith Brookings pathetic little rant.
I’ve never seen Favre taunt the other team on their sidelines. Brookings is lucky no one ripped his head off. It should have drawn a flag to be on the Vikes sidelines like that.
If his defense can’t cover Shiancoe + the Vikings JV squad, to make the score LOOK respectable, that’s just too damn bad.
ok I am laughing at myself for argueing with you
we need our own blog lol
If his defense can’t cover Shiancoe + the Vikings JV squad, to make the score LOOK respectable, that’s just too damn bad
are you calling your starting line and starting TE and starting QB and Taylor a JV squad? I thought a jv squad was all 2nd or 3rd string. Maybe I am missing your point here but starters aren’t JV to me.
On the rest , I can say he looked silly cause that didn’t mean anything to the game. If you read I didn’t say he showed up the Cowboys , I said he acted as if that touchdown had won the game. Get it now? I still think he looked silly. Kinda like the players who spike the ball when they score a touchdown and celebrate, while their team is being blown out. Again its a trash TD and means nothing to the game’s outcome.

By JV, it means they had...
Rice, Berrian, and Harvin on the bench. The receivers were Tahi, the fullback, Lewis, the Viking’s 4th WR, and Shiancoe.
If the Vikings were calling plays to run it up, wouldn’t you put your starting WR in the game?
But at any rate, peace. It just seems to me to be silly for criticizing a team on “style points”, whatever your opinion.
I only vaguely remember the Packers- Cowboys game, and the Patriots game. I remember the Patriots game as being somewhat egregious, but honestly I still thought it was much ado about nothing.
Favre has never done anything classless...
Except screwing over Mark Gastineau and the Jet’s fanbase by letting Strahan get a sack to match his single season record. Or by holding the Packers franchise hostage for 3+ years with the whole “will he retire or won’t he?”. Or changing the offense around to what he wants, regardless of what his coach thinks. Or calling out his head coach(both with the Viks and the Packers), the ownership(the whole Randy Moss situation in GB?). Or wait, how about signing with the Packers bitter rival, especially because everyone knew that he wanted to do that LAST year? If I saw the likes of Aikman or even Romo celebrating in the Redskins or Eagles locker room, I would literally be sick to my stomach, so I can’t imagine how the Packers fans feel about this.
But no, Brett Favre is not a classless player…
I'll live and die with number 9....

What do you expect from a bunch of losers. Then people wonder why the team is called dallas cryboys. Every year this team has to cry about something because they cant except that they were beaten by a better team. Like someone said after the game if you did not want them to score, then do something about it. Just because the cryboys quit during the game does not mean that the vikings need to quit also. Remember the bills in the superbowl when you all beat them by 30pts. you did not see them crying about having the score run up on them. The cryboys were just overrated and there fans choose not to believe it. Well pack up your jersys and other items and just wait to next year because cryboys will not make playoffs because with a coach like that you will be staying home next year to.
this article is 100% correct
I was saying this same thing over at BTB yesterday. I was also thinking this morning I bet when the Vikings were pounding the Giants that they didn’t feel bad for the Giants getting beat up on. It’s just crazy that the Cowboy players and fans think there should be a double standard for them because they all think they are “America’s Team” It’s funny just thinking of how they think they are above/better then anyone else.
If anything their the classless team and fans for thinking that they don’t deserve this kind of treatment or to think that a team should ease up and not play a full game because they can’t bring it for that certain game.
As a Viking fan...
I will verify that I didn’t feel bad when we were pounding the Giants. I also never heard anyone on the Giants or any Giants fans, or anyone in the media, suggesting the Vikings were classless for putting 44 on the board vs. the Giants. That game was 41-0 before the final 44-7 score.
The Giants put a 41-0 hurt on the Vikings in the NFC Championship game in 2000. I don’t recall anyone complaining about that.
exactly my point
It happens in the NFL almost every week. Some team loses by 24 or 31 points, etc., it just happens and most teams don’t cry about getting the score run up on them, they take it cause it part of the game….most teams except for the Cowboys of course because they all think that they are better and the rules don’t pertain to them.
Even Wade was complaining about it. For christ sake it’s the NFL everyone is real close talent wise it’s not high school or even college where the talent level per team can vary greatly…..it’s the NFL. Someone should send a memo to Wade and Keith about this, give them a little reminder.
As a Giants fan...
I can tell you I was too p.o.ed at the Giants to worry about the Vikings running up the score in the last week of the season. And I wasn’t too upset when the Giants beat the Vikings 41-0 in the 2000 NFC championship game either. :-)
But seriously, not once did I think, “Why they heck are they trying to score?” It was more like, “Why the &*^% can’t we stop them?”
I was to p.o.ed...
to even watch the 2nd half in the 2000 NFC championship game. I found something else to do that got my mind off of that sorry performance by the Vikings. I discovered the Giants were a much, much, much better team that day, and it was time to move on.
Getting bitch-slapped every so often is a part of life. It happens to me when I’m not watching football, too :) It keeps me grounded.
For Cowboys fans, obviously they need a few more years of their team getting abused before they get grounded. Maybe meditate a bit. Try buddhism in the off season perhaps. Your Sundays are open now.
But, gotta soak it in when you’re the one doing the bitch-slapping (or at least enjoying watching who’s doing it).
That's definitely just a difference
in personalities. Some people blame their own team, some blame the other guys:
But seriously, not once did I think, "Why they heck are they trying to score?" It was more like, "Why the &*^% can’t we stop them?"
For all the hate people put on Philly because we don’t always show our own team the proper appreciation, the thing I love about the fanbase is its genuine. We’re not pretending we’re happy with your effort when it sucks, and we’re not going to cry about the other guy scoring too much when you didn’t stop them.
It’s not better or worse, I guess, just different. But I def. couldn’t imagine the Philly fanbase being up in arms about this. We usually look to our own guys’ inadequacies first
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
so someone scores 44 in a game, I am ok with that
the thing they didnt do was try and score more in the final minutes when the game was a non issue. We scored 34 on the Eagles but DIDINT score again in the final period in a half. So your arguement is nothing like what I think and that is no reason to score in the final minutes of a blowout.

A Dallas retort full of crap
If my team was advancing to the NFC Championship I wouldn’t be on other teams sports blog talking about something that made no difference in the game. The game was already over yet you act as if they needed that score. Your team won the game , be proud and get over it. If you lose next week you’re right where all of us Coboy fans are and thinking about next week.
One more? 31 more….with all of the crap coming from Dallas last week you wonder why there’s animosity…and too think Brookings was the only cryboy!
in all may days plays sports and thats about
29 years worth …….I could have sworn if a team scores more than you then you win the game. Correct me if I am wrong but if the score was 4-3 wouldn’t they have still won? I think my math is right. Again , I have my opinion and and you have yours. Its ok to disagree…..I disagree with Philly fans on here alot but I still like them as a person. If you need to win by 31 then I am happy for you but one point more than the opposition is fine with me :)

Another key detail
Michael Wilbon mentioned this in a chat today:
Wade Phillips called timeouts on three consecutive plays with six minutes to play in that game. You call timeouts in the fourth quarter, it tells the opposing team you’re still playing ….. you’ve conceded nothing.
FWIW.

The answer to the question is always the right one in this case.......
everyone has a feeling on this and no one is wrong. Simply put if you feel a offense should run the score up then your opinion is not wrong. If I feel a offense shouldn’t run a score up, then I too am not wrong. Some look at it as bad sportsmanship, some look at it as a killer instinct. Cool thing is we all have opinions and none are facts in this case as its a feeling and a belief. So to say someone is right or wrong about their opinion on the play is utter nonsense.

non-issue
The only reason we are talking about this is because of Brooking’s childish actions. If he doesn’t act like a baby, then it really wouldn’t even matter.
And the play before driving his forearm into the guys throat was real classy as well. He is a sore loser, plain and simple.
