Donovan McNabb likely headed to pro bowl

With wins by the Vikings and Saints this weekend, at least one of Drew Brees or Brett Favre will be going to the superbowl. Both were pro bowlers this year, and since that game is held the week before the Superbowl this year, one won't be playing and the first alternate will be named to the team to play in his place.

The first alternate is Donovan McNabb. So unless he declines the invitation, this will be McNabb's sixth pro bowl.

Sheldon Brown, who is a second alternate, also has a shot to be named to the team after Arizona CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie may have torn knee ligaments in his team's loss over the weekend.

Unless there is some injury we don't know about

He’ll play. McNabb is not one to decline a Pro Bowl invitation.

Well, as least McNabb get to throw to DeSean Jackson one more time before he is traded!

Lmao, sorry, had to. Don’t want to start a debate or anything.

Please explain

how McNabb going to the Pro Bowl makes his trade value higher?

What should worry the Eagles is that with the Jets making the AFC Title game with a rookie QB, following on with Flacco last year and Ryan looking good that teams know they can win with a rookie QB – so who needs a veteran QB (yes the Vikings did but that was the Childress connection).

The Eagles will get offers for Kolb and the GM has a tough call to make – do you give McNabb one last chance or is it time to move on.

by G Fan in England on Jan 18, 2010 8:05 AM EST up reply actions

how did matt stafford do?

or josh freeman?
or matt ryan this year?
or flacco this year?
would u trust matt leinart next year if warner retires?
would u trust tav jackson or sage if favre gives it up again?
who is going to start for the browns next season?
is matt hasselbeck going to be healthy enough to throw a pass next season?
who would bet on anyone thinking that ryan fitzpatrick is the answer in buffalo?
do you think jason campbell is the future of the redskins?
who the hell knows whats going to that batshit crazy mind of al davis? id bet its not starting bruce gradkowsky next season opener.
how much longer will bulger be in st louis?

with all of these questions (first 4 directed to teams drafting and starting rookies) regarding the qb position, i am glad that the eagles are in the position that they are in, having such a surplus of talent at the qb position where the grass is always greener during the offseason

I absolutely decline to offer my opinion on or read any posts about the McNabb v. Kolb debacle. Those posts never end and I choose to sit back and wait to see what happens. This is going to be a long offseason.

by BadCo'09 on Jan 18, 2010 2:44 PM EST up reply actions

Why not list all his

player of the week awards!

Interestingly enough Eli had better a better QB rating, better TD to Int ratio, better comp % and nearly the same average per attempt.

So Eli is worth more in a trade than McNabb plus he is younger.

by G Fan in England on Jan 18, 2010 5:39 PM EST up reply actions

well Eli is better then

is that what you want to hear?

RIP Jim Johnson. You will truly be missed.

by Igglesfan13 on Jan 18, 2010 5:45 PM EST up reply actions

No

I am just trying to say that the way the league is going ie towards young QB’s (Henne at the Dolphins is another one) that the market for veteran QB’s is very limited.

The Browns, Seahawks and Bills have new coaches who will be given time to suceed in which case they draft for their QB for years to come – not take an old guy.

McNabb for whatever reason has not got the Eagles over the hurdle despite all his chances the last decade.

A team built to win now wants a QB that will get them over the hurdle and McNabb has not shown he can do that.

This is no knock on McNabb just because he is an Eagle, more trying to see it as a GM or Coach thinking I am nailing my flag to his mask to keep my job!

by G Fan in England on Jan 18, 2010 5:52 PM EST up reply actions

So what you're saying is...you're ready to trade Eli?

I don’t think the G-men are offering. If either is on the block, it’s likely to be McNabb.

glad for Sheldon Brown

of course, it sucks that such a young talented player in Cromartie is gunna have to do rehab and w.e but I’m happy for Brown

He really turned his level of play up after what happened in the offseason… He got a career high in INT’s, played all 16 games again, despite being pretty injured down the stretch, and may have earned himself his first pro bowl game

we had 44-6
you had 58-14
now we want an eagles SuperBowl win in Dallas next season

I do not see how mcnabb should be going to the pro bowl unless they need someone to hold tablet on the sideline. He is the most overrated quarterback in the league and I want the nfc to win I dont want someone in there that will choke. I hope he declines thinvitation.

Why do

you think he is over rated?

I think he is a very good fit for how the Giants want to play football – he may not be a good fit for the Eagles, but then again McNabb would not be a good fit for the Giants.

Eli is a good QB who had a good season despite the carnage of a defence which meant he was put in obivious passing situations.

I would not say he is better than Peyton, Brees, Romo and even people like Schaub.

…it was Kolb going to the Ravens for some authentic Maryland crab cakes and a throwback Cal Ripken Jr. jersey.

...But if he pulls the rug on his quarterback, Reid must do it knowing that he let McNabb down more than McNabb ever let him down.

Good For Him

Another chance for me to take shots at the McNabb haters. Did Phillip Rivers choke in Big games? His playoff Recd is nothing to write home about, couldn’t even beat a rookie QB, this is the idiotic rationale I always hear about McNabb. I’m glad he’s going to his 6th pro bowl, and for the idiots saying McNabb should decline the invitation, it just shows that the underlining reason for hating him has a bit to do with the color of his skin. Why in the world would anyone want a professional football player to decline an invitation to the pro bowl? (unless they are playing in the SB). Many people don’t want success for McNabb and that’s a shame, you guys whine when he smiles, you bitch about the way he celebrates before the game and then complain that he’s accepting a pro bowl invitation? Seriously? You guys are pathetic, anyone that has a problem with him playing in Miami needs to get a freaking life.

by Qu1nTeR on Jan 18, 2010 12:30 PM EST up reply actions

How did your boy Rivers do against a rookie QB?

Using your Rationale Payton Manning will also be dismissed as a chump, he is below 500 in the playoffs thus cannot lead the Eagles. You’re the moron my friend as clearly stated by Qu1nter. No QB could lead this years Eagles deep in the playoffs. They simply didn’t have the personnel this year (too much injury), but morons like you blame it on McNabb. I have no blind devotion towards anyone but people like you seems to find the slightest reason to blame #5, and I will continue to call you out when you do. The standards applied to McNabb by folks like you is unattainable, what has Phillip Rivers done in the post season? using your rationale, I suppose Sanchez is better than Rivers since his team won? I guess Sanchez can win big games and Rivers can’t?
