Eagles Receive 4th-Round Draft Compensation for Sheppard Deal
Last offseason, the Eagles shipped CB Lito Sheppard (pictured, #26) to the New York Jets in exchange for a 5th-round Draft pick and a conditional selection in the 2010 Draft. Of course, the Birds expended that 5th-round pick received in last year’s Draft, but they were uncertain what round the conditional pick was going to be for. Today, news surfaced and it was revealed that the league will reward a 4th-round compensation pick to the Eagles from the Sheppard deal (translation=the Eagles got a 4th-round pick in the trade from last year, and today learned that the other one received will be a 4th-rounder).
The round of the conditional selections is determined because of various factors, including how many games and how productive the player traded is in his season(s) with his new team. In Sheppard’s case, the once-stud defensive back managed to play in only 11 games and finished with 31 tackles and only one interception. And while a 4th-round Draft pick is certainly reasonable, the Birds just may have been able to get as high as a 2nd-rounder with better production from the Jet.

thanks 4 tha info .........
after watching our secondary the last couple weeks i couldnt help but think of Litoooooo,
after all he was a COWBOY KILLER, but no seriously he looked like shit this year, who knows maybe he woulda played better in Philly or maybe not. Bottom line im happy with wat we got for him.
people in the lower half of the draft imo work so much harder then the 1st round
Desean Jackson- Im Number 1, the real deal, The 1(0)ne to Watch.
Interview while at Cal.

Where is the link to your information. I was under the impression that we dont get anything unless the Jets pay him a 10 mil bonus and he meets play time requirements. Is this a pick from the nfl?
I think that was to get the 2nd rounder
They needed to give him some crazy extension and he’d need to make the Pro Bowl, etc.
We’d always have gotten some comp for him, but to get a really high pick, some unlikely sh#t had to happen.
I think this is great news
the draft is going to be deep this year, rounds 1-3 is going to be full of “superstars” while the later rounds will be full of jewels ready to break out.
thats Cobb on Kolb crime if you ask me... as said by yophillybro
If I understand the deal correctly, Tannenbaum may have pulled a fast one on the Eagles with this trade
The Eagles only get the conditional pick if the Jets pay pay Sheppard a $10 million option bonus on 11 March 2010.
Scout.com’s Adam Caplan reported a while back that the Jets are not expected to exercise Sheppard’s offseason roster bonus. Thus, Sheppard will likely head to unrestricted free agency in 2010, and the Eagles would not get the conditional pick.
Correct me if I’m wrong.

Yeah, that’s what I thought as well – I don’t think we have the 4th rounder locked up at all yet. kingmcnabb, you have a link for this?
As for the “pulling a fast one” thing, I’m sure the Eagles knew full well what all the possibilities were. Lito had very, very little trade value when they finally dealt him.
Okay
It would have been nice to get more than what will likely turn out to be a late 4th round pick (because the Jets’ record). It is hard to get a player this far down in the draft who contributes much in the 1st year.
Macho was a 5th, and Fokou was a 7th…
Not that they were fantastic or anything, but they both contributed a lot first year
"EFF YOU, WE'RE WINNING ANYWAY!!!!!!" (Bye, Dawk)
Others drafted in the 4th/5th rounds...
Trent Cole – 5th
Brent Celek – 5th
Todd Herremans – 4th
Asante Samuel – 4th
Those guys are pretty good.
pick
caplan said we wouldnt be getting any pick because lito didnt play enough to reach any of the incentives for an additional pick.
"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."
