Sheldon Brown… gotta love the guy. I think, regardless if he is here next year, I will get a Brown jersey next. He was everything you want in a football player. Corners who can cover 1 on 1, and also tackle/hit like safties do not grow on trees.

Agree

There’s got to be some kind of middle ground that he and the FO can come to.

We need to pay him

Because he’s reliable, a professional, a hard worker, and never ever ever misses a game.

We need to pay him even if we don’t extend him. Give him more money ASAP.

They should move him to Safety

He knows the system, and also has the ability to cover.

And,

Remember this from this season: http://www.philadelphiaeagles.com/news/Story.asp?story_id=19489&print=yes

Great quotes in there from Sheldon and the kind of guy you want on the team.

PAY THE MAN!!

Sheldon had been a true lockdown corner, and has earned a contract extension IMO. We’ve been very fortunate to have a string of lockdown corners ever since Eric Allen.

"Backs in the 'I'...First and 10...McNabb, play action. Is back again. He is looking..he is going deep. He wants DeSean Jackson..who HAS IT!!! HE HAS IT!!! AND STEPPED INTO THE ENDZONE!! He took it away from the defender!! He took it away from Dominique Rogers-Cromarte, and ran into the endzone!!"

Sheldon Brown is the best player in the Eagles secondary

I’ll take lockdown cover corners like Sheldon over big play, mediocre tackling and cover corners like Asante Samuel any day of the week.

Vincent, Taylor, Brown, Samuel, Shepard (at least he always came up big against Dallas)

Just to play Devil's advocate

The Eagles have been pretty good when it comes to cutting ties with older vets who are close to hitting the proverbial wall, even when those vets were well liked by the fanbase (see Vincent, Troy and Taylor, Bobby).

I for one hope they keep Sheldon, but the money he expects and what the Eagles actually think he is worth as someone who will be 31 years old going into the 2010 season may not be that close. If nothing else, we could really use his veteran leadership in the secondary next year though, regardless.

Class Act

2010 Plan: Take BWest’s $11.1Mil – beef up Sheldon’s $2.8Mil and Sign Avant and Weaver.

by andyreidswaistline on Jan 10, 2010 9:44 PM EST reply actions

That's just tough.

Sheldon needs to be resigned. If that line of exceptional character and quality is to still run through our secondary, it runs through him.
Avant has developed into a reliable third-down receiver who is exactly where you need him to be when you need him to be there – and won’t shy away from a ball because a hit is coming.
Weaver – Weaver is one of the primary reasons we had as good a season as we did. He’s like the fullback version of healthy Westbrook. Need to resign him.

But dropping BWest. Looking at his face after the loss. I know the injuries and the Eagles history with veterans, however loved, but Do It for Dawkins is Do It for Westbrook now. I wish the front office could find a way to give these guys non-standard contracts. Really low base salary with a ton of incentives and escalators, for the point of keeping the leadership on the team without overpaying for guys who are clearly not what they used to be. I absolutely hated to see Dawkins go without a ring, and BWest the same. His run through the NFL as an undersized back with injury problems to how incredible he has been – and never a word about it, just business and leadership.

by rockaintdeadyet on Jan 11, 2010 4:29 AM EST up reply actions

At the end of the day – BWest is on the books fo $11.1Mil next season, as it stands currently. Slice it anyway you want but I don’t see a scenario where he collects this from us.

Not crazy

About the Eagles signing Brown to a lengthy extension to play CB. Wouldn’t mind seeing him play 1 year at CB and then get shifted over FS potentially.

How the Eagles choose to address the FS position this year is likely going to greatly affect Sheldon’s future with the team.

by MG77 on Jan 11, 2010 5:43 AM EST reply actions

i agree 2 a certain extent..............

i would love 2 hav sheldon back but at FS, he really showed his cover skills are declining in the cowboys games, he still can hit like a truck tho.

by goldenbird09 on Jan 12, 2010 11:06 AM EST up reply actions

I hope his attitude doesn't change.

I don’t see us getting rid of him, but honestly its not very often our FO will rework someones contract with more than two years on it. I see him making it through the 2010 season and then getting his contract re-worked, depending on his production. He’s supposed to be making around $500K less in 2010 than he has this year… so hopefully him and the FO can figure something out. I definitely want to keep him around for awhile.
