Mays, Herremans Out for Week One

It was widely assumed after examination showed a stress reaction in his foot, that left guard Todd Herremans would miss a few weeks, including the opener. Now, it appears he isn't the only Eagle who will be missing out on the week one matchup against the Carolina Panthers. This morning, Bo Wulf of PE.com reported that backup middle linebacker Joe Mays will also be out of the action due to a shoulder sprain.

Backing up Herremans will be the up-and-coming Nick Cole, who will be himself backed up by Max Jean-Gilles. Cole did a decent job of filling in at right guard towards the end of last season, and should continue his good performance this year for as long as Herremans is out. Andy Reid has been quoted as saying that he "has the utmost confidence in both players."

Backing up Omar Gaither at MLB will be strongside starter Chris Gocong. In the event that Gocong sees reps at MLB, rookie Moise Fokou will replace him at SAM.

Hmm, I guess I’m surprised that Fokou isn’t the backup Mike.

Same

Maybe this is a preview of their plan if Gaither doesn’t perform. I think Gocong could handle the middle.

Whaaat?

Have they even run Gocong in the middle during a game?? If so, did he look OK?

I really don’t like putting this much defensive responsibilities on rookies

agree

I think it’s crazy how a rookie is filling the shoes of Brian Dawkins.

dawkins

he was old.. i would take the rookie with upside than the aging vet

by jack is better than asante on Sep 9, 2009 3:35 PM EDT up reply actions

he was old? aging vet? how bet emotional leader and face of the franchise for the last decade. your lack of appreciation for the greatest philadelphia sports player ever disgusts me. No way a college CB moved to safety, no matter how young, is better than Dawkins this year.

by McClintock on Sep 9, 2009 7:30 PM EDT up reply actions

yes

dawkins was old .. he is old i mean .. hes fading .. he was great .. was being the key term .. a demps macho combo will give us better results and we saved 5 mil .. smart move by eagles .. and best philadelphia sports player of all time? no way! i love dawk .. but hes not even top 5 saftey of all time .. theres someone named wilt chamberlin .. allen iverson is a first ballot hof and one of the most prolific scorers in nba history .. mike scmidt? bobby clarke? steve carlton .. jim bunning .. come on now ..

Macho is the man

Besides its not like demps was playing lights out.He talked a great game but thats where it ended.ALso i really dislike demps as a player and a person.

Andy Reid mentioned it in today’s press conference. Check the Bloghead and scroll down a bit.

No biggy

MJG is more then up for it, and according to a previous post hes pumped about this game. He’s as good as Todd and Mays is a 2nd stringer- we’ll be just fine fellas

RIP JJ

max is better than him ..max is a pro bowl caliber guard .. fuckin reid .. start max and demps .. stupid decesions .. play the most talented players and let them make plays

I’m not that worried. Reid seems to know what he’s doing with O-linemen. Thats one position group I tend to trust his judgement.

Let the beasting begin.

well MJG is coming back from a fractured ankle maybe Cole out played him for now.

i dont

what makes him such an expert .. i prob watch as much football as he does .. andy reid is a good coach who Jim johnson made great ..

by jack is better than asante on Sep 9, 2009 6:24 PM EDT up reply actions

expert?

Your first post upset me but this is just funny. I have no love for andy reid but, What makes him an expert? how bout the fact that he was an offensive line coach before he was a head coach. I agree that Jim Johnson was more responsible for our success over the past 10 years but offensive line is about the only thing where i trust andy’s judgement.

by McClintock on Sep 9, 2009 7:33 PM EDT up reply actions

yea yea

i dont think soo .. how many stud offensive linemen has he hit on? sean andrews ..didnt he inhert tra thomas?

demps? most talented?

most talented at running his mouth.

by snowhill82 on Sep 9, 2009 4:49 PM EDT up reply actions

yeah but he is really REALLY good at that hah. I think the vet Jones (who has the 3rd most interceptions of anyone in the league over the past 3 years) should start over Macho but I’m just glad demps isnt in there.

by McClintock on Sep 9, 2009 7:34 PM EDT up reply actions

I'm a big andy reid supporter but..

I agree. Max is a stud. I’m not a big fan of demps though i think i’d like to see jones at ss and mikell at fs. Macho makes me just as nervous as Demps though.

i love ppl who run their mouths lol demps is the man
