Where I am going to be looking...
It's finally here, no more speculation, or stupid arguments about nothing important. The season starts this week! Our team looks like it has the goods, but we all know that looks are not important. We need the real thing.
Week one isn't going to be easy.
Here are some of my concerns for these up coming weeks and what I will be looking for Sunday...
1. Shawn Andrews: Where has he been? What has he been doing? Is he still depressed? What was he depressed about again? Did he really hurt his back so much during a conditioning drill? For real? We all saw that the Big Kid has the goods, even Billacheat said so himself!! Well he had the goods, at least. Did the addition of his brother (Stacey Andrews) and his former college roommate (J.Peters) help bring him back psychologically? More specifically, can the Big Kid brush off all the rust and handle J. Peppers right off the bat? He said the right things in the paper, but that shit don't impress me though. But we all should know, actions speak louder...
2. J. Peters: What has this guy been doing since signing for all those millions? He didn't look like he has been training from what I saw. When I looked a Tra Thomas, I saw a huge guy that really looked like he was serious about pass blocking. His form was tight and he consistantly produced. I don't know that I see that with our new left tackle. Andy Reid said that Sean Andrews was the best taclke in the league but he played guard. He then said, that Jason Peters, "was the best in the business." So, I guess I shouldn't worry then, we have the 2 best tackles in the league. Does he mean the most talented or the most productive? I would hope he means they are the most productive.
3. Omar "Can't stop the Run" Gaither: Where has he been? Isn't this the same guy that was benched midseason and replaced by A.Jordan? Wasn't he being accused of being too fancy(trying for too many big plays)? He wasn't fufilling his run fits or something? DIdn't our run defense greatly improve when he wasn't playing? Now, I am supposed to believe that days of being a cutie pie are behind him? Why couldn't I see for this for myself during the preseason? Prolly because they thought that he was cute and wanted to see if Mays could do better(Mays didn't look to good IMO).
4. Macho Harris: I don't know anything about him. He played a VT. He burnt himself when he was little. He is our new FS. Replacing Brian Dawkins... What else can I say, I am a little concerned about this. Has anyone else seen Steve Smith consistantly burn anyone trying to guard him? I dunno.
5.Brian "The catalyst" Westbrook: How is he really doing? Has he went full speed in practice? For real, has he really tried to cut someone up and then out run 5 people all at the same time? Really? BWEST is hands down our best player. He is a warrior and someone that I really like to watch. I don't think that we can win the Superbowl without him. Shady McCoy has yet to show me shades of greatness goodness. I've heard what everyone else says about him. I just haven't seen it.
6.Sheldon Brown: Since Ellis Hobbs has come on to the scene I haven't seen much out of Sheldon Brown. He has been injured and all of that I've heard. But I didn't see him in the games. I wasn't really looking for him because he usually has his shit together, but now that I think about it, where has he been? Is he starting opposite Samuel? How has he looked in practice? Is his feelings still hurt from the NFC Championship game(Fittzy)?
7. Sean Mcdermott: He is supposed to be the next big thing. Steve Spags all over again, I knowI know, I have heard all the hype... Can he fill JJ shoes(I know he cannot)? Can he at least hold a candle? Will the Eagles D be as productive as it has been since you know who has been the big boss?
Those were the really the big concerns I have had.
Other things to think about...Opening day hasn't been too good to us if I recall correctly....Our Offense is Hot and Cold...Some play calls will be bizarre....Carolina can run and run...Steve Smith is a beast...Jake D got really lucky with his new contract...
P.S. Does anyone else think that Pickle Juice should be mandatory for opening day? I do. Man, that was sweet, opening day @ Dallas. That was something. I cannot wait until we get to do that again.

I agree that all of these positions are concerns. I always worry about Andrews and whether he’ll make it through the season.
Peters really isn’t a great pass blocker. He’s a run blocking tackle. Pretty much the opposite of Tra.
Omar makes me nervous but when I think about it, I really liked the way he played mlb a couple season ago (although hes no stew)
Macho Harris really scares me. I kinda wanted him to start just because I have really grown to dislike Demps. But he really looked like a rookie in the pre season. I mean he was making plays but you could see rookie mistakes and you would think “hey hes just a rookie he has time to fine tune that stuff” but now he doesnt. Hes bein thrown right in. Baptism by fire.
Westbrook’s health is always a concern but he can be more effectively spelled now with Shady.
Brown doesn’t concern me much. As long as he’s done his boo-hooing.
Honestly I really dont know much about McDermott. They dont show too much in the pre season.
PS Dawkins took the all pickel juice with him.
I forgot to ask if he(Brown) was done crying about his contract too. Thanks for reminding me.
Lets hope Macho works out.
fuck that
brown is our best corner .. is he starting ? how insulting for u to ask that

I haven’t seen him in a minute.
Do you not recall Lito’s disappearing act after crying about his contract and having injuries? I remember it.
I was just asking. Plus every year is a new year and he might have been the best CB last year but this is a new season. We will have to see if he is the best on our team. I think Asante might have a thing or two to say about that.
Brown will start, no doubt. I just think he could be considered a concern for his contract issues, which seem to have been put aside for the season (i hope). Best TACKLING corner on the team, yes. Best overall? nah.

in 2008
his 4.48 YPA (4th in the league last year) and 44% incompletion percentage and 0 TDs argue that he is.
Asante Samual 6.51 YPA 41% incompletion percentage and gave up 3TDs.
Fact is Asante is good, but he’s also flashy and gets more INTs so he appears better. Sheldon Brown is a shutdown corner with stone hands so he gets overlooked. He is easily the best corner on the Eagles.

I agree that Brown allows less touchdowns, which I guess you can argue makes him the better corner. Fact is, he and Samuel are completely different styles of corners and I like that. But I’m a sucker for picks. Brown is underrated and Asante is overrated, those are facts. Asante just has that nose for the ball and the big play ability that win me over. He’s still got my vote.

fuck
fuck asante .. he gambles too much .. he isnt that good .. way over rated .. sheldon is shut down .. with out sheldon our defense isnt very good .. with out asante our d prob gives up less points playing hanson but we get less picks
by jack is better than asante on Sep 9, 2009 6:18 PM EDT up reply actions
eh
idunno about all that. i like hanson but i dont think hed be as effective as samuel. i think hes most effective as a nickelback. plus our d wouldnt give up more points, when asante gets a pick it ENDS the drive. No chance of points. who knows how the drive would turn out if he doesnt pick it off. I see the argument for Brown though, i mean i guess in the fundemental sense he IS the better corner. i’m just a fan of the flashy play asante brings.

OK FUK ASANTE HAHAHAHAH
YEAH SURE , I BET U WERE SAYING THAT WHEN HE TOOK ONE 2 THE HOUSE IN THE VIKING GAME, AND WHEN HE COMPLETELY CHANGED THE MOMENTUM IN THE GIANTS GAME , OK PAL LOL
by goldenbird09 on Sep 11, 2009 12:41 AM EDT up reply actions
WAT??????????????????
How the fuk is Brown our best corner??????………………………i know hes a big hitter and as good a tackling CB there is but dude didnt get his first pick of the season until the last week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its ok 2 have favorite players and all but thats just a ridiculous statement.
Sheldon Brown couldnt carry Asantes jock strap
because you chose not to read everything …
Sheldon Brown 4.48 YPA 44% incompletion percentage and 0 TDs 1 INT
Asante Samuel 6.51 YPA 41% incompletion percentage and 3 TDs 4 INT
So Asante Samuel gives up more than 2 yards per attempt and allows more completions. Yes he has 3 more INTs but that isn’t everything.
Brown scored 0 TDs last year but also gave up 0. Samuel scored 1 TD last year but also gave up 3. Who is really the better corner? Turnovers turn games around very true but so do forced incompletions and yardage.

dumbass
picks mean nothing .. asante gets his by jumping routes and when he misses were fucked .. he gives up big plays .. sheldon is safe .. he would rather play the wr and get an incompletion .. he has given up less tds than asante every year .. sheldon also can tackle. . asante is terreble and ankle dives and leads with his head .. sheldon in a land slide

OK JACKASS
YEAH SHELDON REALLY LOOKED BETTER THEN ASANTE WHEN HE GAVE UP 10 TDS IN A HALF IN THE NFCCG. WHICH ASANTE MADE HUGE PLAYS FOR US TO EVEN GET TO ARIZONA. SURE DOES HE GAMBLE ??? FUK YEA, BUT HIS GAMBLES ARE WORTH IT WHEN HE CHANGES THE MOMENTUM OF A GAME WITH A HUGE PLAY.

HOORAY FOR UR BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YEAH YEAH!!!!!!!!! SO ur boy ( and mine) Sheldon had more picks in the first game than he did all of last year. And i do know that u cant judge a corner by picks but it was great to see Sheldon show he can make plays when the chance comes. One question though my friend………………….HOW THE FUK DID HE NOT SCORE ON THE SECOND PICK??? HE HAD A FREAKIN CONVOY RUNNING WITH HIM. Dont get me wrong i love Sheldon to but its hard to compare him to Samuel because they have different styles.
One things for sure though……………ASANTE AND SHELDON ARE GOING 2 HONOLULU THIS YEAR

You almost never hear about brown
thats why he is underrated.. He is the best run stopping corner(in my opinion) and he only allowed 1 TD last year against FITZ… your an idiot to question whether or not he is a starter.
Topcat, take a chill pill...
…maybe a Xanax or something. The battlefield has been set. It’s the beginning of the campaign. The pieces are all in place. It’s time to wait for the opening game and see the widsom or the futility of Coach Reed and companies shaking and moving. He may not be the best coach in a lot of areas but two things that Big Red does – and does consistently – 1.) gives his players a chance to develop into better players (many take advantage of that, and some don’t), and 2.) responds to weak areas mid-season. When was the last time that you can remember the Eagles having the same weakness at the end of the season as they did at the beginning of the season? (Other than Reno Mahe)
Let’s at least get through the first game before we start whining and booing and calling for Andy and Donavan’s heads. You have some valid concerns, but I guarantee we’ll have other problems to deal with that are completely unforeseen.

I don’t need no Xanax in my life bro. My whole family are drug addicts(95%). Both sides too. So, I tend to stay away from pills, too much of a risk for me.
I just wanted to see what some of you guys thought about what I have been thinking about. I am not worried about losing in week one. It happens.
I am less forgiving as the season rolls on. At this moment I am sorting out what I am going to be focusing on.
Not me...
…I’m gonna grab a couple o’ six packs, sit down to my small-screen Sony Watchman TV and drive my wife crazy by yelling at the tube for a few hours, cheerin’ Andy and the boys on, scaring the neighbors, no matter how good or bad they play, stuffing my fat face with cheetos and getting orange shit all over the moth-eaten, patched-up couch (propped up on some old copies of Sports Illustrated and unemployment forms) and wedged between our snuggie blankets (as seen on TV). Gonna keep me a big ol’ empty milk jug by the tee-vee just in case I gotta take a leak. Yee-haw, it’s football season. I love it! And if they lose, we’ll be hunting wabbits on Monday. It’ll be Elmer Fudd vs. Andy Reed. “Reed Season! McNabb Season! Reed Season! McNabb Season!” You know the drill.

Another perspective to consider is teamwork. Thats the biggest issue I see. We haven’t played as a complete team and personally, I think teamwork should over shadow individual abilities. You could have all of the greatest players together on one team but it doesn’t necessarily predict whether that team will win if they can’t play together. We’ve all seen this happen before. I think we have a good group of guys, all of them are capable of doing the job whether they are rookies, vets or back-ups. As long as they put their best foot forward, put in the hard work, determination and the heart as a TEAM then anything is possible honestly. These are all areas of concern but I think the Eagles might surprise you. I take preseason with a grain of salt. Even though we have a lot of injuries, there are probably players that could of played in pre-season (westbrook) but why take the chance? Because we want them healthy for week 1 when it matters. We’ll be a different team out there on Sunday and I have the utmost confidence.
In life, as in a football game, the principle to follow is: Hit the line hard.
-Theodore Roosevelt
1. Shawn Andrews:
This is a legitimate concern which I feel all Eagles fans share. Shawn Andrews is probably the best lineman in the NFL when he decides to be, hopefully he decides to be this year.
2. Jason Peters:
He has been battling some injuries but appears to be healthy now. He is a monster in the run blocking and from what I can tell needed some help in pass protection. I’m interested to see how he does this year but I agree it’s a concern.
3. Omar “Can’t stop the Run” Gaither:
I don’t agree with you hear at all. Gaither started all 16 games at Mike in 2007 and lead the team in tackles. He stopped the run extremely well, only to get moved to Will the next season and struggled a little. I have now worries about Omar Gaither playing in the middle.
4. Macho Harris:
Last time I checked we don’t line our FS up in man to man coverage on the other teams number 1 receiver. A rookie starting is always a question mark but I have faith that he can play. I also happen to really like Demps and the could platoon the two of them.
5.Brian “The catalyst” Westbrook:
Every time I think Westbrook is to injured to do anything or can’t possibly have anything left in the tank he proves me wrong. So until I see him struggle I’m going to assume we see The Original out there once again.
6.Sheldon Brown:
He’s battled injuries I have zero concern about Sheldon Brown he has been the best corner on this team for a long time now.
7. Sean Mcdermott:
No one can possibly take JJs spot in my memories but McDermott can run this D. There were talks that the reason the Eagles didn’t try to keep Spags was because they already had JJs successor in McDermott. The D looked rusty in the preseason but I think he kept it pretty plain I can’t wait to see what he’s got. It’s not like a new guy came in and changed the system, and the players. We have the same system and the same basic players, we should be fine.

I am glad to see Whodie agreeing with me.
He did struggle against the run last year. I was pointing that out and asking if anyone else thought that he might be a weak point. I don’t know but I certainly am going to be watching him.
Brown has been a great player and very consistant. I hope he continues with his same level of play. I don’t recall anyone saying anything about him.
yea i agree with whoodie
thank u for having sheldons back ..is he starting? thats insulting .whoodie is 100 percent rite on all that.. and im pretty sure gaither is solid against the run bad against the pass .. that was his prob .. olbs cover rbs and tes more..and he couldnt do that .. hes perfect in the middle

SHELDON
is in the declining years of his career, i know fitz is the best WR on the planet but it looked like he was toying with brown. they both have there stenghts and weaknesses but i like Asante better due to his playmaking ability. Sure did he give up more TDS then sheldon??? yeah, but he also had 2 key plays in the playoffs that were huge momentum changers .
Some people
hy couldn’t I see for this for myself during the preseason?
probably because he didn’t play all preseason due to injury
Let's get it.
o bs
preseason aint shit .. it means nothing

ok here is what you need to take a look at...
1) shawn andrews had back surgery less than a year ago… BACK SURGERY!!!.. Any back surgery is a big deal and could bring other problems… He had surgery on his back, just in case you dont comprehend.. Also he hurt something muscular in his lower back this time.. Meaning that his inflamation hurt his back even more because he had the surgery on his back… IDK about you but getting muscle spasm’s where you had surgery(even a year out from it) hurts like hell.. Plus with his past injury he could have ruined his career if he played with the tweeked back cuz that could bother the old injury thus ruining his career…
2) lol Tra Thomas got called for holding like 3 times against us. He also held about 5 more times without it getting called.. Peters played, you didnt hear much about him because he wasnt giving up sacks, I hope we never hear anything about Peters except once in a blue moon when they say “Trading for peters was a great move on the eagles part”… Shut up, Peter’s is the best tackle in the Business, Shawn has the potential also… Peter’s has been doing well from what I heard.
3) Gaither isnt better than Bradley in the run, but he is in the pass and his just barely below Stewart in the run… Jordan TOOK gaithers job, Gaither made some mistakes to help him but for gods sakes he is human… Gaither is the best choice at MLB period. Suck it up and dont be one of those “I thought making Gaither the MLB was the best choice” types once he shows you his asshole and say’s kiss it with his amazing play.
4) Macho Harris did good enough to beat out Sean Jones, and Demps. As of right now thats good enough for me, He is willing to learn and works hard.. I have no problem with starting him cuz playing next to Mikel will help him alot.. I hope he does very well, I am however worried about him being a rookie but I also know he brings the lumber and can cover… He is the prototypical FS for our Defense believe it or not. And who the fuck cares if he got burnt when he was little? that just useless information.
5) Umm. McCoy did pretty well this preseason running with the ones… I think he will be good.. I think he showed flashes… Westbrook’s been going full speed since the day after the 1st game.
6) You dont hear about brown because he is a stud who keeps his mouth shut… He allowed 1TD all last season, Thats damn impressive… He did play up until those last 2 games because of a slight sprain.. Dont bitch about the man when he produces.
7) What you said about McDermott is ignorant. Your just a fool. Nobody is expecting him to “replace” JJ or even to be the “next spags” except for idiots like you.. This is the mans first DC job EVER, lay off!! in 3 years when you see him running a very good eagles Defense I want you to look back on this day and remember what you said about “knowing he cannot fill JJ’s void” and then I want you to pull the trigger.
The only Viable point you made was when you said “the O is hot and cold” lol thats about it… You blew everything way way way out of porportion..
