Eagles Sign Alex Smith
Essentially the Eagles DID trade Feeley for a NE tight end, even if Feeley never signs with NE. PFT is reporting that the Eagles just signed Alex Smith. He is clearly an upgrade over a guy we will not miss (Schobel). He fills a need adequately until CI can bounce back from his second knee surgery. Seems like a good move. Not sure who is going to get cut but I am sure that news will come soon. The early guess would be Brown.

Thanks
I posted this a fanshot a couple minutes ago, but I’m too lazy to write 75 words to make it a Post. Thanks for doing it for me though haha so we can get a better convo going.
I think this is a great move and it’s about time. Why didn’t we do this two days ago? Anyways, better late than never.
I feel very good about Celek, Curtis, Smith being our TE corps now.
Reggie Brown will be the casualty?
What do you think? Is Reggie going to be the one that gets the boot? Part of me hopes not.
All 7 of our WRs can still play and I’d hate to see one of those assets being wasted.
Seems like it has to be a WR
You don’t need 7 and Reggie has never shown much on ST. I think it depends on the health of Curtis. If this knee injury might be a big deal, I can see them keeping Brown and letting go of Baskett.
brown?
reggie is not getting cut .. dixon prob .. or baskett

I know Tony Curtis played well in that preseason game...
But maybe it’s him.
Bye, Big Stew and JJ :(
Curtis released
The Eagles site has reported that Tony Curtis has been released to free room on the roster for Alex Smith.

so we’re back to 2 TE’s that quick? I am sure its an upgrade, but still leaves us missing a piece.

meh
Schobel played in 5 games last year recording a reception in just 1. They can still use a lineman as a blocker instead of a traditional TE and they could still use Hank Baskett for receiving purposes and Hank is a pretty decent blocker as well.
I wouldn’t be worried if we only carried 2 TEs

Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
confused
i’m still confused why they didn’t just keep three TE’s I liked Curtis.. Seemed like he could catch and was a decent down the field threat.

The two theories being floated are
1) Curtis will end up with the team once someone else is cut
2) Baskett & Weaver & some OL will take any reps a third TE would have taken.
