More on Vick's "special exemption"

PrintOn cutdown day, the Eagles placed Michael Vick on the commissioner's special exemption list. By doing so they avoided having to put him on the 53 man roster which allowed them to hold on to AJ Feeley.
This is not a long term solution. In fact, it's more likely to last only a few days.
While a player is on the commissioner's special exemption list, he can not practice with the team. Obviously not having Vick practicing at this point would be completely counterproductive and there's no way they go without him practicing for the next 2-3 weeks. So look for something to happen in the next couple of days that allows Vick to be taken off that list and put back on the practice field. Of course, that "something" will probably be the cutting or trading of A.J. Feeley.

Vick's Role
I really doubt Vick is the true backup QB. Kolb will be 3rdQB during games. Many teams only have 2QB on roster. If McNabb is out for a series then Vick will take that. If McNabb does not return then Kolb will come in and the WildVick plays will have to go to McCoy. I agree that Vick practicing is better than not but he can still attend all meetings and workout on the side.
The interesting part of keeping Feeley is the gamesmanship Reid is playing with the rest of the league. Will anyone call his bluff, knowing Vick will be activated in two weeks? Same with 7WRs? If necessary, I would cut Patterson to activate Vick then just have Feeley, Gibson, and Brown or Maclin inactive. Just like TE, we should have a CB on the practice squad.
