Bold Predictions

Well, the preseason is winding down and the regular season is looming in the near future.  We now have a decent feel for which players are on the rise, and which will plummet to their demise (wow, unintentional rhyme).  In the spirit of the offseason and preseason, and its deficiency in football related news, I would like to announce the bold predictions competition.

Misscleo_medium

The premise is the following: Make 5 bold predictions about the Eagles or the NFL as a whole.

An example of a prediction: "Jack Ikegwuono will be better than Asante Samuel  this season"

At the end of the season, we can check this post and see who is a football mastermind, and who was completely and utterly wrong.  Of course, it goes without saying that the more wild your prediction is, the more "credit" you will get down the road.  Maybe at the end of the season we can have a vote on who has the most gridiron foresight.

I will begin with my 5 predictions.....feel free to judge my stupidity.

1.) Statistically, Aaron Rodgers will have the best season as a quarterback in 2009.

2.) The Eagles will be #1 in the entire NFL for offensive yardage.

3.) NFC Championship Game: Eagles 23 - Packers 14

4.) Rex Ryan will be named best rookie head coach of the year.

5.) Jason Campbell will get injured for a significant period of time, if not the entire season.

Remember folks, these are supposed to be bold predictions, so they will appear ridiculous.  However, you will look like a genius if you prove to be correct.  Please rec this post so it stays relevant long enough for people to get their predictions in.  Good luck.

my 5 predictions...

1) the broncos will have the worst record in the league

2) donovan mcnabb will have 25+ passing touchdowns, while his backups will have none

3) michael turner will get better fantasy numbers than adrian peterson

4) t.o. will not catch any more than 60 passes… neither will brandon marshall, anquan boldin, or plaxico burress (that last one was a joke… because he’ll be in jail)

5) the redskins will have a better record than the cowboys

Time to look like I'm smoking pot.

1) 49ers wins the NFC West

2) Rams come in second in the West.

3) The Seahawks will have the worst record in the NFL.

4) Brett Favre will not play all 16 games, because of injuries and shitty QB play.

5) MVP for 2008 season? Philips Rivers.

I didn’t think you were smoking pot until the MVP prediction at the end, but that’s probably because I really dislike Phillip Rivers lol. I also agree that the Brett Favre experiment will be an utter failure.

al davis

Of course is insane, but Jones is a worse owner then Al. Outside of the amazing time Jimmy Johnson built, he has had no success. Al Davis has been to the super bowl in the last 10 years, and he’s supposedly the worst owner in the NFL. If the coach who built the team wasn’t on the other sideline, they would have had a chance.

"Eagles fans are a passionate group who love their team," said McNabb, "if not the actual players. It's not like winning a Super Bowl before the first month of the season is the hardest thing they've ever asked of me. That'd be all those times they asked me to go kill myself."

Here goes nothing

1. The Lions will go 9-7 (Yeah, you read that right).
2. The Texans will make the playoffs as a Wildcard, but will lose.
3. DeSean Jackson will have 70+ receptions, 1000+ yards, and 13 TDs
4. Michael Vick will be named Comeback Player of the Year.
5. Superbowl: Eagles vs Patriots. Eagles win it 31-28

Lions prediction....

Highly unlikely. The first 6 games they play are at Saints, vs Vikings, vs Redskins, at Bears, vs Steelers, and at Packers. They will probably be 0-6 starting the season especially after how awful Stafford looked in the preseason.

I'm really bored...

so I’ll do one for each team.

1. The Bills will get off to a solid start, but lose all but one of their games as TO is plagued by his toe all year.

2. Chad Pennington will not be starting by Week 9 for Miami.

3. The Patriots will not have anyone rush for 100 yds in a game, yet somehow have a record of 12-4.

4. Leon Washington will have over 1000 yards rushing and over 1000 yards receiving as the Jets win a Wild Card spot.

5. Bengals go .500. Can’t really think of anything better here.

6. Neither Derek Anderson or Brady Quinn will end the season as the Browns starting QB.

7. The Ravens will have a plethora of injuries and will finish 9-7. They will miss the playoffs.

8. The Steelers will start 0-2, but end the year 13-3.

9. The Texans will win the AFC South with an 11-5 record.

10. The Colts will have a down year and not have a running back finish with more than 650 yards rushing. No playoffs also.

11. Jacksonville will still be the most enigmatic team of all time and finish 8-8.

12. The Titans will finally have a 1000 yard reciever in Nate Washington. They will win the other WC spot.

13. Denver will win only one game this year.

14. Kansas city will win two games this year.

15. Oakland will not have double digit losses.

16. SD wins the West without a 1000 yard rusher. I forgot to mention Rivers will have a monster year, and I think he’s a douche.

17. Tony Romo will not be the same QB without TO and will lead the league in INT’s.

18. The Giants will not be the same team without Burress and Derrick Ward (Mr 24.7, see Bye, Dawk for that) and will finish last in the East.

19. The Eagles will win the division and Gocong will make the Pro Bowl.

20. Washington will give every team a good fight, but bad QB play will be their demise.

21. Da Bears will beat Detroit in the last week of the year in OT to win a WC spot.

22. Detroit will sweep the Vikings and go 4-12

23. Green Bay will have the 2nd best offense in the NFL and win the North.

24. Brett Farve will be benched on Week 10 vs. Detroit.

25. The Falcons will win the other WC.

26. Carolina will have a HUGE fall from grace as Delhomme will not be starting by Week 5.

27. Pierre Thomas will lead the league in rushing TD’s.

28. Tampa will have 3 wins.

29. The Cardinals will not have 3 1000 yard recievers, but one 1800 yd+ reciever named Larry.

30. The Niners will sign Michael Crabtree do to league intervention. He will not take a snap this season and will be a distraction for many years to come.

31. The Seahawks will miss out on a WC spot due to 2 games lost at the last second, one of which to Da Bears.

32. Steven Jackson will have top 8 numbers and be traded in the offseason to Indy.

BONUS: Whoever drafts Colt McCoy in the 2010 Draft will have a San Francisco-esque dynasty with him.

All of your predictions are pretty safe to say the least, and i agree with u and pretty much all of them. Especially about AARON RODGERS, this kid is gonna have a huge year so im with u 100% on that one. Im gonna take it a step farther and name him the 2009 MVP. HERE ARE THE REST:
2. KNOWSHON MORENO WILL WIN ROY
3.BEN WILL GET HURT AND STEELERS WILL MISS PLAYOFFS

by jack is better than asante on Sep 6, 2009 1:39 AM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah.............

ive been suping up the raiders at my job for the last 6 months or so. They should have a good ground game 1-2 punch with bush and mcfadden. Plus they helped us out big time by beating the bucs.
Now i heard sumwhere that u are a bid supporter of Reggie, i myself was a big REg phan. But i lost my lov 4 him at the end of the redskins game. All he had 2 to was reach the ball over his head and it would have broke the plain for a TD. Anyway it doesnt matter since we made the playoffs anyway but Brown lost a lot of favor with me on that play. I would like to see him become the player i thought he was gonna be but i dont know if its gonna be with us. I got a feelin a trade is comin for him and Feeley packaged together.

The Raiders rushing attack was fairly strong last year too. Now that they get back a healthy McFadden, it will be even better.

5 Bold (semi insane) Eagles Predictions

1- Brandon Gibson cracks the starting line-up before the season is over.

2- Brian Westbrook starts all 16 games.

3- Vick is involved in the 1st offensive play in Week 3. Maybe not bold enough, so I’ll say the play results in a TD.

4- Eagles D produces 3 shutout games.

5- Sav Rocca makes the pro-bowl.

1. Brandon Gibson has a better year than Maclin. And turns out to be a better WR career wise.
2. Dallas wins the division. Eagles take the wild card. We go to Dallas’ new stadium for NFC championship game and lay another 44-6 type smack down!! On the way to losing:( another SB.
3. Vick scores more rushing TD’s than Westbrook. 5 rushing.
4.Eli goes back to the old Eli, 20 something TD’s and 20 something INT’s. Giants have a Giant fall from last year. 6-10. Jacobs gets injured.

Seems like the Bills still have a lot of question marks heading into the season.

http://www.buffalorumblings.com/2009/9/6/1017589/running-back-linebacker-remain

Lynch will be out for a 3-week suspension, and they have horrible depth behind him. They have a terrible O-line. Pair that with a young QB, and those shiny new receivers they have will see the ball a lot less than they expect. Also, they have a poor pass rush, and apparently are very inexperienced at the linebacker position (sounds familiar).

they did not score 1 TD all pre-season(starters). They are running a no huddle offense with a dummy QB. They just fired their O-co a week before the season starts. And their Oline is possibly the worst in the NFL!

My (semi-bold) Eagles Predictions

1) Donovan gets his first 4,000+ yard season. Not bold enough probably, so I’ll say he throws for 4,500+ and 30+ TDs.
2) Maclin is starting opposite Desean (over Curtis) by Week 7.
3) Avant almost doubles his totals from last year and ends with 700+ yards receiving.
4) Westbrook gets another 2,000+ yards from scrimmage season.
5) Abiamiri gets 10+ sacks and we finally have a pass rusher to complement Trent Cole. And we can finally rush the passer consistently with only four guys.

by Smitty2K3 on Sep 6, 2009 9:16 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

My NFL Predictions (8 for good measure)

1) Calvin Johnson leads the league in receiving yards.
2) Adrian Peterson breaks Eric Dickerson’s record and rushes for more than 2,105 yards
3) The Texans win the AFC South
4) The Bengals win the AFC North (wow I can’t believe I just said that)
5) Kyle Orton has a better year, statistically, than Jay Cutler.
6) Eagles beat the Giants in the NFCCG.
7) Chargers beat the Ravens (who were a Wild Card team) in the AFCCG.

8) Eagles beat the Chargers in the SUPER BOWL!

1. We play the NFC West champs, the 49ers in the NFC Championship game.

2. Felix Jones leads the Cowboys in rushing yards.

3. Ronnie Brown has a disgusting season. 2000 yards from scrimmage and 16 total TDs.

4. The Bills miss Jason Peters A LOT and have a horrible offense. Dick Jauron finally gets fired.

5. Chris Cooley goes into BEAST MODE and has 80 catches, 800 yards, and 8 tds.

I like Malcolm Kelly

which cuts into Devin Thomas’s time, and Fred Davis doesn’t look like he’s gonna get all that much burn.

One year after having a horrid offense, it does seem wise to have all those guys with an NFL year under their belts & in the system, along with longtime Betts backing up Pinton Clitoris.

I think Jason Campbell will get hurt for the following reason: It’s a total gut feeling.

I have no ill feelings against Campbell. In fact, I really like his attitude and feel like he has gotten shortchanged with so many offensive playbook changes throughout his career. Don’t get me wrong, just because I predict something does not mean I want it to happen – it’s just a total gut feeling prediction, that’s all.

It really is a crime that Jason Avant only recorded 32 receptions in 15 games last year. That means he averaged roughly 2 receptions per game, which is unacceptable for a player of his catching abilities.

Think about this for a second – Jason Avant’s longest reception last season was for 31 yards, yet he averaged 11.8 yards per catch last season. That means he had no huge receptions to inflate his average yards per catch, yet he still recorded a very high number. Long story short, the guy is consistently moving the chains when he gets the ball.

He has been ready to accept a greater workload for a while, and it seems like the more McNabb leans on him, the better he performs. One last prediction I will make, which is somewhat related to andyreidswaistline’s, is that Jason Avant will more than double his receptions (32) from last year, and more importantly he will become one of our best red zone targets, recording 8 touchdowns in the red zone.

Agreed. The guy moves the chains. He also had 11 receptions during 3 playoff games and I believe he now possesses McNabb’s full trust in him as a go to guy over the middle.
