6 things I’ll be looking for against the Jets tonight

Well we’ve finally arrived to the final preseason game and it’s a good feeling. It will be the last time in an Eagles uniform for many players as final cuts approach this weekend. Here are some of the things I’ll be watching for tonight:

1. Brandon Gibson
I already mentioned it today but this kid needs to play his heart out tonight. He’s got a great chance to make this team but really needs to prove himself. He is going to start the game tonight so he needs to come out and show the coaching staff he’s worth the roster spot. I’m really pulling for the kid because I see great potential.

2. Lorenzo Booker vs. Eldra Buckley
I don’t really see how this is even a competition but that’s what they’re calling it. Maybe I’m bias because of how big of a flop Booker was last year, but he hasn’t really come out and showed us anything this year. Buckley was a guy that no one heard of because he was behind a bunch of other great backs (LaDainian Tomlinson, Michael Turner, Darren Sproles). However, he has shown us that he can play this game. He is a solid runner and has also shown he has good hands out of the backfield. I will be shocked if Booker makes the team over him.

3. Middle Linebacker
So Omar Gaither will receive the honors of starting on opening day at MLB. There is still hot competition at the MLB spot. Although for now it is a battle for the backup spot, the winner could very well end up challenging for the starting spot during the season. Joe Mays will start tonights game but Moise Fokou will see a lot of time at the position as well. Both have been up and down this preseason so we’ll see who can finish strong.

4. Special Teams
A lot of guys only shot of making this team is by coming out and proving they will play their hearts out on special teams. I don’t think the coverage squad has been stellar anyway so I really want to see people getting down the field and making plays.

5. LeSean McCoy
I absolutely love this guy. Although I wouldn’t play him if it were my decision, it’s not my decision so he’s going to play. It looks like he’ll get carries in the first quarter and then let the other RBs battle it out after that. McCoy has great vision and I can’t wait to see what kind of numbers he puts up this year.

6. Michael Vick
Vick will get to play the actual quarterback position for more than one consecutive play for the first time in two season. He will get to run the offense and try to drive the ball down the field and put points on the board. It should be interesting to see how he can handle the offense after such a long time off. I’m also hoping he sees some pressure so we can see him make some plays with his feet. The only thing I hope is that if he plays well there isn’t a should he start over Donovan controversy. We don’t need that.

What are you looking for tonight?

TE

Bright vs. Myers Vs. Curtis Vs. Shobel

Obviously Celek is the starter, but two tight end sets are used alot so we need confidence in our backup.

I think Shobel is as good as cut, and Curtis will make the roster but who out of myers/bright will get the third roster spot.

DE battle is going to be great! I really like what Babin has shown so far. Great Motor and nose for the ball.

Also, I think Eldra has to show a lot of different things tonight. Catching out of the backfield, chip blocking and special teams play. If he does these 3 things well I think he makes the team. So far he’s been one of our best tacklers on special teams. Dude is not afraid to fly down the field and lay the big hurt on those return guys.

I really like both these guys passion so far and hope the end up making the final cut.

The TE spot has become a very interesting battle as well, and I think that the FO decision regarding that spot will be based on blocking ability and (again) special teams play. I think Bright is leading in the special teams category but not much else. Myers has shown some good route running ability and hands, he just needs to prove he can block NFL caliber DE’s and LB’s.

Can’t wait for tonight!

GO EAGLES!!!

Why spell Mccoy?

He needs all the playing time he can to keep developing and get more accustomed to the NFL.

game and wont be able to play for us when we need him. Sounds good.

Let's get it.

Agree

Those are my feelings as well. After losing our defensive captain for the year as well as a rookie who showed great promise, I am just freaked out by the injury bug. I believe McCoy is very talented and will be ready Week One.
