The Axe Man is back!!!

Trotter returns to Philly

Posted by Mike Florio on September 29, 2009 2:35 PM ET

After two workouts in roughly a week and an absence of more than two years, veteran linebacker Jeremiah Trotter is back where he started.

According to Jay Glazer of FOX, the Eagles have agreed to terms with Trotter.  Per Glazer, it's a one-year deal.

Trotter told the Philadelphia Daily News that his second workout was "two to three times better" than his initial workout.

Trotter also says that microscopic knee surgery from 2008 has improved his mobility.

"To say my knee is better is an understatement," he said.

Trotter could push Omar Gaither for the starting job, which Gaither inherited when Stewart Bradley tore an ACL during training camp.

hmmmmm

I hadn’t realized that one of these two things were true:
1) Trotter is really a freak who can contribute to the Eagles after injuries and layoffs, or
2) the MLB position sucked so badly the first 3 games.

Which one is it?

I’m gonna have to lean towards #2 there, but I have a ton of respect for Trotter.

The question is….who gets released…? My guess will be Garcia.. Not gonna have 4 QB’s…

Love Trotter

My favorite Trotter story was the year he got released, just before he got released, i was crossing the street wearing an Authentic Trotter jersey… he stopped, to say hello….I asked if he would sign my jersey…his words were “The least i can do for a fan who spends his hard earned $ on my jersey, is sign it for you.”

He is the man!!

I heard he was that cool of a guy. I’ve always had respect for how he played, and I hope he can continue to bring it! That type of story makes me respect how he handles himself off the field too.

Yeah, I saw him at his car wash in Cherry Hill once

Super nice guy. I think if nothing else, the leadership he can bring to the D, especially in the absence of JJ and BDawk is worth just as much off the field as it is on.

The contract is a one-year deal for the league minimum.

Trotter must really want to play and the Linc is gonna go crazy when he gets out there.

I want someone in the Mike who Loves to play and has a commanding presence. Trot or Bradley are 2 names that come to mind. This D will have a little more soul now and I love it.

Good news for his car wash establishment.

This just in...

Proof that our linebacker core is a F***KIN WEAKNESS on this defense and we better do a complete redo next year. I love Trotter as much as the next Eagles fan but this isn’t exactly good news to me.

I agree

I’m happy to see him again, but I think I would have preferred to see him in a suit at half-time being inducted into the honor roll…

Hopefully he still has something…

I’m worried because we cut him for being old and slow…I have a tough time believing that in three years he got younger and faster

Well

the only thing I could say to defend that is that he is well rested (reference to the Replacements). But I don’t know. I’ve been saying this whole offseason we need a LB. When Stew went down that just re-enforced what I was saying. Everyone was saying Joe was going to step up and pick up right where Stew left off and now look, hes 3rd on the depth chart. We should have picked up up Leroy Hill or Larry Foote in my opinion. But its whatever now. Hopefully our DB and DL can cover for them this year.

sooooooo …. the glass is half empty?

We lost our starting middle linebacker to an ACL tear in pre season … and your just now getting concerned? Gaither is a decent linebacker and I’m fine with him starting but to say we need to do a complete redo of our LB core is ridiculous.

No

I’m not looking at the glass half empty. I’m looking at the glass half full now, but at the end of the season the glass will be empty. And understand, I had been saying something was wrong with our LB core long before Stew went down. I have been concerned with our LB’s since the end of last season. In my opinion we should have drafted one in the earlier rounds (even though I took that back because i’m actually pretty satisfied with our draft class so far). Honestly, Akeem, Mays, Gocong, and Gaither are all back ups on another team. I like what Akeem has done and hope he continues to improve, but he still has some ways to go (like he needs to make a few more tackles than he misses) Mays is a good preseason guy, but he lost a job that was given to him after it was given to him and now is third on the depth chart. So to say we need to redo our LB core is not ridiculous. I hope and wish the best for the LB’s this year. I really do, but until I see some major improvement on their part I will have doubt in them.

love trot.

broke the jersey out of the closet as soon as i heard the news haha. but still, im skepitcal that we brought him back at his age after having knee surgery. i mean, don’t get me wrong, i’m excited to see him back and i respect the hell outta the guy, but besides presence and some leadership i don’t see him bringing much else.

Love the Move!!

definitely helps ease the pain of losing the Dawkins to Denver, this will definitely give our defense some personality! Go Trotter!

by fhqwagads on Sep 30, 2009 7:45 AM EDT reply actions

Thought this was crazy

But they were going to let Garcia pursue a job elsewhere with the dust settling after three weeks. Might as well let it be a fan favorite who just might surprise. To all the nay-sayers out there, remember we doubted what he could do his last time badk and he worked hard and humbly and earned his spot. We became a little easy to predict with him later on, but this move could really help Omar play to his potential and last throughout the season —and good luck running against Trott and Gocong with that 4 in front of them. Could make some interesting packages possible. I think this is really more of a reflection on the status of Joe Mays, who has to be considered ‘on the way out’ and our overall depth and size.
Don’t want to be run on EVER!!!!!!!!! Go Eagles!!! Best of Luck TROTTA!!!!

Lets just imagine for a minute that Trotter comes back to his Pro Bowl abilities and kills it out there…. Big Red will look genius and hardly paid anything to get him.
