NFL Fines Sheldon Brown $10K for Wearing Jason Mask

Pretty sure even those fans with just a passing interest in football probably thought to themselves, "Yep, he's definitely getting fined," when the Eagles' Sheldon Brown was announced prior to last Sunday's game while sporting a Jason mask. Gretz even fake tweeted it (proof reproduced after the jump).
And yesterday, the Real_RogerGoodell did what everybody expected: garnished Brown's wages for prematurely celebrating Halloween. Via PFT (via ESPN's Adam Schefter), Brown is now out $10,000 for the "uniform violation."
Forgetting the ten grand for a moment, Brown might want to tone it down a bit for another reason: the Saints hung 48 on the Eagles last week. The mask didn't take, apparently.
realy Mr Goodell? It was THAT big a deal? I for one am starting to get reallllllllllll sick of Roger goodells self righteous holier than thou attitude towards the game and its players.....any thoughts fellow BGN'ers?

i thought the mask was unnecessary
and you cant tell me sheldon didnt know he wasnt going to get fined for that.
Its pretty embarassing in my opinion to wear that for introductions and then get torched for 48 points

True.
The rules are pretty clear. Sheldon was stupid for wearing the mask.

ok, yeah maybe the mask was unnecessary but what pisses me off more than anything is you can trip and kick opponents and get fined half that, truly injuring somone and putting them on IR. You got a harmless act that didn’t effect anyone or even game time because it was before the game even started. Shit… we should just go kicking people and be all haynesworth on peoples ass’s if thats the case. its bullshit.

I agree with you there… totally pointless and you look like a fool at the end of the day but fine him 1K or 3K but twice as much as kicking? F that.

That block quote didn't work
be all haynesworth on peoples ass’s
I love how ‘haynesworth’ has now become it’s own article of speech!

i just dont understand
if The NFL is supposed to be part of the entertainment industry (and it is cuz you certainly cant classify it as a “trade” ) why is it that when a player does something entertaining , he gets punished for it. Casi in point Wes Welkers snow angels in the endzone cost him 10,000 ….REALLY 10 grand for snow angels?!!!!
You dont like my IGGLES???!!!! well you can just suck my VICK!

i'm surprised he didn't get a bigger fine.
two weeks ago, desean jackson dropped to the ground and 5 surrounding eagles got hit with the same fine as sheldon. i’m shocked he didn’t get fined worse.

I believe Jackson and the boys were only fined 6K and Sheldon was fined 10K if I’m not mistaken.

Once again!
Once again…Im gonna beat a dead horse in the “Leagues” eyes.
The league stresses protecting QB’s. Yet u got a QB run into the endzone hit the ground, the refs signal touchdown then a D-lineman dives on the QBs back after the plays been down. I don’t care if it was only 3 seconds after the TD signal. The point is the play was done and he got jumped on. It is night and day. Everyone saw it clearly. But the league ruled that it was not late. BS! Manning or Brady get him like that, it would be all over the news and the league would’ve fined that player with the quickness. Sheldon Brown wears a mask ok. The mask does not hurt anyone. Does not cause any physical harm. And he gets fined ok. Why is Goodell and the league so selective with there enforcement……

…..This is why I don’t like Goodell. He’s selective with his gavil. If u are gonna fine a player for something as little as a mask that was put on BEFORE the game even started, then fine a player when he hits a QB when he’s down in the endzone! Goodell says that he is trying to restore the image of the NFL as a professional business. He says he is trying to un-tarnish the name of the NFL from being a dirty sport. He wants to hold players accountable for there actions. This is all good! But not fining a player who clearly hits your QB after the TD is called, and fining Sheldon for wearing a mask and other players for TD celebrations shows that Goodell is more worried bout the visual status of football and not the game itself. Who is holding Goodell accountable. He can fine all the players he wants, but don’t be selective with it.!!!

Not only that but there should be pricing ranges for every offense… physical violence should obviously be higher then masks or TD celebrations. period.

My stomach still kinda turns
seeing the video of hanesworth cleating gurode…at the time I felt like he shouldn’t be allowed to play football at all anymore if he couldn’t control his emotion…
Do you know what his fine was? If I remember right he was also suspended for a couple games.

I got this from ESPN
The five-game suspension will cost Haynesworth $38,014 per game, or one-seventeenth of his 2006 base salary of $646,251.
That means Haynesworth will lose $190,070 for five games.

I loved the mask
but there are 2 problems with what he did.
Wear a mask for pregame rituals- win that game
and
If he gets away with it, you will see half of the NFL doing the same thing next week
I loved it but he Sheldog knew what he was doing

Anyone with any kind of leadership ability realizes that you have to crack down on what he did. Otherwise this week some idiot rides out of the tunnel on a motorcycle

I liked the mask!
I liked the mask. I thought he came out with a lot of energy like Dawkins used to. I understand they have to fine him so everyone doesn’t do the same thing. I also think there should be some type of scale on how severe the fines are for certin situations. That fat a$$ lineman on carolina should have been fined more money than Sheldon. Also if Sheldon is gonna wear a mask he should play a lot better than he did. Its all good Sheldon I’m not mad at you.

sheldon didn't really play very poorly
the only play that he gave up big yards (that I recall) was when brees threw an unbelievable pass against picture perfect coverage

yeah that was one of the best passes ive ever seen

That offense is freaky.

That wasn't Sheldon's fault
That route and that pass were flawlessly executed…that was just perfect offense…it scared me
