Andy Reid PC: Jeremiah Trotter's workout, Maclin to start?
In one of the more surprising moves of the season(of course this in a season where the Eagles signed Mike Vick...) the Eagles brought in 32 year old Jeremiah Trotter for a workout. Trotter has been out of football for a year and was last seen riding the bench for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Trotter, who is certainly one of the more beloved Eagles of the past decade, hasn't been offered a contract.... yet. Reid says he just wanted to see how he looked.
"We had a chance to work out Jeremiah yesterday and I just wanted to see where he was at," Reid said. "He had his knee taken care of after he left here, so I wanted to get him in here and see him move around a little bit, which I thought he did a good job with.
"I haven't made any decisions on it one way or another, I wanted to make sure that I had a pulse of where he was at."
As for players currently on the team... Kevin Curtis missed another practice with a sore knee and Reid said that if he can't go, rookie WR Jeremy Maclin would start in his place.
In other injury news, Desean Jackson returned to practice and will play. Brian Westbrook is questionable but "improving." McNabb is doubtful but making progress.

Soooooo......
we’ll have a QB with 1 NFL start, a rookie WR, a TE with 1 year of spot starting experience, a WR with 1 year starting experience, a rookie RB, a RT starting his 4th game, AND a rookie DC calling the shots on Sunday.
Oy.
We’re favored? How? In all seriousness, the Chiefs must really suck this year. We’ll be lucky to score 15 points. I don’t care who the opponent is, if Andy wins this one, it will be one of his greatest accomplishments ever.

Only a little pessimism there...
I think that this years Eagles will be more like the Carolina game Eagles than the N’Orleans game Eagles. Not quite that dominant, but still pretty good. We have the talent, maybe not the experience, but whatever. The Eagles should wipe the floor with this sad sack team.
and
a rookie FS, if Macho is indeed starting.
RIP Jim Johnson. You will truly be missed.

What??
Kolb threw for 391 last week 2 Td’s and 2Int’s( the 3rd int was a last second toss up). Eagles score 20 plus and and hold the Chiefs to 13 points at most.
Yeah but...
He needs a lot more time to develop… I think we drafted our QB of the future at least two years too early.
Na, all the good QB this year are all gonna be gone by the 15 pick. After that its a crap shoot.
Its smart to select your guy when you see him, as you will rarely draft high enough to get a real stud.
Bleed green, or don't bleed at all!
Unless players like Josh Freeman are what you consider to be a stud?
Bleed green, or don't bleed at all!
he does...
need more time to develop! It’s unfair to judge him on his mop up or emergency duty alone. I do not feel he is great! But I think he can beat KC and teams of that nature. What he can’t do, and most QB’s can’t do is win when the other team gets short fields. He was doing good until we got behind. The last second TD before half and Hobbs fumble made him turn into a gunslinger. He then answered that with 2 INTs. If our special teams and D play a little better, MAYBE he plays a little more conservative/calm and we come out of that game with a W.
That guys world was on his shoulders last week knowing that most of us hate him. I think he did ok.
wow...
Maclin to start if Curtis can’t go? Reggie Brown has Herpes or something that Reid has vowed not to let him play? Seriously Reggie gets no respect. If we dont win the Superbowl this year again because of Reid’s stupid decisions, bring on Cowher, Shanahan, Gruden, Holmgren for interviews. Im ready for a coaching change.

Say what . . .?
So you are upset that Reid is going to play the supposedly really talented Maclin over a guy who by all accounts hasn’t practiced that hard in nearly 2 years, has had a pretty indifferent attitude over that same time span, and was supposedly close to getting cut in the preseason because of his pretty mixed showing at Lehigh?
We all hope Maclin plays well...
I just want Reggie to get a fair shot since he has done it before and all i hear from the coaches are good things about him. Besides, if they dont let him play he wont have any trade value. If Reid would start Reggie if Curtis is hurt and he has a great game, he would be great trade bait plus he will get to play for another team. Its a win-win.

It's not about the one loss...
It’s about the obvious stupid decisions he makes that costs us games. For example, passing the ball on 3rd/4th and really short when we have 2 maulers in Peters and Justice and a beast full back, challenging calls that a 6 year old can tell was correct costing timeouts, passing the ball when ahead by 10+ points and need to kill the clock and now he is about to start a rookie that played great in the spread offense in college but still raw in the West Coast Offense over a guy who had a 61 catch season in this offense just 2 seasons ago and is playing at a “high level” in practice “working his tail off”. Those quotes are from Marty and Reid themselves. I would love to see Maclin kick ass on Sunday but if he sucks and the Eagles lose, then I’m calling for Reid’s head.

it doesn't make sense to put in reggie
Yes, he may be working his ass off in practice. Yes, he has put up big numbers in the past. But Maclin is the future of this WR corps. Reggie is gone as soon as his contract will allow it. It makes sense to give Maclin game time experience so that he can develop. I don’t think it will cost us the game, however, if we lose a game now so that maclin develops enough to win us the big games at the end of the season, then Andy made the right call.
People are halirious on here
When we drafted Kolb it was when McNabb was injured 3 of th epast 5 years. He was an insurance policy. Maybe Maclin is ready to play? Maybe we just want to give him time as we’re playing a team whos won 3 games in the past 30 or so. Everyone was so hyped about McCoy maclin and how Maclin was going to be Jackson #2 but now were worried about him. Why are you scared of Celek starting? He’s playing quite well. McDermott has been learning for 10 years now, it’s not like one of us get elected to call the shots.. Jeeze, relax
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Personally I would be happier with Gibson to start, I love this guy. He was in an 0-11 team, in a big team he would have been a 2nd round pick… Give him a chance
I like him Gibson
But I like Maclin too… and he since he was first round pick I’d like to see him out there.
Trotter's tryout
The only thing I can remotely reason why the Eagles would try out is that Reid appreciated his attitude/demeanor and that really is a gaping hole at MLB as Mays looked completely overmatched against even 2nd-string offenses in the preseason and Gaither hasn’t shown much in 2 weeks either.
