Eagles Swap TE Myers for TE Rucker

PE.com has just announced that the Eagles have cut tight end Rob Myers from the practice squad and signed another tight end to replace him: Martin Rucker out of Mizzou. Rucker was a fourth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2008 and spent the preseason with the team before being released in favor of Jaguars practice squad TE Greg Estandia. In four preseason games with Cleveland, Rucker caught three passes for 37 yards and no touchdowns. According to scouting reports, Rucker is mostly a pass-catching tight end with average blocking skills. However, Rucker has been committed to developing his blocking technique and rounding himself out into a complete player, so there is certainly potential there.

The 24 year old Rucker is listed as 6'5" and 240 lbs. He played alongside receiver Jeremy Maclin at Missouri.

Wouldn't minded keeping both

I think Myers will end up being better than Rucker. He reminds me of a healthier LJ. Getting cut by Cleveland ain’t too good…especially with Winslow no longer in town.

I’d also like to know who was saying he was committed to being a better blocker. Can’t we just sign a TE that we already know is a better blocker?!

Here is the complete scouting report on Rucker. Apparently he could have been one of the first TEs taken in 2008 if not for a hamstring strain during the combine.

Yeah, he looked great in college

I hope the only issue was a tweaked hammy and a new coaching staff/FO that want’ed to clear out the Man-genius’ players. I’m just hoping he’s not a TE version of Maclin — a guy who needs to learn how to run routes and be an NFL receiver — without any of Maclin’s upside.

I guess they could hook him up with Celek and have him teach Rucker how to apply himself.

I like the move I remember Rucker was one of the TE’s I wanted when he came out.

For what it is worth

After the Maclin pick, I got a hold of a couple Mizzou games from 2007. Honestly, Maclin did not do much at all in either game. I remember coming away from those games wondering who this Rucker guy was and where he ended up. He dominated both games.

I think T. Rucker will be a good fit for the Eagles. He is more of a pass catching TE and will work hard on his blocking. Best of luck to you T. GO MIZZOU EAGLES.
