Fantasy Report: Week Two

Kevin CurtisWith Week One completed, and the first fantasy week over, it’s time to fix up your rosters. I’m sure most of us, even if you did win last week, could improve our team. The one player that you do not want on your team is a fantasy killer (e.g. Jake Delhomme). My fantasy predictions in Week One were fairly impressive, better than even I would have guessed. So I will attempt to improve upon my great week last week, and give you my Week Two Fantasy Start ‘ Ems and Sit’Ems.

Star-divide

Start ‘Em

QB Trent Edwards, Bills

The thing that impressed me the most with Edwards in Week One was his decision making. He made the most out of the new no-huddle offense by tiring out the Patriots’ defense, which allowed him to make the safe throws. His Week Two opponent is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who last week allowed Tony Romo to throw a career high in passing yards, making him look like a top tier NFL Quarterback. I expect Edwards to come out strong against the Bucs’ defense, and I think he will utilize his two dangerous wideouts, Terrell Owens and Lee Evans.

RB Darren Sproles, Chargers

Since LaDainian Tomlinson will not suit up for tomorrow’s game, Sproles will get the rock more t han he has ever had. Despite him going up against the Ravens’ defense, his quickness and agility will cause problems against Baltimore ’s aging linebackers. Another thing that Sproles brings to the table is his pass-catching ability, along with his dominance on the return team. Don’t be surprised if Sproles ends up taking a reception to the house, and adds another touchdown on the ground.

WR Torry Holt, Jaguars

Last week, Holt only netted 47 yards on 3 receptions, but the matchup against the Cardinals is a favorable one for the former Ram. In last week’s game against the 49ers, Arizona allowed Isaac Bruce to find some openings in the secondary, and finished with 74 yards. The Jaguars brought Holt in to be their number one target, and I expect him to back up that statement against the Cardinals.

Sit ‘Em

QB Eli Manning, Giants

If you are considering starting Eli than your fantasy team is clearly out of luck. The rivalry between the Cowboys and Giants will be heated tomorrow, and if the Cowboys can apply pressure to Eli, then it’s all over. The Giants will look to establish the run, but will find out that the Cowboy’s front seven is no pushover. Once Eli is forced to find his inexperienced receivers, he will make some mistakes, which we all know kill fantasy teams.

RB Steve Slaton, Texans

He had a brutal game in Week One against a sub-par defense, and now that he is faced against the Steel Curtain, I do not like his chances . His terrific rookie campaign is over, and now the sophomore slump is beginning for the West Virginia graduate. The Steelers held Tennessee Titans’ RB Chris Johnson to 57 yards and no scores. Slaton will have a tough day once again for the struggling Texans.

WR Marques Colston, Saints

The Eagles’ secondary was flawless against the Panthers, and with all the hype surrounding the Saints’ aerial attack, the Eagles’ defense will be out to prove the critics wrong. The combination of Asante Samuel and Sheldon Brown on Colston will not give him many chances to receive the ball. Coordinator Sean McDermott has been preparing for this game all week just to show how tough his defense really is. Don’t expect Colston to put up many points this week as he did last week.

Sleeper of the Week

WR Kevin Curtis

The Saints’ defense will apply all its attention to DeSean Jackson, as they should, but don’t be surprised to see Kevin Kolb looking elsewhere. In what will likely be Kolb’s first career NFL, and knowing that Jeff Garcia is breathing down his back, he needs to show the coaches that he can be a true NFL Quarterback. The Saints allowed Lions’ second WR Bryant Johnson to rack up some good yardage, so I expect Curtis to do the same, and find the end zone at least once.

Hmmm...

I’m only curious why you picked the three (seemingly) random players for start/sit. Surely you think there are other players worth starting/sitting, so why these guys?

Well I’m not gonna say the obvious ones, like Tom Brady, Adrian Peterson, Fitzgerald and so and so. I’m mentioning teh guys who are good to take a shot on, and put them in your starting lineup.

I found a place for my ?

I originally had this in another fanpost:

With McNabb not likely to play, as of now, how much of an impact will Kolb have on D-Jax’s numbers? I don’t know how well Kolb played in the preseason, and how much chemistry he has with D-Jax. The matchup is favorable for D-Jax, if McNabb was to play, i’m just wondering if Kolb is capable of delivering for D-Jax to have a decent fantasy game!

Tough Call

1. You would think Kolb would look for Jackson since he is the best WR on the team

BUT…the Saints may look to take DJax out of the picture, double team him, and force Kolb to look elsewhere.

I think Kolb will look for Westbrook more then DJax.

Yeah, tough call is right

Thanks for responding! 8)

I just happened to see parts of last weeks game against Car. and McNabb was looking to Jax. frequently it seemed. I was wondering if Kolb can or would have the same connection with him. And i was especially wondering seeing how Garcia signed on!

I’ll probably play it safe for now. My definite’s were Bowe and Harvin. The toss up was between Royal vs. Cle. or D-Jax w/ McNabb. They always say that a young QB’s best friend is either the outlet to the RB or TE. So perhaps Celek could be an unknown fantasy sleeper this week, and Philly will nickel and dime the Saints?

Good luck!

I disagree with the Slaton benching

Slaton did poorly against the Jets, who are now coached by Rex Ryan, who was the D-Coordinator for Baltimore last year where Slaton ran for 7 yards on 4 carries, his worst game of his rookie year. In two games against the Titans last year, Slaton had 42 carries for 216 yds and 1 td. averaging out just over 21 carries and 108 yds. a game. I’d say that’s a pretty good game.

I was going to point that out too. Especially in PPR leagues, Slaton is a stud and you don’t sit studs. Plus the texans have owned the jags in the past.

They play Tennessee this week

not Jax, but they have owned the Jags in the past.
I was also gonna say that I think the Jets are gonna have a top 10 defense this year and Baltimore is gonna have an average one. The Ravens will miss the tactically gifted Ryan a lot this year.

I had a brain fart, my fault. Regardless, you are correct with your assumption. The loss of Bart Scott on the Raven’s D will also effect how they play. I’m curious to see how Brady performs tomorrow (though I have him in fantasy so I hope he puts up atleast 2 scores).

I have Leon Washington (in a ST heavy format)

who I think will get 1000k in both rushing and recieving. He seems to have the best rhythm with Sanchez other than Keller. If I was a Jets fan (I’m not) my name would be Kerry is better than Ed, we know where I got that from.

Washington

I also have him. I got him late and is one of my many sleeper picks, along with McFadden, Ray Rice (sorta), and Kenny Britt.

Nice picks

But, I gotta disagree with you with two things:
1- Darren Sproles. He’s great and all, but like you said: it’s the Raven’s D. You can’t assume that because they’re “aging” that they’ll sit back, relax, and do absolutely nothing. They’ll plan their game around him and Rivers. I had Sproles, but dropped him for that reason alone. If he beasts, my loss. But, I’m not counting on that happening.

2- DeSean Jackson is too much of a monster to not be a factor in the game. He had only, what, 2 receptions last game? So, you know he’s hungry for more balls being thrown his way. Him, Westy, and the Eagles’ D will be the eventual difference makers. One of them, or maybe all of them, will make a clutch play, and turn the entire game around. I’m looking at DeSean, and I’m seeing 6-8 reception, 100+ yards, and a TD.

And, you might as well add this guy: Lee Evans. Start him. The Bills just came off of one HELL of a performance, and the Bucs showed last week that their secondary is garbage. Miles fucking Austin made them look bad. This will be Evans’ breakout game.

My sleepers are between two players: Justin Gage and Brent Celek (again). Gage had an excellent performance at the Steelers, so expect him to put up bigger numbers against the Texans. And Celek…well, I’m not too sure, but from what I remember a few preseasons ago, Celek was Kolb’s go to guy. And, he had more Fantasy points than Owen Daniels.

I had to learn that the hard way….

Brent Celek

yes, I agree Celek could have a HUGE game with Kolb. But I also think Curtis may too. But both have great shots.

BTW

I’m starting Cadillac Williams. I want him to be one of those success stories.

And I want him to run all over the Bills.

by LegendKnight22 on Sep 20, 2009 12:10 AM EDT reply actions

Actually

Help me out here. Should I start Williams? Or should I go for McCoy and hope he gets his shares against the Saints?

by LegendKnight22 on Sep 20, 2009 12:11 AM EDT up reply actions

Go williams. The guy is a man on a mission and has a higher probability at success in the fantasy department than shady.

...Lol, Brees defintely

Doesn’t matter if he’s going against our D or the Steelers’ D, Drew Brees is a monster.

I’m confused, the Texans arn’t playing against the steelers in week two. The Steelers play the Bears. I don’t know who the Texans play, but it sure isn’t the Steelers.
