The Linc - Power of positive thought

Despite Code, McNabb Shouldn't Play Though Pain
The code is the unwritten, but fully understood, football ethic that says players play through pain. It is accepted and even celebrated as part of the macho toughness that defines the men who play in the National Football League.

Mentors to Eagles backup QB Kolb think positive | Philadelphia Daily News | 09/16/2009
IF DONOVAN McNabb's broken rib hurts badly enough, Kevin Kolb's coming-out party will be Sunday. Or, his burial as a Bird will be Sunday.

With all the roster shuffling and injuries in the last few days, we thought we would take a look at the current list of the 53-man roster by position.

Confirmed: Front lawn of McKelvin's home vandalized - Buffalo Rumblings
The front lawn of Buffalo Bills CB Leodis McKelvin's Buffalo-area home was vandalized after his game-changing fumble on Monday Night Football. Since Buffalo fans didn't throw a snowball at Santa Claus a hundred years ago I'm sure this stigma won't stick with them.

More after the jump on McNabb, Kolb, Max Jean-Gilles, and the Saints' evaluation of the Eagles' QBs.

As starter, Eagles QB Kolb has to be good | Philadelphia Inquirer | 09/15/2009
Phil Sheridan discusses the pressure Kevin Kolb faces this weekend if he gets the start.

Sore McNabb a 'Long shot' to Play vs. Saints
Monday evening on his weekly radio show on 610 WIP-AM, head coach Andy Reid said McNabb is a "long shot" to play.

New Orleans Saints won't complain if Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb sits out - NOLA.com
"That's going to probably be the biggest difference, just the fact that McNabb is a guy that can scramble a little bit better than Kolb can. Kolb's a guy that probably will sit in the pocket and probably still has a good enough arm to make all of the throws necessary for that offense. "You would expect them to utilize more of their other weapons if Kolb's in the game so they take a little bit of pressure off of him. But I'm not calling their game plan for them. I'm just saying that as far as the mobility aspect, McNabb is a little more mobile than Kolb is."

RE: That soon to be forgotten incident in Buffalo

Seems like everyone has already been forgotten what Arizona residents did to McRibb’s house last year. That santa thing never does go away though.

I wonder if the guys In Buffalo left their address

Donovan is damned either way.

If he plays, it’s because he’s threatened by Kolb/Vick/Garcia (take your pick). If he sits, it’s because he’s a wimp. If he struggles and they lose, he’s selfish AND threatened. If they win, it’s because of the Saints unspeakable pass defense and they didn’t need him anyway and he only played because he’s threatened. If he plays well but they lose a shootout (which would be entirely possible even if he were healthy), he was a distraction.

Shame on the Media

Alls Donovan McNabb’s been his entire NFL career is a model professional athlete who continues to prove he’s a winner year in a year out. He’s a likable guy and generally says all the right things, but he’s always under fire for some reason. Fuck you media for giving the guy soo much shit for no reason.

yeah

i’ve noticed the same thing. tim hasselbeck was so eager to talk about how any defender can just light up mcnabb in the wildcat formation. but he doesn’t say that about any other QB that lines up out wide. WHYYYY? why do people hate on mcnabb? i feel so bad for the guy. most underappreciated athelete in the USA?

ridiculous

Yeah, and just think how much better of a role model he is than the majority of other professional athletes and he is still constantly disrespected. Wake up media! You should like AND appreciate this guy!

They know one guy and they don’t know the other. No shock there.

Yep

and unfortunately, WE don’t really know much about Kolb either. I sincerely hope he tears up that Swiss cheese the Saints call a defense on Sunday and everything is aces, but I also can’t sit here and say I have full confidence in him – honestly, has he ever done ANYTHING to make you believe he’s a special (or even above-average) QB? Something that makes you sit up out of your chair and say “WOW”. I know we don’t see the mini-camps, OTAs, etc, but to me, he’s never shown any sort of ability that makes me believe he can be a good NFL QB. But hey, go ahead and prove me wrong, Kevin. I’ll gladly eat crow for a Birds victory…

By their third season an NFL QB is usually

mature enough to tell if he’s any good (with a few exceptions, notably Steve Young). With Kolb this is time to fish or cut bait. Hopefully the fishing is good.

A Bills fan does something stupid, it’s an isolated incident, but all Eagles fans are evil bastards, right?

whoa…havnt posted here in months. anyway, on Kolb:

this is the week the kid gloves come off on this young man. In the past we have all excused his less than satisfactory play on the grounds that he had no idea he was going in, he had no practice with the first team offense, he was playing against the Ravens defense, etc. all of these are legit reasons for Kolb not lighting up opposing defenses, however none of them apply this week.

He is now in his third year in the offense meaning he should know the playbook as well as anyone. He has known for a week that he will be starting and he will get a full week of practice with the first team offense. He’s going up against a defense that while shouldnt be taken for granted, can be scored upon. Thats not to say I expect him to go out and throw for 400 yards and 5 TD’s, but it’s time for him to show us why he was taken in the second round. Once again, Im not expecting Kolb to put on a show, but I think it’s time for him to man up and atleast do something positive, as there are no excuses this time.

I agree

The Saints defense is suspect (if it was even marginal they’d be a year in year out Super Bowl pick) and Kolb has no conceivable excuse if he chokes. I’m hoping he steps up. It’d be nice to get the W, and it would be nice to know we didn’t waste a pretty good draft pick.

McNabb, Garcia, Vick as mentors

Kolb has 3 prowbowlers to learn from- he doesnt have an excuse now
