I know im new here and i dont have the right to judge or complain about anything, but ive been watching this site since it started. It seems to me that everyone on this site is always fixated on grammar errors, pointing out how stupid a fanpost/shot is, and just mocking "rookie" members. I always thought that this was a place for Eagle fans to gather and show their love for the birds not an "learn how to spell, and write" site. It might just be that thinks it, it might not, but i dont think its right.

but i feel like a decent amount of the criticism is directed towards people who like to join the site just so they can post things like “we’re getting boldin”, “Reid, and Lurie and cheap”, and “Vick needs to be castrated in a very public setting”…it’s annoying when people come on here just to go on some holier than thou tirade, a rant about hatred for someone in the organization, or throw out nonsensical trade scenarios and such and then never post anything again. It’s a waste of everyone’s time and I’ve seen the harsh reaction as more of an encouragement for the person to bring value and insight to the table. There’es a couple people who still post that got trashed on their first fanpost, but came back with more mature, worthwhile statements.

I feel that if you just joining to discuss one subject, just join espn or yahoo chats. This is for all around issues for the Birds. I do believe everyone should contribute and are entitled to their opinions but I find it annoying when its blatantly obvious that someone is trying to start a spat war. All for conflict and debate but there are just things said to provoke name calling or annoyance…I understand your concerns but agree with Remis in that this post won’t solve it.

I know I’m not knit picking because I give a shit about anyone’s writing skills, its simply because it makes it hard to read. If you can’t take the time to make what you write actually readable, then you deserve to be called out for it.
This is an open, public forum, if you want people to read what you write, then take a few minutes and put some fucking effort into it.

Tons of times I put out a valid point- usually when Im excited about something and jerks just pick apart the post, its so lame. We are a bunch of guys talking about footabll, imagine were at a bar… in Philly… call a guy out for useing bad grammer in middle of a point and what happens…
Im a college grad with a great job, Im not ignorant to spelling and grammer rules but here as long as you get your point acrossed it shouldnt matter.

New to the Internet are you? This is by no means exclusive to BGN, the same goes for just about any forum (except maybe /b/).
If you are going to converse via typed word, you owe it to the people with whom you are communicating to be coherent. I am not saying you need to be Ernest Hemingway, just use sound grammar and syntax.

Some Self Policing is a good thing
New guys that are criticized often are making posts that should have just been comments in an active discussion already going on
BGN is the only Eagles blog I follow regularly because it seems to be a cut above most. Jason does a good job, but its also a community that seems to weed out the kids and 95% of the posts are usually intelligent and make a good point

Most of us put a lot of effort in to writing articles. So when we see some retard try to get a point across without having the common decency to install an automatic spellchecker of course were gonna get angry. We uphold a reputation here that we like to defend. Its just like when your completely nonathletic cousin is forced to play football with you in a pick up game, you just scream

I put pleanty of thought into what I write
if and when I miss spell and its called out you look like a snob- I dont do it to a point that you cant understand mayb a letter where it shouldnt be or somthing foolish.
This is never brought up with other team’s sites- and dont fire back and say go be with them
this buisness of calling people out for something off topic is petty
the name calling is weak too, I remember the agreement I made when I came here and as I remember it said this is a friendly enviroment where we can past our oppinions,
here at BGN a few new guys and some of you Vets come down too hard to too many people for rediculous reasons- yours doesnt semll like roses

It's not just about being able to understand what is said though.
Poorly written posts with little to no grammar and typos all over the place are simply hard to read. When something is that hard to read it slows people down and what should be a discussion turns into a puzzle-solving exercise.
You mentioned that it should be like a conversation at the bar. Good point. If someone at the bar kept talking for a couple minutes without ever pausing, without using inflection, and mumbling stuff, you would get annoyed. A post that lacks punctuation, grammar, and spelling is just like that. Everyone misspells words. It’s natural. That’s not a problem necessarily…until it’s combined with the other problems. Then it just becomes a chore to (try to) read.
I can understand
if it the posts were stocked with ebonics and the wrong use of word, even something without grammer I completly understand. However I have been ridiculed before for mis spelling a few words- what I do doesnt slow anything down, I accedently leave a letter out or put an extra letter in. I dont ramble forever with errors so bad the message doesnt get across.
I hate guys who come here and talk street all day, i can side with everyone there but- for those who just want to blog but mayb screw up a few words, let it go. I assure u, when I blog I use common sence and reason. I know the game of football better then some- I played until I was 21 and coached. I have a lot to offer to BGN, so for those who belittle others and shoot down fellow BGNr’s for minor spelling or grammer issues, get over yourselves

OK, if that's your main problem, I agree.
Misspelling something here and there is not a big deal. And it should be noted that since I replied to you with an actual post, and not a snarky comment, I obviously don’t think your writing is not that bad. I get annoyed when someone combines all those problems and refuses to correct them in the future. I think for some of the vets who are on here all the time that anger builds up and sometimes the person that gets the brunt of it doesn’t write that terribly.

only problem, I just feel as though some Vets need to get of thier horse and just talk about the topic being discussed. Thats who is slowing things down- (excluding the morons who just yell, curse and rant)
I appriciate how you handle yourself- it comes across a different way. how you react to something you disagree about should be an example to everyone. When you get tough guys belittleing others over the internet, things get messy on this blog.
Im going to try to watch my grammer simply because Im not proud of my short comings with typeing. Ihope some of the Vets can have a little more patience with those who do care about this site but still slip.

im talking about people needing to put a little bit of effort in to a post with out just typing whatever comes to mind and wasting someones time … would you read the daily news or inquire if every 3 words something was misspelled or made no sense because they just wrote as ideas popped in to their heads ? you may be able to get through the article and understand what they meant but their credibility of being somewhat intelligent is tarnished by their laziness to make their fan post more presentable … fin

fin was used because i was “finished” with my comment and i leave something funny at the end of my comments most of the time cause i like taking risks in life. If you happen to come across some of my comments, i usually throw in “hugs and kisses” followed by a “no homo” as well so don’t be alarmed.
I posted my original comment which judging by your reply assumes that i was only concerned with the misspelling of words. I then posted my reply to your comment to exercise the point that spelling is just one of the things we nag on people for here at BGN. BGN Nazis like myself, after praying to hitler for 2 hours facing south of the sun, like to call each other out when misspelling and constantly use the term Cobbd to heckle each other about it. Were busting peoples balls most of the time but when someone is constantly misspelling words and is trying to be taken seriously were gonna give him/her shit. Im sorry if you happen to be one of them because apparently my generalized comment (minus addressing the author of this fan post) had an invisible finger pointing directly at your name.
I made it clear that i wasn’t just addressing spelling in my second comment. It’s really annoying when someone like BDAWK writes a quality post that i miss on the line up because 5 cornholieos wanted to post the same headline or post a fan post instead of a fan shot because they had to make sure that everyone knew what was on their minds. If someone takes the common decency to proof read their fan post and make sure it doesn’t sound like a five year old wrote it then they have nothing to worry about. I might point out a word and say cobbd next to it to poke fun at them, but if they are not putting in enough effort to make their fan post presentable and intriguing then they deserve to be “booed” so to speak. You can ask NickPampani, we gave him shit all the time but he didn’t cry about it because he knows he slipped. Im not perfect i misspell on here often, but im not gonna cry when 700 level calls me a jackass because i didnt spell Eagles right.

You dont have to proof read in Microsoft word. I posted a link for a Firefox add on that spell checks as you type on screen. If you have internet explorer i will find it for you if you would like it.

UH oh i mizspelled a word. If someone is not smart enough to figure out how to spell then they should take the time to spellcheck it, that i agree on. I dont have a problem with spelling most words but my punctuation might not be up to par with you other english professors. If someone spells wrong or misses a comma or something BIG FUKIN DEAL!!!!!!!! Its not the end of the world. This is the reason why people think Eagles fans are jerkoffs is because theyre always lookin to bust someones balls in a low way.

It seems to me that the only people who have an issue with getting harassed are the ones who constanly ramble and who’s posts are uninteligible. This is just a football blog but you owe the people on here your best. How can you be taken seriously if you don’t perform due diligence and at least check your posts before throwing them out there? I have never gotten after a fellow BGNer for their spelling but I have called out a few posters that don’t take the time to check their work. Often times I simply skip over posts from certain people because of their past performances. Bottom line is that you should take a little bit of pride in what you write and what message you are trying to convey.

I have an issue but my posts arent uninteligable- as I said before I know a lot about this sport, and this team. My comments opinions are based off of common sence and knowledge. I love my Eagles so I love this site. There are times something exciting happens and I comment to a post and things are mis spelled and someone takes it upon themself, veers from the topic of the conversation along with the opinion I am trying to share to poke fun. I am guilty of being less then perfect but it is not ignorance or lazines. I think you are overgerneralizing

Bottomline, if you want to be taken seriously, take the time to edit your work (comment or fanpost).
And I’m not overgeneralizing. If you dont like being made fun of, change your behavior. It takes a matter of seconds (since you are on the internet) to lookup the spelling of a word. Use the preview button and proofread your work. This isn’t English class but you are talking to people who are taking time out of their day to view your opinions (many of whom are excellent writers). Show them some courtesy and put together a well thought out and written comment.

I’ll make this easy for you. IF YOU CANT TAKE THE TIME TO EDIT YOUR POST AND MAKE A EDUCATED COMMENT, DON’T BE MAD IF SOMEONE ATTACKS IT. JIBTA is a prime example of this. He doesnt care what people say about his spelling (or lack thereof). You on the other hand, are getting upset about it. Let it go and continue with your opinion. Don’t get upset unless you are willing to fix it.
Grammar and spelling are a part of writing. Whether you feel it matters or not, it is part of writing. That is what you are doing, writing.

I agree with you. Nickpampani and I are the worst at it. We GCobb everything.
But sometimes people go overboard with all the spell checking for everyone. Just enjoy the thoughts. Some of us are blogging on the fly. And just want to get the idea out ASAP. Sure spelling is important, but sometimes a good though has to be published before you lose that train of thought.
Please feel free to correct all my bad spelling, I didn’t have time to proofread. I’m writing comments while working.
