McNabb And this Weeks Game
OK so we all know about the injury this weekend and the unpunished late hit. We all know that the "cracked" rib is now "fully Broken." This could be good because as Big Red said, you dont want to injure something worse and with this injury it cant get worse "that suckers broken." this means that if McNabb plays he cant get injured more. so it comes down to how well he can play with the injury and how well we can protect him.
Lets start off with the injury. Bad yes can it get worse not likely. Furthermore He has played hurt before. Like Andy Reid said "McNabb has a linebackers mentality" he has played with injuries before and done it well. weather its his ribs, groin of leg he has played smart and well. The key is Smart though. He could sit there and use his legs to make time and make sure he wont take any unnecessary hits.
Now protection. I was overall very happy with hoe the line played together. Jason Peters played like he did two years ago and McNabb had PLENTY of time. and thats against the panthers Not the saints. the panthers are alot more aggressive and will put more pressure than the offensive oriented team like the saints.
That leads us into weather Kolb would cut it. if this was going to be a defensive game i would put some faith in Kolb but its not. The Saints score big, often and early and Kolb i do not trust to keep up. and since i dont feel McNabb will be rushed as much i would be pressed to take my chances with #5.
Now Andy Reid said Kolb will be practicing with the first team as they evaluate McNabb. This could go either way. this vary easily could be a ploy to throw the saints off but i tend to believe Reid knows that this will be a tough game and we need all the starters we can get. And then to add to that McNabbs toughness i feel we could atleast see McNabb playing a bit on sunday.
What are your thoughts?

I would rather have McNabb healthy for the rest of the season. You play him on Sunday and people will be out for him, he gets hit, his ribs get worse… we lose him for more than just one game. I think we should sit him for at least a game so he can heal. Don’t get me wrong, I would rather have McNabb in OBVIOUSLY but would you rather he get hurt worse and be out the rest of the season, relying on Kolb? Eh, not to rain on Kolbs parade but we have too many weapons and too good of a defense to not make the playoffs because our QB is out. We had an amazing offseason with the draft and trades, you dont want them going to waste.

His Rib Is BROKEN
Not much worse you can do than that. they will have it protected and he will play smart if it becomes an issue than sit him but dont think we can win without him.
And i have never hear of someone have a season ending broken rib.
sorry but the only thing that would happen is a prolonged healing and with the buy week we can have that chance

Hahaha I agree with Bye Dawk…. we can’t "afford " to loose any game unless we’re already heading to the playoffs and resting the starters. We need to win.
Gonna miss Dawk a WHOLE lot next year..

the point is, if you get McNabb hurt worse, he won’t be playing in any games (less games) and we’ll lose even more games!

Exactly. It’s not that we can afford to lose this game, it’s that we can’t “afford” to have McNabb hurting all season or lose him for all season.
It’s a long season and knowing our history, unless we are able to stay ahead of the pack and achieve a 12 win season, the 2nd half of the season is where we need to excel and catch fire.

how are you going to hurt a broken rib worse?
it will only prolong the healing and that we can afford.

you dont want it to break off and puncture anything (god forbid a lung)
which can actually threaten one’s life

bones heal relatively quick so its not like a rib floating around there. and dont you think he would have the appropriate amount of padding there to help protect.
and by the way i know all about punctured lungs. a very close friend of mine had a terrible car accident and broke 5 ribs and punctured both lungs. its bad but rarely deadly when you have a highly trained and paid medical staff waiting right there.
its not like im saying its worth the risk of a punctured lung but the medical staff wouldnt allow him to play if there was that risk. there are laws to prevent that.

Yea did you guys even read what was said?
His rib is BROKEN. Nothing worse can come out of it. He could hurt other ribs, but thats the same as everywhere when one nasty hit and you hurt. It has nothing to do with the fact that he already has a broken rib. If he can play through it, I want him to. Show the world your taking this season seriously and man up if you can.
Think of this like that one play in the Panthers game. We can let Kolb start and theres more potential for us to lose. But why not throw in our starter to show me mean business and want to win every game. This of course is assuming Mcnabb feels like he can play through the pain.

Broken ribs CAN get worse
From The Mayo Clinic
Many broken ribs are merely cracked. While still painful, cracked ribs aren’t as potentially dangerous as ribs that have been broken into two or more pieces. In these situations, a jagged piece of bone could damage major blood vessels or internal organs.
Also, Whenever you favor an injury, you open yourself up to other injuries. Trying to protect them when going down, he could damage a wrist, elbow, or shoulder. Changing his throwing motion to compensate for discomfort could damage ligaments.
Sit himn for the next two game sand start him fresh after the bye.

This is all about McNabb's pain tolerance
And I’ll bet anything he wants to play and tries to play this week. The question becomes does Big Red take the long view and hold him out.
I hate to play it too safe because I’d love to beat the Saints (not to mention conference wins are a key tiebreaker in the playoff chase), but I think the sitting him the next few weeks and having him 100% when the schedule gets really brutal midseason is wise.
Plus we should be riding high from Week 1. I’d love to see another game like Sunday’s on defense and special teams.

McNabb Plays
A flack jacket and a syringe full of novocaine and he’ll be as right as rain.
