Game Balls!

There's gonna be a lot of them, so hang in there...

Star-divide

Sean McDermott - (clapping) Well done, sir.

Winston Justice - Really kept an eye on him for most of the game, and he was great.  Whether or not #73 is "ready" next week, Justice earned another start in my opinion.

Jason Peters - 2 early false starts, and then he really settled in nicely.  He's a beast in the run game.

Trent Cole - How does this guy routinely get overlooked when people talk about the best DE's in the game.  He's the best player on this defense, period.

DeSean Jackson - So fast, so verstile.  His punt return turned the game around.

Jake Delhomme - Thanks, buddy.

Akeem Jordan - Outstanding play on the screen he intercepted, and he was around the ball all day.  I really like this kid.

Darren Howard - I had written him off before last season, then he goes out and puts up 10 sacks.  He then got the season off to a nice start with 2.

Donny Mac - The Panthers dominated the time of possession, so we actually didn't see much of him, but he was sharp.

Sheldon Brown - Great catch on the first pick, veteran savvy jumping the route on the second one.  Elite corner in this league - His preseason whining is forgiven.

Brent Celek - He led our receivers with... uh... 6 catches and 37 yards?  Really, that's it?  Oh well... Anyway, he's a bona fide red zone threat.  Like this kid a lot.

Macho Harris - Barely heard his name, and for a 5th round rookie starting in his pro debut, that's fine with me.

Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley - They bottle up the middle all day - Williams averaged 2.6 yards on 14 carries, and Stewart averaged 3.2 on 11 carries.  Can we get a nickname for these guys already?

Did I miss any?

He was the right tackle @ USC. Maybe he felt more at home there. Left tackle is the harder of the two they say.

Good post Bye Dawk...

but you did miss one. I think Asante Samuel had a GREAT game. Absolutely shut down Steve Smith.

Very true… Smith had 3 catches for 21 yards. Quintin Mikell was great in coverage all day too.

Bye, Big Stew and JJ :(

As did Macho

Im very impressed with his play. Should have had that pick 6 but overall great job from a rookie starting his first NFL game.

I saw a red zone play where Smith got blanketed by Ellis Hobbs… who saw that coming? 1 on 1, too!

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

I would say give Jake Delhomme a game ball, but I’m pretty sure he would just fumble it.

Jake Delhomme was our best player!

Fully agree… they were really good running the ball. If it wasn’t for Jake it would have been a ton closer, lol

he’d probably give it to sheldon instead

fuck all u justice haters .. i told u he was good and better than runyans old ass .. and who still thinks sheldon is not shut down? .. wow .. kolb will be fine next week ..but it will be a shoot out .. can kolb really throw 3 tds .. cuz brees will get his

by jack is better than asante on Sep 13, 2009 8:17 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

id say kolb will be fine

so long as Mr andy “i dont run the effing ball” reid can utilize his ground attack more. I mean Westy showed hes back in shape, McCoy looked REAL ggod, and weaver proved he can do more than block. So IF andy controls the clock by running it more, it cuts Brees’s time on the feild down and limits the potential fuck ups by a jittery first ever start Kolb.

You can’t say anything about the picks he had though. You said, “Picks don’t mean shit”, so you cannot say anything.

He did play really well. I thought he looked really fast, as did everyone on our defense.

well

that was ur only defense for asante .. that he got more picks .. cuz sheldon hashim beat in every other categorie .. and last time i checked asante droped pick 6 today .. easy one too .. sheldon would of took it to the house

Not me. You ain’t saying I said Asante was better than Brown. I said that Asante would have something to say about your decleration about that.

I don’t think they are similar players. Brown is a physical corner and Asante is a flashy finesse player. I don’t think you can really compare them.

sure

wernt u the one saying how much asante is better than sheldon .. im pretty sure me and whoodie were on the sheldon brown island .. cuz everyone was all over asantes nuts

Hopefully

The defense can get Kolb a TD or two for safe measure=)

I personally was never concerned with Justice because I thought a healthy Justice would be just as effective as a so-so Shawn Andrews. I hope Justice can turn that Giants game into a distant memory with another good game next week.

Good job, Winston!

I couldn’t believe the criticism Peters was getting in preseason, he is a complete monster and is going to be outstanding this season. also, the whole o-line looked excellent today

by eaglesinmd on Sep 13, 2009 8:26 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

He did get pooped on by Julius Peppers on a run play, but that was the only time you really saw Peppers do anything on that side all day. Pretty solid given he is one of the best in the league.

About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.

I think you're missing someone, Dawk

LeSean “Shady” McCoy. 9 carries for 46 yards, a 5.1 Avg. Ladies and gentlemen, this guy is the real deal. Rookie of the year, maybe.

BTW, for a guy that hasn’t played since January, Westy looked fantastic. 72 yards from scrimmage? Oh man, I can’t wait to see what he can do later in the year.

And as for McNabb, here’s hoping he plays this weekend, which I kinda do see him doing. This is the same guy that played on a BROKEN FUCKING FOOT, and beast’d.

Oh. I said this before, and I’ll say it again: I am NOT worried about our o-line. At all. Period.

NOTE: Does anyone know if MJG is okay?

by LegendKnight22 on Sep 13, 2009 8:29 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I liked what I saw out of McCoy and Westy, but those guys have plenty of game balls coming their way soon enough. Love Westy’s toughnes (#73 should take note), bt this wasn’t a big day for hi by any means.

Bye, Big Stew and JJ :(

by Bye, Dawk :( on Sep 13, 2009 8:33 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Shady really looked good out there. I thought that he was over hyped in the preseason. Lets hope he keeps this up.

by topcat6 on Sep 13, 2009 8:49 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

i love shady

but i think sanchez will get RotY, despite how much i hate him

by Manoovi on Sep 13, 2009 9:36 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I hope McCoy won’t be in the running for the rookie of the year. ROTY has to be a starter and huge contributor so that would mean Westy would have to be out for an extended period of time for McCoy to get it… Yeah I’d rather not have that happen… But I do like him.

It was great to see Andy and co trusted McCoy enough at the end of the game to take westy out completely. That didn’t used to happen very often. (but then again it couldve just been because it was a blowout).

by Smitty2K3 on Sep 13, 2009 11:17 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I think the 3-score lead aided in that decsiion, but it was good to see him get some meaningful reps, while spelling Westy.

Did you see the slo-mo replay

of the one run play he was out in front of Westbrook. He just effin’ mauled his dude 15 yards down the field.

The D-line was awesome today and seemed to be aided significantly by McDermott’s schemes. Jake made some bad throws but he was pressured all day.

today made jim johnson very proud

especially that 4th and goal stand in the final minute. I feel that will pay dividends as the season goes on.

Me too

someone disagreed on another thread, but I like how he basically from start to finish was not effing around. This was the damn Panthers too, it’s not like it was a bunch of scrubs on offense. Nice line, DAngelo & Stewart, Steve Smith … we handled business.

That said, QBs will have better games against us than Jake did. Given that Asante and Macho each dropped a pick (six?), dude could have easily thrown six INTs.

Cole and the gang (hey, I like the sound of that) was all up in Jake’s mug tho.

Was anybody else completely down after that first Panthers drive?

After that Parker penalty on third down I had this overwhelming feeling that the defense was undisciplined under Sean McDermott (i’m not saying that assumption was correct at all). For that single drive it really felt like it was gonna be a long year on the defensive side of the ball. The way they deflated after the penalty and pretty much bent and broke was just sickening. But the rest of the game they completely proved me wrong and I couldn’t have been happier (minus the injury to McNabb). I really loved the way McDermott ran this D. The stunt with Cole blitzing from the LB position made my day

by Q27 on Sep 14, 2009 12:28 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

I wouldn't say down ...

…. I’ve watched enough football to know not to read too much into the first drive, or quarter for that matter. But I was definitely digging in for what I thought was going to be a tough game, and then, blam … before I knew it, it was 24-7
