McNabb cracks rib in Eagles win
Andy Reid confirmed that Donovan McNabb cracked a rib on the play where he was hit pushing his way into the end zone for a TD. Andy did say that there was a "chance" McNabb could play next week. Most reports suggest that a cracked rib would keep the QB out of action for 2-3 weeks. That would mean that McNabb could be set to return after the bye in week 4.
A team source told the Inquirer that McNabb was "doubtful" for next Sunday's home opener against the Saints.
Kevin Kolb says he's ready to start if needed.
"This gives you a feel for the No. 1 defense in a game-time, regular season scenario," Kolb said. "It gives you a little bit of confidence and a sense of calmness. Hopefully, we can come out next week with 11 guys, rock and roll and put some points on the board.
"We have to rock and roll. There's no time to stagger."

wtf...
Yep. Kevin “Corn on the” Kolb should provide a seamless replacement for McNabb…
If he can’t shred New Orleans sucky D, then we’re doomed for the rest of the season until Vick can play (when is this exactly?) or McNabb gets healthy again (not sure when this will be).
Vick can play in week 3
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
Keep in mind that (assuming they remove him from whatever list he’s on), this will be Vick’s first week of practice. I’m guessing they’ll go Kolb in weeks 2 and 3 and there’s the bye, and hopefully McNabb is back then.
It’s Oakland and Tampa after the bye, so if this had to happen, it was the best time of the schedule for this to happen.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
I thought he was allowed to practice just not play?

No, he’s some some special list where he doesn’t count against the 53 man roster, but he can’t practice either.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
The Eagles can remove Vick from the exempt list
at any time and let him start practicing.
You can best believe someone is getting their walking papers and Vick will be active for practice Tuesday, even if Don thinks he can go.
Vick can play Week 3 against the Chiefs. Find it hard to believe you can call yourselves fans and not know this, it’s been covered way beyond its signficance :)

Your so corny
Some people don’t have time or they don’t care to read into all of these rules and regulations. Even on ESPN they said that Vick was able to play week 4.
Your new nickname is condescendingKeith.
Ugg, you haven’t read the entire NFL rule book? You are not a fan then!!!!
WTF is that? Chill out homie.
Riiiiight
Then only weak link today on this team was kevin k…….

Something tells me
McNabb will play. He is a warrior. He had a sports hernia in his chest during the 2005 season and still played through half of the season. It might take the worlds biggest flak jacket and a powerful set of cortisone shots…but I think he will.
i hope not....
if this is our yeat to go to the sb we need our star qb healthy. there is no point on rushing this injury. we got lucky with our bye coming early this year. gives him time to sit out and rest. kolb should play this next game and vick should play game 3. we’ll be fine.
"Never give in, never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.
Let's hope
Because the Lions did a pretty good job against the Saint’s D. I would think an injured McNabb could do better
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
No way, Kolb needs to start. Change the game plan a little and let Mcnabb heal.
It isn’t like our offense is like Green Bay’s O when Farve broke his ribs and continued to play. All he really did was hand it off to A.Green. You know that we throw all kinds of different crazy plays and all that. No way Mcnabb, with a broken rib, can play better. If Reid would change the play calls hge could but I don’t see that happening.
That was a guesstimate
from the first report. Probably based on how long broken ribs usually take to heal.
All the official reports I’ve seen just say Reid hasn’t ruled him out.
I think McNabb could play — in theory — if the injury wasn’t on his throwing side. But he might not be himself. We might have to run a lot to compensate.
If it weren’t the high-powered Saints, I’d actually be eager to determine if Kolb can play a full game with a full week of practice with the 1s under his belt. At least we can find out about his future ASAP.
I’m not ready to completely write him off yet, but he’s got to show something at some point …
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
Your right
We might need a lot of points and Kolb doesn’t look like he has the poise to produce them. This is something we have to deal with. Feeley ain’t better.
I don’t know about you but I think our D looks like they are a little—just a little— better than the Lions though. I think we could be fine without 5.
I'm kinda ticked that
instead of enjoying 38-10, we’ll all be worrying about McNabb’s rib.
I’d really love to see our D smother the Saints and make not matter who our QB is.
Still waiting for the Eagles to Bring It Home For Jerome
I hope you’re right, because I don’t think they can beat the Saints without him.
But, they might be cautious, thinking they can at worst split the next 2 games w/Kolb, giving McNabb would have a full 3 weeks to heal, rather than this lingering all season.
I wonder if I can bill Jeff Lurie and Peter Angelos for the years of therapy their teams are going to put me through.
I think the question I have is do I want a 75% mcnabb or a 100% Kolb against the Saints? I feel like it might be a shoot out and If Mcnabb cant put his usual zip on the ball then we might be seeing a diminished offense

It’s just week 2. Superbowls aren’t won in week 2. I’d rather roll the dice the next two weeks if it means McNabb comes back significantly healthier after the bye.
No, Superbowls aren’t won in week two, but Wildcard berths ARE.
If we drop two to the Saints and Chiefs because we have Kolb at the helm and then McNabb struggles down the line with his injury and the tough defenses we face later in the season… I’d honestly rather put him in and give us the best chance to win.
About 10 minutes ago, I was pondering my own existence. Then I decided that it didn't matter.
gonna call it now and will fully eat my words if i have to
Kolb beats the Chiefs. That is a win regardless who starts… not to mention a certain number 7 is available that week… and if nothing else is going to be used to cause all kinds of headaches for the D
The new Merril Hoge?
After the game I was flipping around between Fox, ESPN News, and the NFL Network, and this one jackass said something like:
“The fans in Philly are probably angry at McNabb for only getting 79 passing yards.”
Granted, I didnt catch the context of why he said that, but the look of disgust on his face, presumably towards Philly fans, told me enough.
I wish I knew who this douche rocket was. All I remember is that he was on a three man panel, and he was the turd on the right.
I know thats not much to go on, but if anyone heard that comment and knows who he is please tell me so I can add him to my list of “commentators that I despise.”

It's called journalistic laziness ...
… dudes who have no new ideas tend to repeat the same old stuff all the time.
Any dude who brings up Santa Claus or says Philly fans hate McNabb might as well be wearing a flashing “I don’t know what the fuck I’m talking about” neon sign.

Did anyone see the DirectTV commercial with tom arnold on it? It was supposed to be like a AA meeting with football fans and one was a Eagles fan and the eagles fan says “Im sad that I moved out of philly for my job, I miss throwing snowballs at santa” or something like that. Its just bad when thats all they have on the eagles fans is stuff from 40 years ago. I dont see anyone getting on Panthers fans cases about them booing Delhomme when he came out to start a drive.

Was it Tom Jackson on ESPN?
During the pre-game show he seemed to roll his eyes when something was mentioned about the Philadelphia fans are tough.

RUB SOME DIRT ON IT......
Kolb will never be the future QB……use AJ in the interim…….hey, didnt #5 play against the Cardinals and throw for three TDs WITH A BROKEN FOOT?
Run the ball till the real QB heals.
Kolb
This will be the best shot of Kolb’s career to show whether he can play or not. He won’t be coming in off the bench to fill in. It won’t be preseason… This will be his first chance to take a full week of practice as the starter, start an NFL game and play the whole thing. Never in his career has he had that chance.
There will be no excuses this time. This is his shot.

You hit the...
nail on the head brotha. He will have a game plan that is formed around what he does best. He will have all week to become comfortable with it. And he will have a chance to execute it. I think he does enough to win.
Considering that their top two pass rushers are suspended for drug violations, it probably won’t be as good as it could be. Though, last I checked, the league was working out something with the Saints where instead of the two DE’s being suspended at the same time, they could serve their suspensions consequtively. We’ll have to wait and see on that one.
Let the beasting begin.

i think that if mcnabb can’t go, then give kolb the start. it could be valuable experience for him against two teams we should beat. i know that the saints have a good offense, but today shouldn’t be the scale they are measured on. they put 45 up…on the lions. whoa…look out. no disrespect to the saints offense, but let’s not assume that they will have their way with our D, which looked stellar today
Call me crazy but....
I think Kolb does well enough for us to win next week. Im thinking 200+ yards a pair of TD’s and a INT or fumble. I know the Saints looked great on offense this week but they’re not dropping back every play and airing it out on us. They will have to be more balanced or Brees will be staring into the Philly sky all day. NO defense is not all that good either. So I think we can get up fast, push NO to pass more, so we can then blitz more. Ultimately I think our blitz beats out their passing attack.
Guys Kolb had to get thrown into the fire in his two spot appearances against Baltimore and Carolina two of the best defenses in the NFL easily. Now he gets a whole game plan built around him and can prepare for a week give the ball to Westbrook Mccoy. Let our running game that gashed a good defense this week have their way with a awful Saints defense 27 to the Lions?? Plus if our defense plays with the same intensity it did against Carolina (I’m betting it will be more first home game after JJ’s death our defense will be pumped) Then Kolb won’t have much to do just manage the game.
Matt Cassel was crap until he had a game plan built around him then he wins the same thing will happen here. We only need to get through two weeks at the most without Mcnabb we can beat the Saints but even if we don’t we will easily beat the Chiefs so 2-1 at the bye at worst with Mcnabb back after having a month off which is the longest amount of time he could be out 2-4 weeks.
We can and will do this fly eagles fly.
RIP Jim Johnson this super bowl season is for you.

Run run run run run
I’m with thebirdsrtheword here. I want to see us kick it old school this week. Put Kolb in there, have Westy, Shady, and Weaver pound that soft middle, and work the play action and the 5 step drop whenever possible. Their defense is bad, and we can control the clock if we commit to the run. And our wideouts will gash them on the slants and make them pay if they jam us. Also, split Celek out wide and go to him, Avant, and Weaver on check downs.
If we lose this week, its not good, but I’d rather see Kolb get a big test in a big game now. Week three then can be “the battle to see who is #2” if Kolb plays poorly—I think everyone knows that Vick needs some game action before we declare him the “true #2” in game 3. And we can beat KC with a 2 headed QB monster in week 3 if we have to.
We could go into week 5 with a 2 and 1 record and 2 easy wins thereafter. That would be okay.
