Please help me understand
A lot of posters on this site are pretty smart. I like to use these people and steal their knowledge.
This is what I need: Please explain what is actually wrong with Sean Shawn Andrews back. For real, I don't know what is actually(specifically) wrong with it. I would like to see what it is and then go look for other people with the same problem. If like 10 other lineman have had the same problem and continued to produce after the injury then I will be a little pissed. If this is a serious injury, and other people don't normally come back from injuries like his, then I will calm down.
Has anyone else thought about this angle? I don't really have a lot of time to look up this stuff. I have a huge test on Monday, so Sunday is gone because of the game. For this reason, I have to study, and not look at Shawn's injury.
Can someone do this? Thanks

The original issue was a herniated disc suffered by Andrews back in his Arkansas days. He was given an injection to the area that masked the pain for several years, but something must have aggravated it past the point of recovery. He underwent surgery for the disc last October, but as I’m sure you know his back tightened up on him throughout training camp, and even to this day. Tough to call this one, maybe a misdiagnosis or a botched surgery?
I basically paraphrased the links below, so check them out for more details.

Burkholder said Andrews suffered a disc herniation in high school in Arkansas, which didn’t bother him after he took a pain-blocking injection. Burkholder said Andrews played through college and his early pro career with the problem, but aggravated it when double-teamed on an extra point against Dallas in Week 2.

Great, thanks.
I am going to look around and see what I can find on other athletes that have had this same problem.

it depends
from what i know of back injuries in general, (not just with athletes), a lot of the problems can be mental. placebos tend to work pretty well. they can resolve themselves over time, but generally they persist for awhile, for either physical or mental reasons. hopefully justice can hold up for awhile. in any case, the O-Line should be better than the steelers’

True
Back Injuries are one of the most common injuries in the (non-NFL) workplace, and can present a huge problem with determining whether or not the injury is legitimate. Pain is subjective (to a degree) and if someone says their back hurts, a doctor cannot dismiss that just because nothing appears on x-rays.
So we have to take Shawn on his word and hope he heals – whether its mentally or physically.
But since this is a business whose goal is to win a ring, I hope the Eagles won’t wait too long…

Its Simple
Andrews doesnt want to play yet still wants to get his check. And like a lot of other lazy people has found the perfect way to accomplish this feat .

Don't be so quick to judge.
You might feel differently if you have ever had a back injury. Chronic back problems can literally make your life a nightmare.

I call them as I see them
While its true ive never had back problems,I have been around someone who has and when his back was acting up it was all he could do just to get out of bed let alone make a rap vidio , dance ,or even just joke around. Last year it was the depression, this year its the back. Looks to me like he just doesnt want to play.

I almost agree
With southjersey89 but Sean’s doctor or whatever out in California said it was muscle damage which would lead me to believe that it is 1 of the 4 muscles around the spine. The iliocostalis, the longissimus, the spinalis, or the semispinalis. If it is the semispinalis then we might not see anymore of Shawn for the next few weeks since the semispinalis is deep to the first 3 erector spinae muscles I named. I injured my semispinalis and was out for a year and a half. If doesn’t sound like it is semispinalis damage since apparently he was able to engage in a contact practice, but injury to any either the semispinalis or the erector spinae muscles can have lasting damage. He says its flaring up so its sounds like he can’t reduce the swelling around the thoracic (mid back) area. The semispinalis extends the back but when only 1 of the semispinalis’ is used it helps rotate toward the opposite side. But I’m playing all that by ear since I have only read reports and judged what has be said. Hope that provides some insight.

first it was a herniated disc, then it was back spasms during camp, and now it’s been called inflammation in his back
