Training Camp Report: Jackson Dominates; Maclin Attends
In another Training Camp Report, the most exciting and captivating headlines from 2009 Eagles Training Camp are listed for you:
- WR Jeremy Maclin was a participant in Training Camp for the first time today after agreeing to a long-awaited contract two nights ago. The rookie (pictured) caught a few passes in warm-up drills (which drew a loud ovation from the crowd), and also took reps as the punt returner.
- WR DeSean Jackson was wearing out the defense all day. After playfully "trash talking" with CB Asante Samuel, the 2008 rookie sensation caught a beautiful 50+ yard TD, and also hauled in several other passes for decent yardage gains. He has clearly been the star receiver of Camp.
- Despite the team granting players of 30 years and older the morning practice off, QB A.J. Feeley and TE Matt Schobel decided to attend. Feeley worked with the 3rd string group, and although he wasn't brilliant while passing, he certainly improved from his previous Camp performances, which seemingly always included interceptions and incompletions.
- On a trick play, RB LeSean McCoy completed a pass to WR Hank Baskett for a minimal gain. Perhaps we will be witness to trickery like such in the regular season.
- Jason Babin, one of the Eagles' most recent additions, lined up as a DE, and wasted no time exploiting his agressiveness. On quite a few plays, he was able to race past the blocking lineman (including Chris Patrick on several occassions), and although it was intially expected he was going to battle for a LB spot, it now appears that the former Texan's draft choice will be fighting for a DE job.
- QB Kevin Kolb, taking reps with the 2nd string team, appeared very poised and confident in the throws he made, including a 10-yard completion to WR Jason Avant. He will likely man the backup job for the 2nd season in a row, ahead of fellow Quarterback A.J. Feeley.
- Rookie LB Moise Fokou found some great opportunities on the field, and seemed to be around the ball almost every play he was practicing. Fokou totaled at least 5 tackles and was also able to drop Lorenzo Booker for a 5-yard loss.
As always, more updates and reports surfacing from Training Camp will be posted as soon as possible.

I like Babin...
he and Darren howard are built the same. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Howard get cut in favor of Babin. Howard’s 33. You know how much Reid hates older players.
I dont see Howard getting cut this year
he is too versitile.. He can play both ends and DT. Babin is a 1st round bust but still has potential to surprise us…
I see McCoy as a threat to westy on a side note. McCoy has been doing absolutely amazing from what I have heard. Honestly havent heard of him making any mistakes(but im sure there were/are some) but If westy goes down early I have faith in McCoy. Plus he has been able to pickup the whole blitz pickup thing alot better than all the others, even weaver our stud FB… Could be something amazing here.
Well to further prove my argument.....
According to PE.com, Howard is listed at 6’3" 260. Babin is 6’3" 267 and they both play a similar style. Remember when Trotter got cut? No one saw that coming. Granted, there were far less media outlets then there are now. Howard’s going to be 33 in November, not 33 already. Babin’s 29.

We can keep them both, Babin's
a little overhyped after 1 day of practice(s).. He was a 1st round pick I understand and he may still have the ability to play like one but the fact is that he’s a bit of a bust, Howard has proven production and has done it for 3 years now… I dont see why we cant cut Parker and keep them both.
Babin doesnt play DT, you cant just throw him in there, there is a big difference between DT and DE, DT is way harder.
I think people make too much of 30+ players getting released. I can’t think of a player off the top of my head that Reid has let go who was over 30 that was successful with their next team.

well people dwell on the 30+ thing
McNabbs still here
Westy is still here.
We use them till there no good then we release them so Yeah we let go of alot of Older players because there no longer good enough.
I agree with you it just seems like people think a players future is decided with this team when he hits 30 and I disagree with that.

Babin I think will be a valued player come start of the regular season. He was hidden in Houston ( I mean no one watches the Texans ), and now under the spotlight, Babin can show his skill. I’m not saying he will go out and put up 8-9 sacks, but he could provide a solid pass rusher, going for 5-6 sacks, and a couple forced fumbles.

Why?
He hasn’t done much of anything for three different teams. The Texans have been mediocre at best and the Seahawks and Chiefs were terrible last year, but Willis and Asomugh (sp) managed to shine while playing on bad defenses in San Francisco and Oakland. It’s not like the Texans are such a defensive juggernaut that they can afford to boot 29-year-old former first round picks. The Chiefs ranked 32 in sacks last year; Darren Howard has as many sacks as the entire Chiefs defense. Babin wouldn’t be the first guy to resurrect his career in a new city, but expecting him to be any more than a backup is a stretch at best.

I agree
I still think VA will caom in a take his starting job, and if Babin can step it up and start to shine like he was supposed to, and still hasn’t (6 sacks would be great with me) and Clemmons Pulls that too, our Left side would be nasty.

look at the teams he played for they are called teams for a reason...
babin has not had a real team to help him be the player he can be. We all know that one man cannot do it all. when you have weak links in your line offensive or defensive it enables other guys to help pick up blocks on the playmaker paositions. This is what has happened to Babin. The Texans had little to no D strting out and still are suspect this year. I think they will make the playoffs this year but atill need help. Seattle and Kansas City… come on now there is no help for him there either. Philly fans are in for asurprise with Babin and he is a great guy that fits into Philly’s style on and off the field. PHILLY FANs The Great Babino has arrived!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope he is good
but through 3 teams he doesnt have a good track record no matter what excuse you/he uses… He could still have played very well, look at all the defensive studs who play on shitty teams…
KC
Had Jared Allen
He had a shitty team and shined.
Granted I want Babin to be a stud!

Why does everyone think Babin will come in and shine?
He’ll be lucky to get a roster spot.
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!
Yup
Hope springs eternal.
Not like it hasn’t happened before…. We want every player in camp to play to thier potential.
Babin, had lots of it.
He has a great team behind him and he gets his hand back in the dirt where he excelled years before.
We hope he becomes a stud.
We are on the same page, a lot.

lol
I said that a few days ago(about us being on the same page)… You’ve gotta be my age or something lol.
Justice
Winston Justice hasn’t been dominant in Camp, but he’s certainly looked better than expected. Many thought this would be his last Camp as an Eagle, and while that’s still a valid possibility, it’s likely he’ll remain on the team until preseason, where he’ll battle for a backup o-line spot.
Cody Benjamin
“Better than expected” in this case only means he didn’t trip over his own dick in the shower.

He would have to have one first
after that horrible start he had against Osi I still question his manhood.
